The "pregnancy crazies"
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh dear - no it's not my husband being a chauvinist - he says it affectionately/in exasperation. I really am being total cow at times! -
I thought I had heard of most strollers on the market and currently leaning towards the Bugaboo Bee but I just came accross this Oyster stroller it seems to have a lot of the features that I am after (which the Bee has as well) seat facing both ways, compact when folded etc but at a fraction of the Bee price. Has anyonse got this stroller? Would really appreciate feedback

The "pregnancy crazies"
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My husband has his faults but mostly he is supportive, cooks and cleans and takes care of DD. But it takes very little to set me off. True he is unable to multitask - case in point the same meal will take me about 30mins to cook and it will be an hour for him. In any case, arghhhhhh! -
I am 35+1 wks today and, according to my loving husband, have entered the "pregnancy crazies" phase. What this means basically is that everything irritates me to an enormous degree and mostly it's things that he does (or doesnt do). My daughter is also making me crazy for various reasons - her tendency to not listen, take forever to do anything, cry for the most bizzare reasons (look sweetie I bought you a new coat!)... Yes I know she is only 4 and a bit. The mess in the house will probably finish me off - especially since bending down to pick things up/clean/put socks on is a huge effort. I also have two more weeks at the office and even though that is only four actual days left it feels me with rage. Am I the only one? I literally feel like I may explode.

Help: non-stop-crying snot-filled baby!
supergolden88 replied to Ko's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Put a few (or a lot!) of Olbas in the sink then run hot water until it gets really steamy in bathroom and then sit with baby (or go in the bath) for a while. Also put olbas near his pillow in cot, raise mattress. A humidifier works well too The nose aspirators work for me but I have to get them from my parents in Greece - have not found one slim enough here that works -
Does anyone know if there is a phonenumber specific to the afterschool activities at Ivydale? Can you just pop in to get a list of what's available and possibly enroll a child that does not start till January?

Recommendations needed: best baby bouncer/rocker
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for the offer but I dont want a swinging one - my daughter hated hers (we got one after she outgrew the rocker) and I think just the very basic rockers seem to get the most recommendations -
I have been having terrible heartburn /acid reflux for a few weeks now - am 35w come Friday. Sometimes I get it without even eating. It's horrendous. Rennie tablets work better for me than Gaviscon Prop yourself up on pillows at night and try not to eat too late. Small meals and often rather than big ones. Avoid fried food at all costs You sound as if you have a bad cold on top of it - there is a bad one going round. Seeing your GP cant hurt Good luck - when baby drops down it's all meant to get easier - but then again my daughter did not until I was about to push!

Silly question re: washing newborn clothing
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
In that case I may take it easy - wash the stuff that goes right on the baby's skin but not necessarily everything. I am relunctant to wash baby knitwear because if memory serves it's very easy to shrink them to unwearable sizes -
I seem to recall that you need to wash newborn baby clothes in Non Bio detergent. Quick question: do you wash all clothing even brand new clothes fresh from the shop? And do you end up washing all your laundry in Non Bio - after all you will be holding baby etc. Having a slow freelance day and trying to compile lists of things I need to buy/do before baby and I swear my brain is not working.

Last time around (4.5 years ago!) we got a Fischer Price basic rocker handed down to us and my daughter used it for quite a while. It had vibration/songs and a toy arch. It did not recline however so I am not sure it is suitable for a newborn. My daughter did sleep on it but mostly she sat and rocked in it and chewed the toys to bits. I had a look online and I am amazed at the range of bouncers on the market. I would like one that is suitable from birth I think. Would love some recommendations as even the ones I like the look of (Chicco, Cossato) get very mixed reviews on the various websites.

Congratulations he is beautiful! Cant wait to meet him and see you again hope you are doing well Hugs! -
Are you sure they are tension headaches and not migraines? Have you noticed any pattern to them (do they come when you are premenstrual, stressed etc.) You may be able to determine a "trigger" and try to avoid it. I used to get migraines every month and they were connected with the Pill - I stopped taking it and they stopped. Although I have had lots of tension headaches/migraines during my current pregnancy especially the first few months. Definitely a hormonal connection there. Another thing that causes tension headaches for me is teeth grinding at night so perhaps check with your dentist. I find I do it a lot when stressed and sometimes wake up because my head hurts so much! Sorry I cant help except to sympathise. THere is something called a migrastick (from Health Shop on Lordship Lane) which helped with my headaches and it's purely essential oils. Better than paracetamol in my case Good luck

I need to update my daughters wardrobe as it full or half outgrown stuff, unsuitable summer clothes and so on. She starts at Ivydale in January and I am told there is a uniform althought I dont know what it is. And having not beeen schooled in this country I have no experience of school uniforms in general. Do you buy everything through the school? Can the children only wear specific colours? I dont want to buy lots of girly/colourful autumn clothes if she can only wear them on weekends! Does the colour scheme (if there is one) extend to shoes/tights etc?

Well if you need any stuff designed (ads or cards or whatever) give me a shout Lucy

Are you doing market research or just curious? I read everything once but the design is usually really bad and editorial not much better. Most of these magazines seem constructed around what (little) advertising they can get

Do you ask for seat on train/bus?
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Funnily enough I have one of the budges on my bag. But my belly could not be mistaken for anything but pregnancy I look like I have swallowed a massive ball -

I think I wont hesitate to ask next time rather than get worked up about it
