family tent recommendations?
intexasatthe moment replied to nikki73's topic in The Family Room Discussion
http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1313548,1325099#msg-1325099 I'd recommend going to Surrey Quays and looking at the tents in Decathalon . -
Save this tree - due for removal tomorrow

"The Southwark website has application forms if one wanted to make changes impacting a TPO tree, but how does one establish if it has a TPO or not in the first place? " I've looked for this unsuccesfully ,in the past . Would be great if there was on on line . -
Harris Free School Primary on Hospital Site
intexasatthe moment replied to Lou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Mmmm ,I see very little space for a full primary school - http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/DocsOnline/Documents/364051_1.pdf unless they lost a good bit of what little open space remains . And having looked at the earlier planning application http://planningonline.southwark.gov.uk/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPNAME=Root.PgeDocs&TheSystemkey=9527258 when the school was being revamped to become an academy I see that the site is Metropolitan Open Land and that special pleading had to be made to justify the expansion of buildings . But who knows ,perhaps Harris are influential enough to pull it off . So it really does look unlikely that it would be possible to accomodate a new primary school on this site and that it's not a just a simple matter of Southwark Planning pulling their finger out and granting permission . -

Thanks Renata . And thanks for the link ,will take a look . -
Sue I don't understand these things but I think the survey link was somehow generated by something that had nothinh to do with the EDF ,must have been some sort of chameleon type bug that detected what site I was on and then pretended to be connected to it ???? But anyway it all seems to have gone now . God I don't understand these things !

Renata I agree with all you've said and I'm sorry to be thick and ask for more info but ....going back to available space at ED harris girls for a permanent primary ....I can see it would be tough to accomodate a temporary primary as they're doing ( in housing the ED Harris primary school which will in time move to site of police station ) plus accomodating a new permanent Nunhead primary . But I'm thinking if they could house a temp .primary then once that had gone they'd have space for a new permanent one . r doesn't it work like that ? Perhaps they could cope with sharing outside ,hall etc space for a short period but not on a permanent basis ? If I read JB's posts correctly ,he's implying that there is space for a permanent primary at ED harris Girls and that it's just that Southwark won't/are delaying giving planning permission . But if the current head doesn't think there's space then I'm thinking there isn't space . -

James - there is some doubt about whether there is space on the Harris ED Girls site for a permanent primary school . Where will it be situated ? I guessed that it might go where the swimming pool used to be and you indicated it would . But do you know for sure that there is space and where it will go ? -
Hi thanks everyone it seems to be ok now . The banner ads were all missing . Odd nouns in posts appeared in blue like a link and had a green icon pointing at them . Moving the mouse over them meant an invitation for a survey came up . Well that's how I remember it - odd how little one retains of details once the event has passed . The problem was only on the EDF site ,other pages ,email etc were unaffected . I've got MacAfee . Thank you all for such speedy responses .
-
Just to warn others who are as silly as me . I was happily browsing ED frorum and a request to complete a survey popped up .I wouldn't normally partake but as it was EDF I unthinkingly completed it . Now my browser is showing the EDF with all adverts removed and prppered with green icons which ask for more surveys to be completed . Anyone know how I can remove this bug ?

Harris Free School Primary on Hospital Site

" now that Harris have secured the police site, is that really the best use of the hospital land now? " No ,not at all . Might there possibly be some sort of domino knock on effect - places freed up at Goose Green ,places freed up at Heber ,places freed up at Goodrich - which might mean Nunhead families able to get places at Goodrich ???? Just brainstorming here - clearly what's needed is more provision in Nunhead . Poor Nunhead families indeed . -
I think there is concern over the potential for the roof terraces to be used by occupiers of the new flats . Concern has been expressed that the change of use would open up the roof terraces use to 24 hours as opposed to current office hours . Although I suppose if there really is going to be no change at all to existing exterior then the air conditioning units and " other plant " which are apparently there at the moment will remain and presumably deter any leisure use .

As buggie has already queried ,where on the East Dulwich Harris Girls site would the primary school go ? Is there space at the rear of the site where a swimming pool used to be ? -

It does seem that more primary school places are needed to meet demand in the Nunhead area and that putting a primary school on the hospital site won't meet this need .But,as others have said, from James's post on page 1 of the new secondary school for ED thread http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1229772 this has been the plan all along . "The Dulwich Hospital site is the only Dulwich land with sufficient space for a secondary school. A secondary school would still leave plenty of space for the proposed primary school and proposed medical facilities. " So it seems there is sufficient space but that the problem ( for the provision of the secondary school ) is financial ? "I suspect this is an attempt to thwart a secondary school on the hospital site as it would reduce the potential sale receipts for NHS Property. " - could James or some other knowledgeable person explain this sentence a bit more ? -
"I am horrified that the council consulted with NO neighbours to this site and the application for 5 new flats above Foxtons. That they've granted permission based on no neighbours being consulted is appalling. I didn't spot any notice left on lamp posts in the area. I believe the only recourse now is a Judicial Review to remove this permission. I don't have the resources to fund this. I have email Gary Rice the dept head who signed this under delegated powers asking why no neighbours were consulted." James ,sure you have been and continue to be snowed under but have you heard from Gary Rice yet ?
-
" I would like to know exactly what we are all going to be looking at from our gardens and back bedrooms and have an opportunity to be heard on any inappropriate design features and potential loss of privacy. This would be entirely normal and appropriate when no change of use is involved, so why does a change of use exempt them from the normal consultation process? " Quite agree . I had no idea that ,based on the fact that this is an application for change of use, that consultation on the effect of the development on neighbours was not necessary . Although legal and not breaching planning this seems extraordinary to me . James Barber has said "I have email Gary Rice the dept head who signed this under delegated powers asking why no neighbours were consulted. " . I appreciate what an extremely busy few weeks it's been for James but wonder if he's had a reply yet .

I think he's talking about the Nunhead Harris primary that's going to take over the police station in September 2015. The dates mentioned, the name, the trajectory all are weirdly the same as the planned Harris primary which was approved in Feb 2014 to be housed in Harris girls then moved to old police station, LL in September 2015. Let's hope so before Harris takes over the world."

I agree with kittysailing ,Gove's team have confused the sites . Bit puzzled though that James/Renata haven't commented yet though . Guess they're double checking with powers that be that this really is just a large typo . And just realised only posted last night . -
Two girls going through bins
intexasatthe moment replied to lilolil's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No I'm not trying to goad you into an argument or sabotage a thread . Just trying to point out that it's reasonable to regard the contents of a wheelie bin as unwanted . Maybe I'm odd but I regard clothes on washing lines ,plants in gardens and my D bolted bike that was stolen from the forecourt of our house as slightly different from contents of rubbish bin . But clearly there are upmarket contents that differ from those I put in my bin . -

Sigh all you like lilolil ,bags in wheelie bin for safekeeping ? That's just silly . Appreciate point about " heads up " and suppose there will be people who find it useful . From my own point of view I honestly don't mind if people want to go through my rubbish/recycling bins . It's stuff I'm getting rid of and doesn't include personal details . If it's any good to someone else they're welcome to it . -

Bags outside house ,even on a driveway ,probably not best method of safekeeping . -
