  1. It was called Budgens when I moved to ED 20 years ago. I?m originally from Merseyside and 24 hour shops didn?t exist at the time I left (or if they did, I didn?t see any). It was rebranded as B2 later on, and I?m fairly sure it had another name but can?t recall it,
  2. Thanks Helen. I hope she was able to get some help.
  3. Did anyone hear this at 4am this morning? The person in question sounded extremely distressed and the police were involved.
  4. What was that loud thundery bang a few moments ago?
  5. good advice - thanks StraferJack
  6. Ladygooner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > http://toastdulwich.co.uk/wp-content/themes/toaste > ddulwich/Lunch.pdf Thanks Ladygooner but it's still got the grey blocks. Perhaps i need to update Adobe?
  7. I'm hoping to have lunch at toastED today but when I go to the website and click on the lunch menu, I just get a .pdf with blocks of grey and no text. Anyone else have this problem? (I'm using a Mac). I emailed them and the address on the website isn't working. It'd just be nice to browse the menu before I go along.
  8. Yes I was there - there were a few bemused faces on the platform! I was amongst those who wandered up to the train when it stopped and managed to get on when the rear doors were first opened. Disappointingly, the driver didn't apologise for the error. There were a few problems there this morning - lineside fire meant that the only lines running were L Bridge and Victoria.
  9. I'm glad I'm not the only person who is really disappointed with this shop. The stock control seems to be very erratic, if not non-existent. Very poor management. Nice checkout staff though.
  10. thanks Sue. Amazed to see that 171 people have read my post since yesterday!
  11. I found a small set of keys just outside 30 Minute Digital Photos last night. I handed them in at Kaival newsagent next door - as the photo shop was closed. They looked like house keys. Sorry for not posting earlier - it's been a really busy morning.
  12. yes - this has happened to me twice now. They are doing offers on the wine and I was nearly charged full price for a bottle of red last night. You have to actually point out to them that it's on offer. Best thing to do is to be vigilant when they ring up the amount - as Jeremy says, they haven't been entered into the system.
  13. not a ridiculous idea at all - i've seen some quite unbelievable petulance from bus drivers on that route. i've got no problem with bus drivers turfing people off if they don't show a valid ticket but ... i do have an issue with behaviour such as turning the engine off because people haven't moved down the bus far enough (even though there's no more room to move down), driving past a stop for no reason where there are people waiting (and there's loads of room inside), being extremely rude to passengers who politely ask if the bus stops in a particular place... shall i go on? At times, some of them behave like spoilt children.
  14. But it sounds like this guy was clearly making a big performance out of examining the bus pass. Why does it take 30 seconds to decide whether a bus pass is genuine? Some - not all - bus drivers in London do like to go on a power trip sometimes. I've experienced extreme arrogance from them on a number of occasions.
  15. I've never eaten there but I've noticed that The Palmerston is damn pricey when it comes to drinks.
  16. Had a takeaway from Surma the other week and it was awful. I had to throw half of it away. Never again.
  17. Sad to say but, in my experience, this kind of incident happens every so often on the buses which run through ED. Some of the drivers just seem to be ready to kick off at anything. I once saw a man get on a 176 and, in halting English, ask the driver if he went to Oxford St. The driver shouted "can't you f***in' read the front?" and the poor bloke looked terrified. I've also seen a driver of a P13 drive past a bus stop where there were 4 people waiting, one of whom clearly put his arm out - ignoring a passenger who wanted to get off at said stop. Don't get me wrong, most of them seem perfectly fine - but there are a few who need to go on an anger management course.
  18. I'm really sorry to hear about this. Really frustrating this - I also live on Hansler Road and I came back from town on a 176 at taround the same time last night, and got off at the Co-op. I wish I could remember who got off the bus but I can't. Of course it may not have been the same one. Will certainly keep an eye out for these kids.
  19. Gosh ... a single woman in Dulwich? Who hasn't got a snooty attitude?
  20. It's a great idea - and it might kick the collective bottom of all ED curry establishments. I'm up for it and so is my flatmate.

    Oh No CHAV?!

I didn't realise Chav was from Liverpool originally - as a fellow ex-pat Merseysider myself, I can assure you all that the Greens are in safe hands.
  22. I love the fact that someone else puts 'ington' after certain words!!! Lunchington - that's great, Ultraconsultancy. I've often been known to go for a Currington too.
  23. Haven't really encountered much 'unfriendliness' in ED to tell the truth. The new people in Cheers seem to be really nice - they had a hard act to follow in Daniel but they greet you with a smile. The Ralon guy admittedly can be a bit full-on - I went in there to get something printed from a floppy dish a while back and he made a big performance about getting the guy upstairs to do it, 'we don't normally do this' etc etc. I think he just needs to calm down.
  24. I've just got home and, having got off the 176 at Budgens, the first thing that hit me was the smell of the Curry Cabin. Then I thought, 'shall I go in and just get a curry?' but remembered what happened a few Fridays ago when I got a takeaway from there and suffered the consequences next morning. They should create a new special and call it Grease Madras (aged cheaply-sourced chicken offcuts, disintegrates quickly in the mouth, marinated im generic, overly-spiced sub-Somerfield reheated fatty sauce, guaranteed to irritate your bowel next morning). Another delighted customer!
  25. The Coriander is awful - I don't know how they stay open. As for Surma, I was a regular until recently. I think the success has gone to their heads.
