Just out of interest re infected wound on 95 year old lady
intexasatthe moment replied to Delainie's topic in The Lounge
Whenever I've made a complaint about care that has also been my fear but I can honestly say that the response has always been effective . You have a very clear case to put - this was said ,this was asked ,this was the response . " he said he was worried about wound, I asked why, he said because it's infected, did that mean he knew from Monday and this was Friday, he also asked if it was a house or flat and if she owned it or was it council. He said she should go into a home." " I was told when he gets back to clinic he would request antibiotics from GP. Told it would not be till 4 today,I called clinic to check at 4.30 as didn't want her left all over weekend, he said he can't do request now till Monday as he has other clients to see." Write it down and ask what the procedure should be where infection is suspected and it is thought antibiotics are needed . Say you do not feel the situation was correctly dealt with and you would like to know what procedures are in place to prevent this happening again . And I understand about not wanting to go and see a GP or go to hospital . I rather feel I'll be the same . -

Yes ,I've had trouble with some of the nurses or health care assistants from Townley Rd .A complaint did improve matters .The comments you report are appalling . There's an assesment unit for elderly at Kings .It can be very good if you are seen by one of the good doctors/consultants and can be very bad if you are unlucky and allocated a doctor who is just passing through as part of training and doesn't want to be there . They look at the person as a whole ( ie don't just concentrate on the UTI but would check other things and review meds ) and it might be worth seeing if the GP would refer. The unit https://www.kch.nhs.uk/service/a-z/clinical-gerontology could refer her to their falls clinic - my mum went for a bit and they do supervised exercises in small groups to improve/retain mobility and balance . As for drinking more fluid ......all you can do is try and find out what she likes and make sure it's available and to hand . Would using a straw help ? A flask of tea ? Or a thermal mug to keep it warm ? Milk and honey ?Warer with lemon or a lime slice added? Or a slice of cucumber? Cold ? room temp ? Frozen lollies ? And explain re the connection dehydration /UTI /mental fog and that she should regard drinking liquid as taking medicine to prevent an illness ? I hope things improve .Good luck with the complaint . -

I think you need to make a formal complaint re treatment . I'm really no longer sure who manages district nurses . But I imagine the GP surgery would tell you . -
A general thread to discuss Trump

It's being described as unusual http://www.azfamily.com/story/34380443/trump-breaks-precedent-files-on-first-day-as-candidate-for-re-election " According to campaign filings with the Federal Election Commission, Trump?s filing as a candidate comes more than two years earlier in his term than any incumbent presidential candidate in at least 38 years." 47 months- Donald Trump filed on Jan. 20, 2017 for the 2020 election. 19 months- Barack Obama filed on April 4, 2011 for his 2012 re-election bid. 18 months- George W. Bush filed on May 16, 2003 to run for re-election in 2004. 19 months- Bill Clinton filed on April 14, 1995 for his 1996 re-election campaign. 12 months- George H.W. Bush cut it even closer, not filing until Oct. 11, 1991 for the 1992 election. 12 months- Reagan had similarly close timing, filing on October 17, 1983 to run in 1984. -

That's interesting to read Sue ,thanks for posting . FWIW ( not much -) ) I don't buy the conspiracy theory bit that Trump is trying to distract us .The media is too fast and too all over everything .I hope . I do agree with seabag about sabre rattling . A lot of people who voted for Trump will love his "strength" . And I absolutely agree that "The immigration ban may be more viscerally upsetting, but the other moves are potentially far more dangerous." eg "that the DHS felt they could ignore a federal court than that Trump signed an EO blocking green card holders in the first place. It is a much bigger deal that Trump removed a permanent military presence from the NSC" and that the AG was removed . I do wonder if Trump is trying to provoke - demonstrations so that he can bring in controls to limit public gatherings ,other countries sothat he can impose /justify ever tighter anti terrorist ( what he'd describe as ) actions . -

So stalemate ? Somehow doesn't seem a very satisfactory /grown up response . But I guess it's all they have and I'm glad of it .Shows some effort to reign Trump in . -

I was /am genuinely interested in views re Trump sacking the AG . It seems to me the action of a dictator but I'm not sure if I'm over reacting a little . I'm not familar with American politics . I hadn't realised that the other threads were discussing issues not indicated in their title . Actually ,having had a look at one about petitions many of the posts just seem to be personal banter/point scoring between posters rather than discussion about Trumps actions .But thinking about it - I guess this forum is more about that ( banter etc ) and I take Admins point that there are plenty of "news" sites that I can read if I want to read about Trump and people's comments on his actions . -

Bit of an overreaction ???? ? I guess you could just not bother to read it if you found it so boring ? I've not read the other 2 threads on here about Trump as I thought from their titles they were concentrating on his visit to Uk . I'm sure Admin can lock mine if it's a duplication . -
Sally Yates in her confirmation hearing as Deputy Attorney General being questioned by Jeff Sessions . http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/31/politics/sally-yates-jeff-sessions-deputy-attorney-general-hearing/ Sessions: "You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things and you need to say no... But if the views the President wants to execute are unlawful, should the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General say no?" Yates replies: "Senator, I believe the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution and to give their independent legal advice to the President."

I've just read this https://www.justsecurity.org/36960/stock-weekends-district-court-orders-immigration-eo/ which details the legal challenges to date . Whatever the status/constitutionality of this EO it does seem to have been administered in a way which left the officials on the ground confused as to how to implement the new policy . I wonder if Trump wanted maximum chaos to publicise his actions or if he simply didn't understand the need to consult and iron out the details before he tried to bring this in ?

Thanks for the links ianr - as said ,v helpful . and I'm glad to read this "Prime Minister Theresa May has told her foreign secretary and home secretary to contact their US counterparts about a travel ban imposed by President Trump. Boris Johnson and Amber Rudd will make representations about the order barring refugees and visa holders from seven Muslim majority countries for 90 days. Earlier Mr Johnson tweeted it was "divisive and wrong" to stigmatise people on the basis of nationality." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38789821

So he signs an executive order and it directs policy . And people set about implementing ( stopping people from 7 countries entering US ) or trying to implement ( replace Obamacare with something else ) and that carries on until a legal challenge is succesful ? Can Congress intervene /block executive orders apart from approving a judicial review ? I'm very confused and ignorant .

Bins not collected - apparently "too heavy"
intexasatthe moment replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry but I think Southwarks advice to leave it on the pavement is misguided .What's the rationale behind it I wonder ? It's attracting more rubbish and escalating the problem for no reason .They must have your location from your complaint so it's clearly not to aid identification . -

Very frustrating ! But please could you move it off the pavement and back on to your property ? Might cut down on depositors of fly tipping kind ? Green bins contanimated with non household/green type bin stuff are a bit of a no go I think for collection . Why is it attracting vermin ? Is there food in there ?
