I haven't been able to sleep ALL night as I am so desperate to read Davey Jones's next instalment. I have no doubt it will be gripping. (((stifles a yawn)))

"Rowanofsking......there is more to life then the Thai Corner in East Dulwich, have you heard of 'Google?', it will help you discover more then just East Dulwich." That put you in your place Rowanofski! I mean, didn't you know that there was more to London than just East Dulwich? Of course you did! Another great thing about the TCC is that it's BYO bottle, which massively cuts down on the overall bill. ?5.50 for a main meal is 'OK' compared to most Thai places which charge in excess of ?8 for a main. Anyway, Rowanofski, I'd MUCH prefer to eat Thai than say....Icelandic fare, for example, wouldn't you?::o

What do you suggest that the Coop does to change its layout? Buy out and bulldoze down the launderette next door, perhaps? The Coop is a small(ish) space, but surely it could use that space more effectively? A few of us had high hopes when we saw it was being refurbished. Frankly these hopes have been dashed. It should just have stayed as it was!
-
Or perhaps he's just feeling a bit 'woof'?

Ok so the TCC's food is not quite what you'd get in Thailand, but it is a lovely place. I have been going for years and won't have a bad word said about the place. It is reasonably priced and the waiters are lovely. I'd like a bit more rice with my orders, but apart from that it is brill.
-
I agree with much of what has been said about this Coop, but they do do good whiole chickebs which are failry well priced. However, everything else is extortionate and the range of produce dire. The Turkish shop is quite good for fruit and veg. Happily I don't have the worry of having to deal with double buggies in shops.

Forest Hill Road Traffic lights
Lizziedjango replied to zephyr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes but PeckhamRose, depends what type of roundabouts you mean. Mini ones are a nightmare. Most drivers aren't aware - or don't care - that they should give way to the right. -
Damzel "Personally I can't think of anything worse! Support your local traders as much as you can and get Ocado to deliver the rest." Chance would be a fine thing. Ocado is very expensive, and so are many of the local traders unfortunately. I don't particularly 'like' supermarkets but they tend to be more reasonably priced than small shops, and they are open much of the time. I love the local shops in ED but cannot afford to spend much money in them.

Forest Hill Road Traffic lights
Lizziedjango replied to zephyr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nightmare. If you want to turn right going down Forest Hill Rd you hold the traffic up behind you, and the same goes for if you're turning right (past the DIY shop) coming the other way. If it's a van or truck turning then there is no way round. I have seen cars mounting the pavement in their eagerness to get by - obviously very dangerous, especially as there are lots of parents and children milling around that area. The lights were fine as they were. The traffic jams were never like this!! In fact, it was rare to see a jam at all. Not so now. :( -
I have had to cut down a lot on organic products Fuschia. Just can't afford it. Having said that, I have been ordering organic stuff from Asda and they do a reasonable range.

Cora, I have two numbers for Amott Rd - 07946 764881 and 020 76392224. With the landline number ring bw 9.00-11.45 and let it ring for a while. It takes Maloney, Lisa and Tina a while to reach the office! -

Amott Road Nursery / Pre-School / Play Group
Lizziedjango replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My son attended Amott Rd pre-school, and I can't enthuse about it enough. The teachers are superb, and it is such a happy environment. I am very thankful that I found about this little gem when I did. It is open 9.15-11.45 term time, and parents contribute a small sum. The rest comes from a government grant. There are limited places, but if you work shifts/odd hours/have childcare sorted, then I would highly recommend putting your child's name down for this place. If you are not eligible for the grant, the cost is ?80 a month for 5 mornings a week. Well worth it, in my opinion. -

Are you serious?!! -
Pugwash, for entry to St Anthony's, it is OK if just one parent attends Mass -as long as the children have been baptised and attend Mass too. My husband isn't a Catholic, but I have been regularly going to Mass since day dot and the priests happily wrote references for my children. As to local schools, most of the state primaries are good, if not excellent. If you are Catholic, St Anthony's and St Francesca Cabrini are v. good. Fairlawn is an excellent primary, and most parents are happy with Goodrich and Heber. I have heard good things about the Church of England school, St John's in Goose Green too. As to secondary schools, if you're Catholic, Coloma in Croydon is excellent and several girls travel from East Dulwich to that school. It is outstanding. Unfortunately, I would not say that there is an 'excellent' state secondary school round here though. There might be if more middle class parents opted out of the private sector. But it is a hard choice when your children are involved. If I am still living in East Dulwich. I would like my sons to go to The Oratory in Fulham, although that will involve quite a lot of travel.

Dig me having a moan again! If it's not foxes it's bloody, noisy helicopters. I have been kept awake often due to the latter, and even though I squeezed my earplugs in tightly into my ears last night, the noise from above was still extremely loud. I didn't manage to sleep 'til past midnight. Does anyone know what this is all about? Are they police helicopters?
-
LOL PeckhamRose. You make a good point. I am usually very busy when posting on here so prone to making errors.

Glad someone can have a laugh over this issue! Incidentally, I spoke too soon and there was loads of fox poo greeting me this morning, Had no option but to use a kettle of boiling water and lots of bleach on the path, and (((whispers))) I chucked the 'harder stuff' ie pellets over the garden fence. I was in such a rush. I feel bad about it! David Mc. I see you have informed MW of her spelling error. It is really annoying when certain posters try and correct other posters' grammar on internet forums such as this.

Thanks for that DeptfordDiva, I was contemplating getting some Jeyes fluid. Don't want to inadvertently kill my cat, or any cat come to that. Update on fox poo situation: not sure if it is due to the rainy weather, but I have not seen any poo for a few days now. I am hoping it will continue!
-
it is opposite the GPs in Forest Hill Rd. By the parade of shops which include Si mangia an Italian restaurant
-
Yes bon3yard, the urban foxes do have a miserable existence. It is why I do - to some extent - feel a bit sorry for them. I would never want them killed or anything like that. I just want humane ways of deterring them from crapping all over my surrounding areas. My son already got their poo all over his hands, which totally freaked me out. If I hadn't washed it off immediately with disinfectant he would definitely have got ill. The rubbish men tread in it all the time en-route to getting my bins, leaving even more of the repellent stuff stamped everywhere!! I know my neighbours feed them bones and stuff, so I have dropped them a polite note asking that they not do it.

Just went in today for the first time since the revamp. Thought it was very expensive and no organic stuff apart from milk :( Produce aside - and it is a shop after all - it LOOKS better. However, I'd have preferred a better range of food. They still do great chicken, so can't complain too much.
