The Denmark Hill bin turns up on the Southwark advice page (where they include batteries) at https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/waste-electricals#. Perhaps not local but maybe of use (my laptop battery comes in at 22cm): ‘Very small WEEE’ are items of waste electrical and electronic equipment that are less than 25cm on their longest side. "You must take back all items of ‘very small WEEE’ in store if your electrical and electronic equipment sales area is greater than 400 square metres including aisle, display and shelf space." https://www.gov.uk/electricalwaste-producer-supplier-responsibilities/take-back-waste-in-store That's from this thread: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/303055-light-bulbs-recycling-nearby/

I agree about its being an off-licence -- no licensee's name above the front door, and confirmed as a long-standing one by https://londonwiki.co.uk/LondonPubs/Camberwell/LordshipLane157.shtml. Attached is a Style& Wing ad from the Kentish Express of 1 May 1942, found in britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk.[removed. Can't find a way of stopping it being displayed within post.]

Problems finding Delmosart and other medicine in pharmacies
ianr replied to radnrach's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The NHS Electronic Drug Tariff, which is updated monthly, is viewable online. Here's the current version, opened at Part IIIA, professional fees: https://www.drugtariff.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/#/00859526-DC/DC00859454/Part IIIA - Professional Fees (Pharmacy Contractors). The basic fee in England for dispensing an item is shown there as £1.27. I see that £20 appears as the dispensing fee for medicines that aren't on the standard list of licensed medicines. The prices for the medicines themselves are in Parts VIIIA (standard licensed medicines) and VIIIB (unlicensed, etc). There's also a FAQ page https://faq.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/knowledgebase/article/KA-01473/en-us which partly explains the categories A, C and M that appear throughout the price lists. There appear to be some ongoing revisions to the reimbursement scales that I don't know anything about. There are obviously people actively in charge of what appears to be a large and complex system, which I also don't know much about. The current problems seem to me to be largely about ongoing wide shortages of a significant number of medicines. Why they've occurred and how they may be remedied I don't know. If anyone wants to research this I'm sure there will be be some competent commentaries somewhere on the web. I'd be glad myself for pointers to any usefully well-informed and informative articles. (And please also include any detailed stuff about any systemic quirks or faults that might make some transactions unprofitable for pharmacists.) -

https://dulwichparkfriends.org.uk/the-park/map-of-the-park/ for a map showing the path, plus some contacts, plus mention of Friends' "Tend the park" sessions. I've used that path myself for jogging occasionally. I hadn't known anyone had designated it as such, and I see no reason why walkers shouldn't use it as well. IIRC it's just the bits in the south half of the park that are narrow and like a woodland path; nicely reminiscent in a small way of cross-country runs on Wimbledon Common. The Dog Exercise area shown on the map seems to me, though I don't remember clearly, more like an open area, nothing to do with the path.

When I watch the clouds from my window they quite often appear like very slow-moving lines of vehicles on a multi-lane highway, gradually edging forward. So I was rather doubtful when I just now saw them creep forward a very small amount, pause a short while, and then make a small reverse, more or less back to the point they'd advanced from. Another pause, and then the same repeated. And again and again. More perhaps like a small moored boat, being blown by the wind. I don't at this moment remember seeing anything quite like that before, at least for it to seem so memorable, though possibly i have, and forgotten. I doubt it's peculiar to Dulwich, but Dulwich is where I happen to be, and it is nature. So hello clouds.

According to https://www.daiduefratelli.co.uk/ they're only open at lunchtime from Friday to Sunday. I didn't see any mention of takeaways. I daresay they'll be happy to hear any suggestions or queries.

