Pavements in SE22 ? Why are they in SO much better condition to those in and around Rye Lane ?
-
Do you really need a name to confirm or deny this alleged new policy ? I don't always catch someone's name or forget to ask . I would think the person LS1234 spoke to has made a mistake . But this such an important issue ,surely the focus should be on clarifying it ,not identifying one individual . Surely someone at Southwark can be found who can say " Yes it's the policy to require yellow double lines across and extending 2 metres to either side over all new crossovers allowing access for householders to park on their forecourt ." Or no it isn't .

I always use the dry cleaning shop at the top of Rye Lane ,near Nigel Rd bus stop ,just before Lerryns ,near Sternhall Lane . Or the dry cleaning shop at The Plough/Dulwich Library also does repairs .

Well I guess it wouldn't need to be 25 degrees . Could they do something clever with alternative energy ? Ground heat source pumps ? Solar ? Mirrors ? Tin foil ? Bubble wrap ? Pedal power from offenders ( wearing blindfolds ) ? And think of the benefit and NHS savings to improved physical and mental health of users ?

Hi - we've been discussing ( on JB's thread ) what I'm sure must be a misunderstanding about Southwark requiring double yellow lines to extend 2 metres either side of any new dropped curbs . eg " LS1234 August 27, 06:13PM I have been told very clearly by Southwark that all new residential dropped curbs will have yellow lines to 2m either side of the dropped curb unless there is an exceptional reason. It is a new rule that has come into force this year to give cars on the road clearer visibility of cars coming off driveways, it does not apply to current dropped curbs. I was also told that existing dropped curbs that are being redone will most likely not be white lined again in the future." Are you able to clarify the position ?

Possible Abuse of Disabled Parking Badge
intexasatthe moment replied to Mrs TP's topic in The Lounge
OP your neighbours practice of allowing his blue badge to be used for the purpose of vistors parking is a misuse of the badge and means that prosecution and a fine are possible . You have all my sympathy for this ongoing problem which I fear is going to be really hard to resolve . -
Otta- the dropped curb allows the householder vehicular access over the footpath . It doesn't bestow ownership of any roadway or pavement . I believe that there is some legal weight to the argument that one shouldn't park across a dropped curb and block the exit of a car/s parked on the drive/forecourt . But none to parking across a dropped curb where there is no car on the forecourt . I imagine that BrandNewGuy was referring to the former situation .

Can you get his email address and email him ? I'd be inclined to refer him to DS.132 2.2 "2.2 Vehicle Crossing or road junction a. If combined vehicle movements in and out of an access to private land in any hour are estimated to be i. ≤ 6 commercial vehicles movements and/or ii. ≤12 vehicles movements of any kind then the access should be designed as a Vehicle Crossing in accordance with the requirements in this standard. " and say that the requirements in DS123 apply to vehicle crossings where there are 6 commercial vehicle movements or 12 vehicle movements of any kind per hour . And could he quote or reference the document and paragraph which details requirements for a crossover to a domestic dwelling with parking for one ( or two ) cars . This must be so frustrating for you .

googled DS.132 "DS.132 Vehicle Crossings This standard explains requirements about the use and the design of crossings over footways and Cycle Tracks to allow motorised vehicles to reach private land from the carriageway (Vehicle Crossings)." 3.7 Parking restrictions around Vehicle Crossings a. See standard DS.002 about providing No Waiting At Any Time restrictions through and in the vicinity of Vehicle Crossings. NOTE: Broadly, in most instances restrictions are needed through and to 2m either side of each Crossing. However, for Vehicle Crossings on Classified Roads (A and B roads) restrictions are normally needed to the entire extent of related visibility splays (for which see standard DS.114). BUT ...DS.1234 also contains the following "2.2 Vehicle Crossing or road junction a. " which makes me think that all this doesn't apply to forecourt parking for an ordinary home .

LS1234 - while I can sort of see the reasoning behind this the impact on neighbours will be awful . I hate cars parked on forecourts and have not gone down this route although it would be easy to do at our property. Who's to say that the next step won't be yellow lines on existing dropped curbs ? I would like to see some figures relating to accidents caused by cars using dropped curb access to support this new policy . edited to say - won't this encourage people who live next door to someone having a dropped curb installed to have a dropped curb as well ? As they and their visitors will no longer be able to park in the road outside their house . So it'll be forecourt parking and dropped curbs all the way ? Surely this can't be a new policy ?

I asked James B about this over on the ask a councillor thread . At one point he says it's an option and then he says he's not aware of it being a new rule . So who knows . http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,336529,1382419,page=125#msg-1382419

"Southwark have a new rule that you have double line any new dropped curb and then to 2 meters either side " James is this true ? I note that you say that this " is one option but a number go in without such double yellow lines every year locally " . In what circumstances would double yellow lines be extended beyond the dropped curb ? Obviously excluding cases where there are double yellow lines already .

Could be over watered and it's suffocating . Is it in the ground or a pot ?

Cold Water Tank Advice in a Loft Conversion
intexasatthe moment replied to fredflange's topic in The Lounge
Our bedroom is a loft conversion - cheaply done before we bought the property . There is a large cold water tank in a cupboard ,no insulation . we've never been bothered by the noise and i'm a light sleeper ,woken by foxes ,cats ,motor bikes etc -
They're at the end of Rye Lane where the T junction west/left to Camberwell and right/east to New Cross in that canopied bit ( Peckham Square ? ) with the library behind and Peckham High St in front . Very breezy spot ,nice on the hottest day ,otherwise wear something warm .

Balance it on a bike ?

Amazing photos on the Fen Farm campsite site http://www.fenfarm.co.uk/project/90-years-of-fen-farm/. I've seen static caravans with fences around them ,but never tents . Perhaps they bought the pitch with a view to " upgrading " to a caravan ? Or stayed with the tent ? some of the structures/tents are pretty ingenious .

Here's my reply from the New Schools Network . I had asked what criteria they would use to decide between the two bids for a secondary school and a possible third bid for a primary school on the hospital site . I also asked whether Nash or the EFA would make the final decision . " Thanks for getting in touch with NSN regarding the Free School application process. Although groups applying to the DfE to open a Free School are asked to outlined their preferred site, this aspect of the application is not assessed by the department. What would be considered when assessing two applications in the same area, is how many schools were needed to meet the level of need in the area as well viability of each bid. The details of the criteria can be found here. Post approval, The Education Funding Agency work with all approved groups to acquire a suitable site. While the group?s preference will be taken into account by the Education Funding Agency post approval, there is no guarantee that a group will be given either their first choice site or any of the sites they may have expressed a preference for in the application. Therefore, if two groups had expressed an interest in the same site, it would be a decision taken by the EFA post-approval as to which, if either, project was given the site. I hope that answers your question. If there is anything else you need, please get in touch."
