> And this was before the law changed so should be easier now. The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, Schedule 4 specifically enables recovery of unpaid parking charges from a vehicle's registered owner if the driver's name and address aren't made available.

Research study on Unusual Experiences - ?20 for 2 hours
ianr replied to raphunderwood's topic in The Lounge
"I know an officer in our police force who has told me that many times when off duty and on his way home in the evening, there comes to him such a vivid and vital realization of his oneness with this Infinite Power, and this Spirit of Infinite Peace so takes hold of and so fills him that it seems as if his feet could scarcely keep to the pavement, so buoyant and so exhilarated does he become by reason of this inflowing tide." ETA citation: from: In tune with the infinite; Author: Trine, Ralph Waldo , 1897. Quoted in a footnote in William James's Varieties of religious experience. -

The porn links aren't just PMs. There are some posted in threads (posing as newsflashes) seven hours ago that are still there. I wonder if their Admin has fled.

They're still up there. I can hear them.

Does anyone else have poor signal near the Horniman?
ianr replied to Supernanny*'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
ruffers> Just to be clear the EE signal box isn't a signal booster, it's a femtocell. Interesting. I hadn't been aware of such things. It looks close to having an additional VoIP service provided by your telco. Do they all provide them now? I see that Three do ( http://www.tubblog.co.uk/blog/2013/05/13/using-a-three-home-signal-femtocell-to-improve-a-mobile-phone-signal-2/ or http://support.three.co.uk/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBISAPI.DLL/,/?New,Kb=Mobile,Ts=Mobile,T=CaseDoc,Case=obj%285440%29). I also see that EE say: "When you use the Signal Box it will use some of your of your home broadband allowance. To give you a guide: a 20 minute call will use around 9MB." http://help.ee.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1016&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFlag=false&segment=consumer&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=629170&CUSTOM_BRAND=Orange&SOURCE_RELATED_ARTICLE=true and also: "You can also use the 3G signal to access the internet, but we'd recommend you use WiFi because it saves on your monthly data allowance and is generally faster." So presumably you pay them for such EE network use, even voice calls, at their data rate rather than by time? -
For the chance of occasionally meeting the wonderful Jack Russell-pug crossbreed Misty, of course. "Everyone goes nuts for her." I bet she's well-balanced. http://theblissfuldog.com/dogs-have-chakras-too/

"little dream world ... glossy ... plush ... shiny ... chillout ... bright ... snazzy ... welcoming vibe ... heavy incense ...top-notch ... yoga-themed tea on tap, with tea flavours designed to evoke different chakras ... not a cheap hobby ... inclusive .... smart ..." ?I was doing Pilates in Dulwich for a while but I stopped because I couldn?t be bothered to cycle in the rain any more.? It's an advertising feature aimed at "Peckham?s yoga bunnies". Charlie Brooker would love it.

Not in my opinion. Deleting content is unhelpful to others. They might, for example, waste time a day or two after a post was published, searching for it again but unable to find it. It's also unhelpful to the poster. It would remove information that might help a reader gain a good impression of them as a seller. It might also get them wondering what reasons anyone had for deleting details of what they had been trying to sell. Most of the ones that come to my mind involve some variety of dishonesty. I'd leave the housekeeping to Admin, who will mainly be concerned with clogged gigabytes and will trawl from time to time. Users can't delete a whole post anyway, so just take care of the subject line. "Sold" or whatever added there tells all that's needed, in a few tenths of a second. Opening a thread to find the content gone takes a lot longer and may annoy.

Looking for a family to feature in documentary about food waste...
ianr replied to katyakatya's topic in The Lounge
> food waste specialist (founder of [www.thekitchenrevolution.co.uk]) from which: "This is the life-saving cookbook you've been waiting for." Not wasting food at home is easy. You don't throw it away. You eat it. If you want to do a useful documentary, look at the psychology and economics of commercial wastage. -

To the person who crashed into my parked car last night
ianr replied to sfmrs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

> USB socket for my phone is knackered so I can neither charge or connect to a computer I assume not a damaged cable; so physical damage, or gunge? From quick searches, both seem remediable. Socket replacement obviously comes at a cost, unless you've got the right repair skills.

Possibly heuristic questions: 1. What has led to your thinking of buying a new desktop? 2. What points seem particularly relevant, irrelevant or worrying to you if you look at any articles on choice between Mac/Windows/Linux? Personal query: I've never thought of getting a touch screen, but would assume that, if they're available to buy, there will be free or cheap drivers available to enable them to run on most existing operating systems. Is that so?

Bob (actually Bojinko) has his own company, BVAS Builders and Plumbers Ltd, set up in 2012, of which he's the sole director, and is indeed a Gas Safe registered engineer, the sole one registered for his company. His company website can be accessed via http://eltham.inuklocal.co.uk/tradesmen/builders/bvas-builders-and-plumbers-ltd-121212. I'm not keen on its corporate-like talk, especially for what is probably a small business (its registered address is a house in a residential street), or the predominant use, even in the Gallery, of bought-in stock photographs. I don't know who persuades people that this is the sort of website they ought to have, or that self-recommendations (I assume bvas is Bob) are a good idea. They create for me almost the opposite of any well-intended impression. I hope and trust that good craft and trustworthy practice can still sell themselves, through genuine personal recommendation.

LadyDeliah has a stash of cycle helmet cam takes waiting for a good editor. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1112651,1276866

> edited to say...Hmm this uploaded just fine....confusing. So did you actually successfully attach the photo to the above post, and then delete it? > It lets me get to the preview but then goes no further. I don't understand. Was it the whole post that failed to upload? In that case, I've usually found the silent rejection was due to the post's containing, maybe not obviously, some 'forbidden' word or part-word.

> The convention is to edit by deleting all the text (title and content) and replacing with a full stop, It's a lot more helpful to readers to simply supplement the title of the opening thread by adding such as "sold" or "found". If you routinely delete the content of posts you also run the risk of people wondering what you are trying to hide and why. It's probably best reserved for those occasions when, very soon after posting, you realise that your post would have been better left unsaid.

> It's only picking up DVB channels and not Freeview or Freesat, and I've > got no HD channels. Do I need a dish for this or is DVB actually Freesat. DVB is just Digital Video Broadcasting. It can be eg DVB-T (terrestrial, ie Freeview, signal from an aerial), DVB-S (satellite), DVB-C (cable) ... You mention Virgin, so perhaps you are using their cable service. I gather that some of their older or cheaper set top boxes don't provide HD. The same goes for Freeview boxes. Your TV may be "HD ready" rather than full HD; ie its built-in tuner doesn't pick up HD signals, though the set will presumably be capable of displaying in HD an HD signal input from an external source.
