The Gardens cafe - NOT baby friendly
supergolden88 replied to nubby'smums's topic in The Family Room Discussion
when I complained about this place yonks ago fair few jumped to the defence. Not so anymore I see. I haven't been back since -
Right I think I have figured out what my son wants for his second birthday... a fire engine with sound. There's lost of options online but the reviews tend to be pretty bad (usually toys are badly made). Any recommendations of tried and tested toys? Suitable for a 2 year old but ideally something not too babyish

Help please - 'wet' knickers on 6 year old girl
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
From complete lack of responses I gather I should take her to the GP. This is not something she has had problems with in the past it's a recent development -
I am noticing that a lot of the time my daughter's knickers are slightly damp or wet at the end of the day (or had been as smelly). I am not sure this is due to her not going to the loo in time and having small accidents or whether there's some sort of other problem. I am bringing it up here to see whether this a common phenomenon or something I should take up with the GP. She does get very distracted when playing or watching TV and I think she is a bit uncomfortable using the loo at school sometimes (afraid she will get locked in) but this has happened at home even after we remind her. We have told her time and again to make sure she goes to the loo often and to check and make sure she is dry and clean when she does (and she has spare underwear to change to at school) but it simply is not making enough of a difference. She gets very upset when cought out (and will frequently bury the evidence in the laundry basket) but the softly approach has not helped, getting angry at her after repeated incidents has not helped. Am concerned about possible irritation/infections as well as hygiene.

Winter boots for a toddler (girl)
supergolden88 replied to pilsbury's topic in The Family Room Discussion
http://www.vertbaudet.co.uk/ do some nice shoes and usually there's some discount deal going as well -
Are there any weekly (or monthly) planners out there clear enough (and appealing) for young children to follow maybe with a reward chart system build in? I could draw one up but rather it was something reusable Trying to get the 6 year old to remember school events/activities and to practice voilin/piano/do homework etc.

sounds good - a pic as reference would be good I have looked on pinterest and looks simple enough just need to get the template right

Yes I think buttercream would work - have ordered the colours. Not wild on royal icing but would probably be easier to shape for some of the elements. Was the cake a simple sponge? Raa raa is actually simpler than your cake by far!

and on the subject of birthdays... I want to create a Raa Raa cake for my son. I was thinking just the face on the cake seeing as it is round and fairly easy to recreate. Anyone have experience with this type of cake? I was thinking buttercream for the hair and royal icing for the shape of the face and ears... help!

Birthday presents for boys
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
He does not have a scooter but my daughter's micro is available (she has just about outgrown it). It is pink but so far that does not seem to bother him. He has not tried it yet but maybe we can let him have a go. Am a bit terrified he is going to just kill himself on it. Cannot remember what age my daughter started on it. -
I need some inspiration for my little boy's birthday. He is (soon to be) 2 years old. Very much into cars, trains, dinosaurs, lego etc. Likes Raa Raa, Peppa pig, Abney and Teal - not into Thomas etc. yet. Loves books but have plenty of those. I am completely ignorant when it comes to boy toys - is there anything particularly popular for a two year old? I think for my daughter's second birthday we had tons of presents but now am struggling with just the one. Would like to get him one good big present and maybe one or two smaller ones

Pelvic floor....or what's left of it
supergolden88 replied to Life After Babies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Quality of the exercises is more important than quantity. Also the pelvic floor is a muscle and it can get overfatigued. And doing 100 a day for the rest of your life is a tad unrealistic. I would say 60 is a very good number. But whatever works - I struggle to do even 10 good ones despite having very good motivators. Be careful when you do the fast ones to fully release the pelvic floor muscles before doing the next squeeze. The Hab-it DVD is very good for pelvic floor rehabilitation. You can get it on Amazon I think. -
Pelvic floor....or what's left of it
supergolden88 replied to Life After Babies's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have you checked whether you have any levels of prolapse causing this problem? Only saying this because stress incontinence was the warning bell - have since discovered I suffer from mild prolapse. I have been seeing the physio team at Kings and they are excellent - very understaffed initially but think it's getting better. I have been very lax with my pelvic floor exercises of late and have noticed worse symptoms as a result. I do think 100 contractions a day is counter productive though or so my research tells me. Can someone post links to those apps I cant find them -
After school drama/theatre groups for kids?

In the end I tried to give him a small dose of 2.5 and he threw up. I think that stupid medised is just too strong tasting and caused him to gag. In the end I tried to get him to sleep on me on the nursing chair and eventually put him in his cot and slept next to him on the floor with one hand on his back. He woke up a couple of times mostly because his fever spiked. But overall with breaks for medicine, nose sucking and rocking he slept bit better than previous night. I am REEKING of olbas and viks having put it on my chest so he would breathe it in when I cuddled him and am sore all over.

My son (just shy of 2 years) has a horrendous cold. Came on very quickly and suddenly and he is a MESS. Streaming nose /blocked nose, coughing, bit of fever, terrible mood, no appetite and next to no sleep at all. Last night he managed maybe an hour (broken up) between 10pm-4am. We have some Medised in the house (my daughter is 6) and in desperation I want to give him some. I know the guidelines changed and it is not given to under 6 but when my daughter was a baby it was given from 6 months(?). Any thoughts?

Sippy cup for a bottle lover
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's relief to know he is not alone in this. I guess I will stop worrying about it... Lord knows I have enough other stuff to worry me. Thanks ladies! -
My son turns two in a couple of months and he is still having his milk from a bottle. He is finally having whole milk to drink but I just did not have the strength to have the 'drink from a cup' battle with him. He drinks from cups and glasses just fine but likes his milk warm and from a bottle. Any recommendations about which sippy cup is most like a bottle and less likely to be rejected outright?

thanks - she is 6 years old and her leotard which is 6-8 is too small. She is petite though so I just think the leotards run quite small I can pass on her leotard and wraparound skirt - purple colour if anyone wants them

Can anyone recommend a website for reasonably priced ballet clothes and shoes? My daughter has outgrown her uniform and I need to get something quickly (and cheaply) I was wondering if we should set up a ballet clothes exchange on the forum. There are so many little ones doing ballet and usually the clothes are outgrown quickly (if only because they seem to run quite small in the first place)

Greek speaking parents/toddlers?
supergolden88 replied to sylviamaria's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am Greek but have lived in the UK since I was 18. My husband's Canadian. I have been here so long (and have no Greek friends here) that I have completely forgotten how to speak Greek fluently. It comes back when I visit. Apart from kalimera and kalinikta my daughter does not know any Greek. I imagine if she spend a few months in Greece she would pick it up quite quickly. I have a DVD if anyone wants to borrow it - but it is remarkably basic and not very useful -
Interesting thread at mumsnet - I too get weather triggered headaches/migraines I get the auras too (floating lights in my vision) but again not necessarily linked to migraines. Bet being stuck in front of computer all day long does not help What is really weird is that I had a terrible earache yesterday evening/through the night which someone on mumsnet suggests is migraine related
-
I went through seeing various doctors years ago when I first had the migraines. I used to take medication that worked quite well but have forgotten the name - it melted on the tongue I remember that. Not one of them suggested it may be the pill (hormones) causing them even though I only got them when I got my period. Eventually a lot of personal research led me to that conclusion and when I stopped taking the pill I stopped having them Right now it is again linked with my period and feels like a permanent really bad tension headache. When it is particularly bad - last night after a very busy day - I feel completely sapped of energy and just nauseous and weak. I don't seem to get migraines any other time (so should count myself lucky. I will try the aspirin trick tomorrow if it is still bad
