my old friend the hormonal migraine is making a big comeback and rendering me useless. I started having monthly migraines ages ago whilst on the pill (partly why I had to stop taking it) they went away for years but now back and getting worse... any tips on what to take /do to make this go away? I have been taking paracetamol round the clock but it's not doing anything

Transporting cakes or cupcakes
supergolden88 replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi ryedalema borrowing the carrier would be fab - will PM you -
Have signed up to bring cake to daughter's end of year class pic nic. Love to bake so I thought I would make cupcakes (easier to eat at a pic nic) but now am wondering how on earth I can transport 30+ cupcakes without smooshing them. Any ideas? Should I just give up and buy some traybakes at Sainsbury's? Don't want to make anything more sensible as I signed on for cake and my daughter mentions it hourly

Super clingy boy - tell me this is a phase

I especially love the 'fling yourself to the floor, hide face in hands' tantrum. It makes me laugh. My daughter never had a tantrum in her life - counting myself lucky retroactively. -
Super clingy boy - tell me this is a phase

I wonder why it's just mummy clinging though. He adores his dad but he saves the hysterics for me. Yesterday was planning to go for a run and he literally wrapped himself around my legs and would not let go. I worry he is sick because he never used to act this way (except when ill) He started having tantrums at 18 months so there's also a lot more of that to look forward to. -
My son is just over 20 months. He goes to nursery full time, is very independent, super stubborn, gets along really well with other toddlers and generally very happy. In the past few weeks however he started becoming incredibly clingy towards me (and me alone). He is ok going to nursery, out with his dad etc. but if I am in the room he will not let me out of his sight. Burst into tears, follows me round, literally clings to my legs. If his dad tries to distract him he will push him away. Started when he was a bit under the weather but it's now nearly a month and he's still very much a mama's boy. While I love the extra hugs it's becoming impossible for me to make dinner or do anything unless I am holding him. Please tell me this a phase? I don't recall anything similar with my daughter certainly not when she was a toddler but it may a case of selective memory

I have various items I would like to sell (having given away tons of stuff to charity/nursery/school fair). Mostly kids clothes, toys, maternity clothes, various clothes/shoes but also some household items etc. Am toying with the idea of a tabletop sale - but have never gone to one not sure how to go about it. Do people usually do it at their house? With the weather being so awful it would be tricky to do it outside If you have any ideas or perhaps other sales I could be part of please let me know. Would love to empty some of the clutter. Used to sell lots of stuff through the forum but lately there's either no interest or a lot of no-shows.

For couple of days, high fever last night ended up in A&E again... Throat and ears and lungs all fine but something points to tummy upset (very gassy and clearly uncomfortable). Still need to collect urine in case it is an infection but that's easier said than done... Operating on two hours sleep and have no idea what it could be. Any ideas? Taking to GP again soon as I can get an appointment... He is 20 months. No fever since it spiked last night (fingers crosses) and he absolutely refuses to take calpol (usually he is very accomodating about medicine unless it's yucky antibiotics).

Beauty products/ remedies you swear by..

Recently tried some of these products http://www.etatpur.co.uk/ I am not disciplined enough to use daily /properly but so far have found them easy to use and not expensive. I keep meaning to go and buy more (only got an eye serum, daily tinted moisturiser which is great, resveratrol serum and gel cleanser also fab). First order delivery is free and they send samples too -
The recipe differs so much if you google it. Made these today http://instagr.am/p/MTX04OA65Q/ but although they look great they are not sweet enough and a bit too puffy. Mind you, first time making a bread type recipe so not terrible. Used a mix of plain 60% and 40% wholegrain Spelt flour also has anyone seen ground cardamom for sale anywhere?

My daughter turned 6 recently and her big present was a cabin bed. She took some convincing to move to a new room at the back of the house and away from our bedroom but had her first night yesterday and all went well (as she very proudly woke up to tell me at 5 am). I need some ideas about making her room pretty and functional. We have the bed of course but need a large rug, new curtains and any other little touches. The bed has a small desk, shelves etc. (it's this one http://www.gltc.co.uk/fcp/product/-/bedroom_furniture_midsleeper_bunk_beds/Reece-Midsleeper-Cabin-Bed---White/10000002983) While she is rather girly now I don't want to go full on girly as I don't want the room to date too quickly!

