  1. Two Tuesdays ago, around 10:40, I was walking up Greendale, still in the flattish bit, just before the first side paths, when I met a family of geese who were walking down the path in the opposite direction. One adult at the front, accompanying maybe 8-10 little furballs, with a second bringing up the rear, honking loudly at about fifty to the minute. I moved out of their way and wondered what if anything to do. A man who was walking behind them -- I didn't know whether with them -- mentioned the park, which did seem the obvious good and likely destination. Wherever, they seemed to know what they were doing, and seemed to be getting on with it very well without any help at all, so I just stood there and wondered ... A couple of minutes later, no-one in sight. A woman sitting outside JAGS said she'd seen a man/men who'd stopped the traffic on EDG so that the geese could cross safely, so well done them. Did the geese get to the park, or anywhere hospitable? I was hoping and half expecting to read that they'd been seen arriving, but nothing here at all.

    Up the reform

How many are there in your racist category?
  3. > Or else it's a relatively thin trunk? Or a rather thick old trunk, covered in leaf growth? Look at the damage caused to the end and right hand railings. NewWave, any chance of loading your neighbour's photo here? Or anyone else with some good focused photos, from various viewpoints if possible?
  4. That seems to be a multi-pronged multi-product company specialising in selling services to councils, etc. See eg https://uk.one.network/customer-stories. Their dynamic relay of real-time congestion reports may be useful, but I've no idea how complete or authoritative it is. And are there any other public utilities available on that site? I've found https://public.londonworks.gov.uk/roadworks/home useful for full access to the London Roadworks Register. Enter, say, just Southwark and you can get a list or map of all current and planned roadworks. There's also https://streetcare.tfl.gov.uk/ for reporting and viewing reports of street problems, from major to very minor. I've used it to report a vandalised bus stop display panel, very minor; but I see that something to do with traffic lights (for which TfL have, I believe, statutory responsibility) can be dealt with quickly: eg https://streetcare.tfl.gov.uk/report/7456860. I'm far from sure that they're directly responsible for dealing with contractors' faulty mobile traffic lights, though their remit does extend to anything that might indirectly affect the red routes. Otherwise it would I believe be a problem owned by the borough and the contractor. See https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/boroughs-and-communities/information-by-borough?intcmp=17175#on-this-page-2 about suitable contacts. A few days after writing the following I did see that the faulty mobile lights in Grove Vale did have an 0800 phone number for Conway on it. Any one of us could have phoned them at any time, and presumably achieved something useful to all. Or even given streetcare a try. Perhaps, presumably, none of us did. In which case, nostra culpa. "I spent half an hour, shortly after the first warning on the forum, observing and making a voice recording logging all the changes [and flows], but never got round to collating them. There were some very definite faults like [mobile light stuck at red], probably intermittent in nature. And some of the basic timing seemed to have some excessive intervals, possibly for the safety of pedestrians, though I'd be very wary of saying they should be shorter without good analysis. And overall, the traffic seemed very tolerant of the waits, and not jammed to the extent of creating longer and longer queues. I'm not sure what a traffic flow analyst would make of it."
  5. What have people thought after looking at their Companies House submissions and their website?
  6. Smiley_blue_1234, perhaps the photo was of a business collection and not of one made by Veolia or on behalf of Southwark. And perhaps Buzzard's neighbours are omnivores.
  7. HARD_LANDSCAPE_LAYOUT-4004176.pdf
  8. Definitely the building. The original application dates from 2022. The accumulated final reference looks like 24-AP-3740, which shows the northwest elevation on Railway Rise.
  9. Do you have any binoculars? My first ever sighting of swifts was when I was lying in the park, trying out some 10x25s. Nothing at all within plain sight, but when I was playing around with the focus -- presumably for clouds or planes -- suddenly there they were. I've still never heard any in real life though. The sample I heard on the BBC website sounded fairly high frequency and not very loud, so I suppose I might miss some; but then there have been precious few reports I've seen here of any being heard. The only one I remember is Jenny1's last year.
  10. Do they put anything in any of their bins?
  11. See page 37 (re vaccine to be used - Pfizer or Moderna) of Ch.14a of the compendious NHS Green Book on Immunisation. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/67d8a1979dc953ac3bfe9382/GreenBook-chapter-14a-COVID-19-17_3_25.pdf And from page 32: "Spring 2025 The committee has recommended that those eligible for COVID-19 vaccination are: ● adults aged 75 years and over ● residents in a care home for older adults ● individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosupressed (as defined in the "immunosuppression" row of table 3 and table 4)"
  12. I've always thought, though without seeking any supporting information, that any mildish transient side effects were at least confirmation of the immune system's being able to detect incomers, and without going out of control -- so generally to be welcomed. (That doesn't btw mean that I take their absence to be a bad sign.)
  13. The sticker I was given at Kristal in December said Pfizer/Cominarty. I see it now comes in ten-packs of preloaded syringes, and though initially stored ultra-cold, can now be delivered and stored for up to ten weeks at 2-8 degrees C, and then kept at 8-25 degrees for no more than twelve hours.
  14. And you can access all the various Southwark licence registers via https://app.southwark.gov.uk/. It took me some time to find this last week so I've been meaning to pass it on anyway. The register you'll want for pubs is the premises licence.
  15. I can't find any evidence that the Norwood Road, Herne Hill PO is a Crown office, even in an FOIA reply of 2014 listing them all then: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/lists_of_crown_owned_and_franchi/response/505799/attach/6/Post Office Crown Branches List.pdf; but it does seem to offer some road tax and passport service: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder/1330071/herne-hill. So may there be some degrees of freedom?
  16. I think EastDulwicher was probably referring to the Extended Primary Care Service (EPCS) which also uses the TJ Health Centre and one of whose functions seems to be to provide some kind of backup service for South Southwark GP practices.
  17. Have there been any happy outcomes yet? I was reminded of this thread by Kate Bradbury's recent two minute Radio4 Tweet of the Day spot on swifts and swift boxes. She too plays their calls out of her window hoping to attract them. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0029yp8 Coincidentally, last week I came across a planning condition attached to the permission (24/AP/3592) granted to the old Melbourne Grove GP premises, that they install "no less than four bee bricks." They're specifically for so-called solitary bees, who seem to be regarded as equally busy and deserving. Kate B. mentioned that Brighton now attaches a similar condition, requiring swift boxes in all new-builds. Might Southwark be doing so too? [30/4/25, 18/6/25 ETA To answer my own question: I see that 4 swift nesting boxes were actually required at an earlier stage of that same developments application. In the 4/4/25 Decision Notice of application 24/AP/3740 is: "8. The development shall be carried out in accordance with the swift bricks details approved under 24/AP/3596 unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Local Planning Authority"]
  18. Increased privacy and security are typical motivations. I'm very amateurish in using Google Street View, but am I right in thinking that the properties are shown blurred there?
  19. Are they a hybrid of teletubby and some other species?
  20. There's an article about some of its residents, "Greendale - Who lived in a road like this?", by Sharon O’Connor, at https://www.dulwichsociety.com/the-journal/winter-2022/greendale.
  21. I was under the age of criminal responsibility when I took the goosegogs, m'lud, and it still remains on my conscience.
