BBW, camper vans are terrifically popular amongst the dance music fraternity, and they carry really fab sound systems around with them. Some are so OTT that they get shut down at festivals owing to annoyance to thousands of others. You can have a fab sound system on a bicycle actually (witness Critical Mass).

The "Classics"...a game of culinary trumps
louisiana replied to woofmarkthedog's topic in The Lounge
The ideal would perhaps be Elizabeth David's classic French omelette but with fewer ingredients. So 'An Omelette and a Glass of Wine' would become... ehem, a glass of wine :-S -

The camper is the core, but it's even cramped for two if you have nothing else. The nice thing is you do have a few services on board, including an all-important power source for a sound system.

Having taking a look at the photo of the guy on the Pickwick website, I feel I wouldn't trust the guy with ?4.20, let alone 42k. Good luck!

Ah, not surprised I missed it then: I'd only ever go to that sector of the Plough junction during shop hours if I needed to visit the sub post office counter, which isn't that often these days.

ontheedge Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thats a shame I liked that shop they seemed to > have most things and reasonably priced It was generally quite good, but I went in recently for some phone fittings and the (different?) guy in there was a complete dope and didn't appear to have much in the way of stock so I walked away empty handed.

Almost felt tempted to put it on, then my f**king Mac went and ate a CD and wouldn't spit it out, so I've been embroiled with that for 40 minutes. Grrr. But sorted now.

What's the most revolutionary thing you've ever done?

Tanks. Which is conceptually 'heavy artillery'. In my books at least. -
The shop (next to Lloyds Bank) was empty of goods and furniture today. Looks like they've shipped out or shut down (?) Any news of what might be opening up?

I'm just popping out, does anyone want anything from the shop?

What's open shops-wise at this hour PinkyB? -

There was a lot a squatting going on in Amsterdam with many major buildings occupied in the city centre. And lots of evictions with major artillery too. So it was really just a solidarity thing. -

Spoiled ballots are counted, but the figure doesn't generally appear anywhere of any consequence other than the piece of paper with the declaration of votes cast, so such a gesture won't really be noticed. Better to vote for somebody.

The idiots who keep on digging up the same stretch of LL, adjacent to Upland Road bus stop. This bus stop has been out of action on and off since last October. They're at it again this week. There's late night drilling, a few kerb stones go in, and then they vanish yet again, leaving the bus stop out of operation for a few more weeks perhaps.

"On 30 April 1980, Beatrix became Queen of the Netherlands when her mother abdicated." We were running around town, spraying 'no housing, no crowning' in support of Dutch squatters on the Dutch embassy and airline office. Those were the days when students did mad stuff... Black cab driver shopped us, and cops (Black Maria) caught up with us on Cambridge Circus. Detained overnight at Vine Street nick (cell walls disgusting with sh*t and blood) and up in front of the beak at now defunct Bow Street. Inspector objected to bail for the reason cited. Perhaps a bit of a classic in the annals of bail forms. The four of us were sent of to three different jails until after the coronation. One of my co-conspirators was brother of MP Jeremy Corbyn. I think it was his sister who visited me, and had the copy of Spare Rib she tried to bring me confiscated by the prison authorities (though I understood there were no problems allowing porn mags into Brixton prison). For a while I shared a cell with two 14-yr-old runaways from a children's home. Fascinating insight into a women's prison. -

Dozens of painted ladies in the garden this week. And on butterflies, has anyone ever seen a Camberwell Beauty in the area? "The name originated from the discovery of two individuals at Coldharbour Lane in Camberwell in August 1748" (Wikipedia) Just back from Turkey, where the density of insect life (and other wildlife) seems so much greater than in the UK...

Nero, there should be some around, but like you I haven't seen any. London Bat Group run bat surveys, and have equipment for detecting them...

What I like about this flash camping is that you say I'm going to do something, and you don't think 'I can't change anything'. Making your view known will influence so many others, who will maybe get brave too. It's viral, it's insidious, it really does influence others. Say what you think! And have fun while you're doing it! -

Actually it's a funny confusion, 'cos I've just been writing about straw bale houses. Totally Freudian! Thanks PeckhamRose and BBW. I'm feeling old before my time (49 last week!!), but inclining to return to revolutionary roots, be they urban or rural. What goes around... One of these days, I shall get around to framing that refusal of bail form, and it will inspire me every day. -

That was of course bail, not bale. Silly me :-S Though I am finding myself increasingly drawn to the rural these days... -

Physically pinning a High Court summons on the shoulder of the head of housing at the Tory GLC (pre-Livingstone), after he'd hidden behind lawyers and security guards all afternoon. But perhaps not that revolutionary, given that I was appealing to the law of the land, so to speak. Occupying a 48-flat GLC council block? (same case) Or perhaps serving 3 days in Holloway with a refusal-of-bail form reading 'reason for refusal of bale: crowning of Queen Beatrice' Who knows....
