  1. Asbury you make a number of good points . Your neighbour must be flush ,it's not cheap to have a dropped kerb done .Though probably enhances value of property and avoid any future CPZ charges . It's my understanding ( happy to be corrected ) that people can park across a dropped curbif they have the permission of the hoseholder . "Driveways that serve a single property If there's no enforceable yellow line, you can park close to this type of driveway without penalty. We only enforce if the occupier of the property makes a specific request. If you're having problems with vehicles obstructing your driveway, you can request free dropped kerb enforcement by contacting [email protected]. You can also call 0207 708 8610 or 020 7708 8587. Our hours of removal operations are 08.30 to 18.30 Monday to Saturday (subject to change). Outside these times, we may dispatch mobile patrol units to issue the PCN."http://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/guide-to-parking/dropped-kerbs-and-driveways?chapter=3 and http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/18/section/86 It looks as though Southwarks plan to put yellow lines either side of any new dropped kerbs has been ....dropped . Anyone know for sure ?
  2. what Broco said -)
  3. The Nat West in Peckham has this facilty .
  4. Qwik Print in Maxted Rd are very helpful and nice .Might be worth asking them ? http://quick-print.org.uk/
  5. Indoors .If outside store locked to something secure in a generic or custum made shed .
  6. Hazel I've found with searching records that people don't show up on the 1939 register .Maybe people consciously avoided being recorded ? On a seperate note although any help might also benefit Hazel - can anyone give advice on searching old copies of the electoral roll ? Digitally there seems no central records from about 1932 onwards .Is it they are regionalised so one has to search under specific parliamentary areas /geographic regions ? London seems to be fairly well recorded but other areas less so .
  7. My son used them for his um is it called tower ? computer .They were very good .And helpful .And local .
  8. Yes ,that's my experience ,Especially during school holidays .It's one of the reasons I use Modern Computers in the OKR .
  9. "He is blocking the road, off street parking." do you mean he puts bins in the road thus blocking access to off street parking ?
  10. Good point ianr .There's normally something about painting the exterior ,window frames etc .
  11. I've used Modern Computers on OKR and Net Quest . I prefer Modern Computers - they repaired a laptop which Net Quest couldn't help with and are open normal hours . I agree though that Christian is lovely .And helpful .
  12. It's the most temperamental I know .Drives me crazy.
  13. bagpuss - I know this is not the point of your post ,so please forgive me but I feel the need to understand "Also bring a teacher their cover stations or rather shoutastations are really annoying to hear." what does it mean ? And you truly have my sympathy - teaching is ,in my book ,a horrendous job .It's the end of term ,you have a two year old and you live cheek by jowl in this crowded area . The usual advice is ,as I'm sure you know ,to have a word with the neighbours .

  15. PR to St Pancras .And allow LOTS of time to walk what feels like half a mile to actually board the train .
  16. Bloody hell is that where the noise was coming from .I thought it was the nursing home near me who sometimes have events in their back garden .In Barry Rd .
  17. Decathalon tents are very good - pop along to Surrey Quays and have a look .
  18. "I think the difference is that it is possible for a well-controlled polite six-year-old to cycle on the pavement without causing any distress to others," I don't think you're getting the anxiety felt by an older /less mobile /more vulnerable when they suddenly become aware of an approaching cyclist . Do you think that older person has ESP and thinks to themselves " oh ,hang on a minute ,no need to worry, that 6 ye\r old approaching is the one in a million who is well trained ,in control of themself and not going to cause me any worries "?
  19. Mmm while I feel your pain it's not that often we have weather warm enough to encourage sitting outside . And there is of course the argument that it's ok for a group of people to be enjoying themselves even though their actions cause distress to others ( see 6 year old cycling on pavement thread ) . I guess it's the flip side of living in a city where we are often in close proximity to others .
  20. But it's not just young children that should be able to enjoy themselves . Many people have some infirmity ( mobility ,sight ,hearing ) that makes sharing a pavement with a cyclist at the least a major source of anxiety and at worst a danger .
  21. " most of these conflicts won't be conflicts with a little courtesy and common sense on both sides." that would work if all things were equal eg age ,health ,faculties ,intellectual grasp . Young children often lack the maturity, awareness and insight necessary to appreciate the impact of their actions on more vulnerable people . And because pavements are generally not wide enough to allow parents to be beside a child on a bike or scooter it is often the case that the child encounters an impediment in the form of a pedestrian ahead of the accompanying adult . And while I am NOT suggesting that this was the case here I also believe that young children ( and many adults ) think they've done the right thing by saying "excuse me " and expecting the person to move aside while they proceed rather than stopping and waiting for a response . It's very tempting to carry on when on a bike as pausing means loss of balance and all impetus .
  22. Rendle I take your point and my description was sloppy .My mother didn't walk along the cycle way or use it as an extension of the pavement but she did walk across it when crossing the road . She was always anxious that she wouldn't be able to see or hear a bike fast enough to give way to them .Possibly she should have walked back to the corner of Hanover and crossed at the lights at Primark . But no one else does . And unfortunately not all cyclists stick to the bike way but veer off on to the pavement to overtake/undertake . Edited to say that my mum was well aware of the bike way ( or whatever it's called ) as I discussed with her my concerns and my response reflecting them to the consultation that proceeded it's introduction .I also raised the matter on here but no one seemed concerned and JB was in favour as was the cycle group ( a formal association ,local ,can't remember name ) . All my family have cycled since toddlerhood, parents ,aunts and uncles riding tandems to Brighton and I used to love cycling . Sadly I don't think London's roads are very suitable for use by large numbers of cyclists .
  23. That's a lovely cheery post Beulah . If my mum were still alive I'm sure she'd have appreciated your joy de vivre . Or possibly her poor sight and hearing and limited mobilty might have tempered her appreciation . Oh and the fact that she was terrified of being knocked over by someone on a scooter or bike .Especially on the shared pedestrian bike way in Rye Lane . What's wrong with walking to school ?
