(Probaby stupid) question about feta cheese
supergolden88 replied to Vickster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The eternal feta question... Yes some is not pasturised and I have had some trouble finding some in the UK that specifies that it is. I think I got one in Waitrose that was in a small plastic tub - can't remember the brand. I would say if you buy prepackaged feta in Greece it should say on it (in English as well as Greek) whether it is pasturised. This is probably the brands that are exported here. Dont buy from the barrel I would suggest. In Greek pasturised = pasteriasmeni (feta) -
One of the options I am considering for baby no2 is nanny care (shared or otherwise). Can a nanny look after babies close in age - say a 3 month old and a 7 month old?

Sleep with newborn - if you had it to do over again
supergolden88 replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have been wondering the same thing myself having had a baby that did not sleep through till 13/14months (she woke up every night. A lot). Now due with second end of October I have been reading all my manuals again and I have to put in a recommendation for this one Baby Secrets http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-Secrets-Know-Babys-Needs/dp/071814709X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1282049628&sr=8-1 It has a routine that is a guideline only and not set in stone like Gina's and it just seems sensible advice all round. Putting baby down awake seems to be the biggest secret around and I know it's almost impossible to do. But if I had to revisit my mistakes from four years ago I would say rushing in to pick baby up the minute they make a noise is definitely not something I would do again. And I will try to avoid breastfeeding to sleep past the first couple of months as I think my daughter used it as soothing well past the time she needed the milk. -
I am making a list of stuff I need before baby no2 arrives end of October and was wondering if anyone can recommend a sling or carrier that would allow me to breastfeed while being hands free. I never had one the first time around except for a BBjorn carrier. I am not sure I would be good with ones that need complicated wrap arounds...

6 months pregnant - how to survive the final 3?

autumn babies club-next meet up cafe nero this sunday?
supergolden88 replied to millsa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can probably make it - 10am? -
No way should you spend ?55 on a book though no matter how good it is. Look for other editions/on other websites I think you need to bring the daytime naps to a consistent (not too late) rhythm and then tackle nights. Let us know how it goes...

Oh dear - I really feel for you it sounds very tough! My daughter did not sleep through until we sleep trained her at 13months - up till then it was up 2-4 times a night and I was a wreck. I know you said you did sleep training but can you go into it a bit more? I did it early on and it did not work and only when got hold of "Solve your child's sleep problem" and read through it did I feel ready to do it properly. As long as baby eats properly and is not sick etc it should work. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Solve-Your-Childs-Sleep-Problems/dp/1405319674/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281440301&sr=8-2 Dont ask me why it's selling for so much money - maybe it's out of print? Maybe sleep is priceless? In any case you can borrow my copy if you want (but I will need it back as am expecting baby no2 in October!) If you go to Channel 4oD you can watch "Can't sleep" doc (someone on forum mentioned it I watched it yesterday. Two supposedly opposing experts are solving sleep issues. But when it really comes down to it they are both sleep training) http://www.channel4.com/programmes/who-knows-best/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1 Best of luck - it will get better!

6 months pregnant - how to survive the final 3?
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Well the cold is thankfully going away VERY slowly so I feel bit better. Heartburn still here with a vengeance - sometimes I get it just by having lost of water! Swimming has helped and I hope to keep going. THe thing I have noticed (apart from being as big at 6 months as I was at 8-9 months with previous pregnancy) is I get the occasional day where the baby seems to grow and suddenly my ribs seem to expand more and I find it impossible to breathe. -
THis is bringing so many memories back I am not sure I can watch. And watching at 29wks pregnant maybe not best idea...
-
I am trying to watch now... Funilly enough a friend paid for one of the experts featured on show to sleep train her daughter who was having no naps at all during the day. THat was years ago but I think it worked for her

Some positive birth stories at Kings, please.
supergolden88 replied to Fidgetsmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have nothing but positive memories from my daughter's birth at Kings four years ago and am due to give birth there again end of October. I too hated staying in the maternity ward afterwards (overnight) however - too hot, too loud, food terrible etc. So if I can manage it I will try to get out of there soon as baby is out and ok! A word of warning - dont park your car anywhere near a meter if you can help it. Labour can take a long time and the last thing on your mind is to feed the meter - our car was towed and we had to pay ?200 to get it back! -

oh dear I wish I caught you earlier! I have found the lego boxes on Amazon cheaper - not in stock but can preorder. I was too late to cancel my order http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lego-Storage-Brick-8-Blue/dp/B003NE5L90/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1280838360&sr=8-32 -
Autumn babies club: park meet up
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would agree about picnic but the picnic area has no toilets nearby - and I have been stuck there with a toddler needing a poo - not fun! Also it seems to me not as many of us are coming on saturday and if we sat outside at the cafe we should be ok -
Autumn babies club: park meet up
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
So just to clarify we are meeting at the Cafe 11am on Saturday 7th -
It has been lovely meeting some of you at the Autumn Babies club meet at Cafe Nero and most supportive reading the posts on the forum. I was just wondering if there are any mums to be out there that are closer to me - in SE15 Nunhead/near Peckham Rye park area. As this is my second pregnancy I dont plan to do any antenatal/NCT classes but it would be very useful to meet mums nearby and get a tea group going. I am still friends with most mums I met through the NCT tea group with my daughter but that was four years ago and most have had second babies long ago! Let me know - am due end of October...