Problems finding Delmosart and other medicine in pharmacies
ianr replied to radnrach's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Noted. I wasn't quite sure from their material whether the 'ad lib' supply by pharmacists had to be mandated; hence the suggestion to check. There are plenty of individual manufacturers of generic methylphenidate, probably quite a bit cheaper too. I'm afraid I didn't see radnrach's "can't really take an alternative", so apologies for presuming otherwise. For myself I'm generally willing to trust that any manufacturer's offering of, say, 27 mg methylphenidate hydrochloride tabs, would contain that, and I'm not too worried about the minor quirks of things like their slow-release technology. I think it's likely that the medicines Serious Shortage Protocol does definitely give pharmacists some degrees of freedom. But it's apparently not in operation here. See the Minister's recent reply to a written question: https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2023-11-13/1660#. , which seems to approximate to: we can't apply the shortage protocol here because the drugs are in short supply. -

I see that in Nottinghamshire the local NHS Area Prescribing Committee is recommending that prescriptions should be for generic methylphenidate, giving their pharmacists the option of supplying any brand (or presumably a generic product). https://www.nottsapc.nhs.uk/media/bw5df5pu/methylphenidate-pil.pdf It might be worth checking with your local pharmacist(s) to see whether this will help them if, as I suppose would be necessary, your GP issues a replacement prescription. I'll have a look around our local NHS websites now, to see if I can find anything there. Nottingham, btw, provide more information, nominally for clinicians, at https://www.nottsapc.nhs.uk/media/vwxjkaxa/adhd-medicines-supply-advice.pdf. And at https://www.nottsapc.nhs.uk/adhd-shortages/. -

There is a physiotherapy service advertised there, though I suppose it might be just a consulting room. Someone earlier asked about what departments were available in the TJ health centre. I got this list in mid-March but forgot to upload it, so thanks for the reminder. It's copied from the signboard inside the entrance. 1st flooor: Community Health Services, GP Services, Physiotherapy, Ground Floor: Renal Dialysis Unit, Diagnostics & Blood Tests, Children's Services, Group Rooms, Outpatients, Day Lewis Pharmacy [Is there any way one can attach photo files here without their being displayed?]

Moped crash scams around Barry Road/Underhill/Goodrich

There have been at least two or three threads on the topic in the last couple of years. I'm afraid they'll all confirm that you assumed wrongly. I remember looking into it myself and finding nothing to assist anyone who made the same assumption. While recently having a look through the Townley Road appeals decided in 2023, I came across this determination that also clearly spells it out. 31/3/23 Reasons Mr X appeals against two Penalty Charge Notices. He argues that they have only been issued in order to make money for the council. Mr X states that the restrictions were introduced to make it safe for school students in the morning and afternoon and that as both 26th December 2022 and 2nd January 2023 were public holidays there was no purpose in enforcing the restriction. The appellant states that he was driving to collect an elderly relative. Townley Road is a route that is for buses, cycles and taxis only Monday to Friday 8-9am and 3-4.30pm. The restriction is in operation every Monday to Friday whether or not schools are on holiday or if it is a bank or public holiday. There was no indication on the sign that the prohibition was not being enforced on either Monday 26th December or Monday 2nd January. I have seen the CCTV footage in relation to each contravention. I have also seen photographs of the signs and camera car footage that show the signs and warning signs. I find that the signs are clear and that there is sufficient warning of the restriction to enable a driver to take an alternative route. I find that each contravention occurred. I refuse both appeals.

HELP, what are the rules about driving through Dul' Village
ianr replied to peckhamside's topic in Roads & Transport
There appear to be exemptions from some 'Streetspace' provisions potentially available to blue badge holders: see https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/disabled-parking/parking-with-a-blue-badge?chapter=2. -

Royal Mail Late Deliveries and the price we have to pay
ianr replied to a topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It eventually arrived this morning, accompanied by two bank letters dated 17 and 18 April. -
For a direct bus route, there's Aldi, Lidl and Tesco on adjacent stops on Rushey Green, Catford -- about 30 minutes on the 185 from ED Grove. And ED to Catford by train can be done in a quarter hour if you pick the right times.

Back, regrettably, to the Private Eye benchmark test. Have folk expecting the issue that would normally have been delivered on Wednesday the 24th received theirs yet, and if so, when?