Before I panic and go find a job...
supergolden88 replied to sarahew's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The flexible childcare issue is a hard one. When I first went freelance 6 years ago I first put my daughter in nursery 3 days a week and then looked for work. Once I had enough she went to nursery full time. With my son I did not take a 'maternity' break so I kept on freelancing. At first it was when he napped and in the evenings and once he was a little older I employed a couple of nannies on an ad hoc basis just for 3-4 hours. I found a lovely nanny through this forum who worked school hours (so she was available only 10am-2pm) and she helped me out a few times. A friend's nanny who was in between jobs also did an occasional few hours. But this was a very stressful arrangement for me as I was working from home and the nanny/my son was also at home (and I was still breastfeeding). I breathed a sigh of relief when he eventually went to a childminder 3 days a week (at 10 months). The childminder lived 2 minutes from my house so I could pick up early if I did not have much work on etc. Not sure if this was helpful! If you can find a local childminder/nanny who does not mind being flexible then that is a good option. Depends on the age of your daughter as well. -
I wonder how many people who were thinking about a side extention when this thread started have actually completed one. I am desperate to sort my kitchen out (and a side extention would be the ideal) but have to convince my husband. We have lived in our house for 8 years and although we have replastered and put in new sash windows throughout and done many other improvements we still have a horror of a kitchen inherited from previous owners. Our neighbours had a side extention done a few years ago (through PlusRooms) so the party wall is already in place.

Now that I am working from home again (hurray!) I find myself snacking constantly just because I have access to lots of food. I need some ideas for healthy and easy lunches and especially snacks. I am trying to keep an eye on what I am eating so need healthy food that will keep me full and away from biscuits and cakes. Ordering stuff online seems best way to keep on track so give me some ideas. For lunches I have been eating a lot of grilled chicken breasts with quinoa salad but it is getting a little old...

hmm his is hard, not soft. Feels like a bump when you hit your head. I sort of have something similar but not as pronounced. He was examined very early on because his fontanelle was almost non-existant but the doctor then said she did not think it was anything to worry about and that his head was growing ok (but he was very young probably around 4m and has not been checked since). I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I have noticed a noticeable 'lump' for lack of better word on back of 19m old son's head. It's really hard to say whether it was always there or brand new - perhaps it was but not as noticeable. He hasn't bumped his head there recently. It is in the middle just a bit down from the crown. I am worried now. Anyone have experienced anything similar?

Would you recommend this and if so which product should I get and where from? Amazon has them but reviews are very mixed... I need to put away some large duvets etc.

9 months on 9 months off?
supergolden88 replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went into Kings today to take part in a renal study about whether exercise is beneficial to patients with CKD (chronic kidney disease). I was measured on one of those machines that read your fat, muscle etc ratios. I was rather shocked that all my readings (apart from waist to hip ratio - hello, I am a woman) were in the normal range. I am so pleased. Last time I was measured on one of those machines I was about 20w pregnant and predictably all the readings were in the obese range. I think it said I needed to lose about 20 kilos. They also measured my athletic ability on a stationary bike but not sure what those readings were. They are going to check them again in 6 months to see if there's improvement. So despite baking non stop and eating cakes, cupcakes and my weight in butter lately (due to my daughter's birthday) I have not gained very much if any weight. Huge motivator to continue exercising and going back to sensible eating. Now fingers crossed that I am put in the 'exercise' group of the renal trial. Provided my weird spotting/period anomalies turn out to be nothing serious. I wish I could go one day without major health worrying(= my olympic sport according to my husband). -
Can I ask what type of tests you have had? Having a (second) smear on friday as first a few months ago was inconclusive. Spotting with menstrual type cramping today. Really getting me down. I have enough health issues as it is don't need more to worry about!
-
Sorry for the rather TMI question. Lately I have been experiencing spotting between periods usually mid cycle. Ranges from light to almost period like. I am a few months shy of forty. Never had this before, periods very regular. Am freaking out slightly and going for a smear on Friday. Anyone else had this? Is it likely to be pre-menopause?

You can use Handbrake software to convert dvd files into mp4 files and then you can add those to an ipad or iphone through itunes just by dragging the files into 'movies' sorry not sure whether that works in windows
