Do you ask for seat on train/bus?
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would not expect or ask a seat if I did not actually really need one. I just expect a little common courtesy - I always offer (when not hugely pregnant) if someone looks like they need it (be it someone old, carrying kids, injured, disabled, too young etc) I find people who in a crowded train insist on putting their bags on seats and then ask all put out if you politely ask to sit down equally maddening -
This morning got on 8.48 train at Peckham Rye. Train was not choc full and yet EVERYONE sitting ignored my massive 7 month bump. Only an older woman (who had an injured hand no less) gave me her seat. When I asked loudly "are you sure YOU can stand up" she insisted. She was then given a seat a couple of minutes later. Througout this exchange the young and perfectly capable people sitting in the priority seats ignored me and the whole exchange. What should I do next time - push my bump in their face and demand a seat? The whole thing saddens me.

Any expectant mums in Nunhead/Peckham Rye area?
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Molly I am sure we will run into each other as my daughter is starting at Ivydale in January so I will probably be popping to the children's centre regularly. And I am around the corner from you on Fernholme Rd. Lucy -

Hi everyone - great to see some more of you near(ish) to me! We could all meet for a coffee at Peckham Rye cafe prior to babies if you like and get to know each other. Would this Monday be any good? I am generally working from home Mondays/Weds/Fridays but currently very busy with freelance work I may even try to create a Nunhead mums (or SE15/??) facebook group if you are all on facebook - seems an easy way to communicate -

supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ok that clears things up quite a bit! I assume this is the new model - it doesnt specify Bee -
Yet another question re: Bugaboo Bee
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks for the response - the Bee plus is different to Bee model? Sorry complete newbie here! -
Hi everyone - there was a thread recently about Bugaboos but I cant find it for some reason. I am considering the Bee design (even though I think the price is steep) but I am concerned about the seat. It seems so small/short that I think a baby would fit in it only when very young. Once they grow a bit do their legs just hang off - or is there a leg rest? Does anyone else this is a problem? Clearly I need to go to a shop and have a proper look but in the meantime I would appreciate any feedback.

A friend breastfed until her daughter was at least 3 if not older. When she finally decided to stop she phased out the 'regular' feeds and made sure her daughter was busy and spending some time away from her. Once she had one feed a day on her hands she explained that there was no more milk and offered alternatives. Initially there was some resistance but within a week her daughter her forgotten all about it. If you can spend some time apart then it would be easier on you I guess... Good luck

OK ladies have booked us a space for 8 people at Green and Blue on Sunday Sept 5th at 7.30 pm. Just to let you know the kitchen only stays open till 9pm and bar closes at 10pm on a Sunday. So if we could aim to get there around 7.30 and order quickly we'll be fine... Looking forward to seeing you all again! Lucy

The meeting on the 9th for first time mums-to-be is getting rather large. Would any of the ladies who have been there/done that before like to meet for an evening drink/food at Green and Blue on another day? Is Thursday Sept 2nd any good? Also thinking meeting later 8pm onwards to accomodate bedtime. I would create an event on Facebook group except I am not sure whether all of you are on there... Let me know if you are interested and I will book us the space...

I was thinking about getting the Mothercare store card as I will probably buy a lot of baby items soon. I intend to pay off all purchases immediately so only worth getting if you get any perks with it. Has anyone got one and is it worth it?

Oct/Nov first-time Dulwich mummies meet-up?
supergolden88 replied to kerry.finlay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not a first time mom but am coming to the drinks on the 9th (through facebook group). I would suggest we book because it gets very busy - the sofa area would be best. I am happy to call and book if someone gives me numbers. Also would be nice to have something to eat if that's ok with everyone? And I may (definitely will) sneak a glass of wine as well! -
(Probaby stupid) question about feta cheese
supergolden88 replied to Vickster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
On the bright side you can have feta saganaki and cooked in pies. Honestly I dont think many pregnant women in Greece (including all my friends) stop eating feta just as I dont believe that french women cut out all the restricted cheeses. Still better safe than sorry -
(Probaby stupid) question about feta cheese
supergolden88 replied to Vickster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The eternal feta question... Yes some is not pasturised and I have had some trouble finding some in the UK that specifies that it is. I think I got one in Waitrose that was in a small plastic tub - can't remember the brand. I would say if you buy prepackaged feta in Greece it should say on it (in English as well as Greek) whether it is pasturised. This is probably the brands that are exported here. Dont buy from the barrel I would suggest. In Greek pasturised = pasteriasmeni (feta) -
One of the options I am considering for baby no2 is nanny care (shared or otherwise). Can a nanny look after babies close in age - say a 3 month old and a 7 month old?
