  5. I will be complaining too. There is a thread on twitter regarding more pollarding by Southwark in Bermondsey, and there is a video of them pollarding a tree with a live nest! According to the Twitter thread, as a result Southwark have confirmed that ALL Pollarding will cease until November. I really don't understand why pollarding needs to occur in (late) Spring... surely it should only happen from late Autumn to Winter anyway? Is this just rogue contractors generating revenue by insisting it needs doing?
  6. We had our car broken into last week, Tyrrell Road Car cleaned out, nothing of value, but took everything including a charity donation box of clothes!! We have a 'keyless entry' car, so am fully ware of the security issues with this. Am thinking of getting a steering wheel lock We simply assumed that following the theft we'd stupidly left the car unlocked for the night I guessed that if they'd had a reading of the keyless code that they'd have just stolen the car.... am i wrong??? if we didn't leave the car unlocked, how did they get in and why wouldn't they have stolen the car??? Incidentally i hate the keyless feature, i have no idea what problem it is trying to solve.... It just creates a security problem

I was contacted a few days ago about a suspiciois transaction on my account, only ?7 but again to Streamline Authorisation. The bank halted the transaction and their security seems to work, but cancelled my card and new one is on its way. My shortlist of potential places it was scanned was the Hindmans/Uplands Store and Barrys cashpoint!!
  8. This is ridiculous. There is a sign at the library saying HGVs should not go down Barry Rd, and to divert via Lordship Lane. But once they are going down Barry rd, the diversion is signed to go down Tyrrell, then Oakhurst, Kelmore and Gardens.

  10. Back in July, I had a letter through the door about a drop-in session which was going to occur while i was on holiday to inform residents of the upcoming work. It referred to Barry Road and Friern Road, with both being rather long roads i didn't really think much of it. We received a further letter just last week vaguely outlining the details. It is going to be 5 months of hell for anyone living near the bottom (north) end of Barry Road. I called Thames Water for more details as i missed the drop in session, asking for what would have been displayed at the session, they were unable to provide it and the chap said "a little clue for the future, anytime there is a drop-in session it is going to be a big job" !!! It is basically 5 months of various different lane closures on Peckham Rye and Barry Road between the Clockhouse and Upland Road (Barrys Store), working on a 230m section of sewer pipe. The Northbound end of Barry Road is now closed to traffic.
  11. Response from TFL "Thanks for you detailed email of 13 June about the changes bus route 12. I?m sorry for all the inconvenience caused by the overcrowding during peak time rush hour. I understand why you would be frustrated by reducing the frequency of buses operating on this route. However, changes are made according to demand. I appreciate you bringing this concerns to my attention; we value feedback from our customers to how we can improve and develop our network. We make every effort to ensure our bus services meet the demands of our customers. Usage is regularly reviewed to ensure that our bus routes provide sufficient capacity. We also closely monitor the reliability of our routes to ensure that customers receive a regular, dependable service. I have passed your email to our Network Development team who are responsible for monitoring bus network usage and implementing changes that benefit our customers. If so they?ll look to see if it?s viable to increase the frequency of the bus. If it isn?t possible to increase the frequency of the service, but there is a shortfall in capacity, they may be able increase the capacity of the bus by other means and will look into this possibility." This is 33% reduction in frequency!! Perhaps I could understand a reduction in the service outside of rush hour, but during rush hour the service is very, very busy. The new lower frequency will mean a possible 15+ minute wait of there are any delays in the service (ie. A bus is taken out, or there are heavy roadworks along the route causing heavy congestion.) Like a previous post, I am concerned that the changes made are measured on information which is not reliable. How can they measure how many people use the service when many passengers do not even touch in. There are many passengers who have bus passes or travel cards which do not require touching in or out, so how could you possibly know how many people are using the service. The suggestion of increasing the capacity of the bus itself is a totally inadequate remedy to a reduction in frequency. This is a very disappointing decision given that as a City and a borough we are supposed to encouraging people out of their cars.
  12. Number 12 Bus is being reduced from 12 buses an hour down to 8. That is a significant reduction

  14. This is ridiculous. Would you mind me asking what street you are on? I basically answered no/not sure to the CPZ survey basically because of the amount of similar types of unused dropped kerb/gates on my street, which would have had double yellows extended for 2m either side even though they haven't been used in years!
  15. Just a quick post to recommend Crown Joinery. Alex at Crown built, fitted and painted a bespoke front door for us, as requested. It is truly an excellent piece of work. They are local, based on Tyrrell Road, and Alex is a real character as well as an expert at what he does. We live close to their workshop, so this job can be viewed easily if you ask Alex www.crown-joinery.co.uk Thanks
  16. try Alex at Crown Joinery? http://www.crown-joinery.co.uk/
  17. I have read the documentation provided by Southwark and attended the drop in session at Push Studios on Saturday 26th, and been a regular viewer of this thread. Some of the points I gathered from the drop-in-session which are notable in my opinion : (Sorry if I am repeating information which has already been discussed on this thread) ? I was informed the zone will operate for the same time for the whole zone (i.e. There cannot be areas of 12-2 and other areas of 10-12, or all day). Whichever time/timing is favoured, it will be that for the whole zone. ? The zone boundary may change following the consultation (i.e. If the Northern end of the zone is in favour and the southern tip isn?t, then they may re-draw the boundary) ? They also may end up splitting the zone (this is unlikely, and this could then produce split/different timings, but would also mean different permits for the different zones) ? All dropped kerbs will receive a double yellow line extending for 2 meters either side! ? Permit Holders will not get a ?window sticker? type ticket, rather it will be monitored by a Number Plate recognition system. (i.e. Only the wardens will know who has a permit) I have a particular problem on my street with a trading estate creating huge parking pressure which the street cannot handle. This proposed CPZ would appear to solve this issue, but at what cost? I have a concerns with the implementation of so many double yellow lines where there isn?t currently a problem, it removes so, so many parking spaces, and will increase speed on certain roads (e.g. Crystal Palace Road) There are two types of ?commuter vehicles? which people seem to refer to, and I think is worth differentiating. 1. Those that drive to park near the station to then catch the train, whether that be from the transport ?black holes? which exist (such as SE East Dulwich) or people driving in from Kent (which people anecdotally talk about but I find hard to believe!) 2. Those that travel in from out of the area to work in local businesses. The former is a problem which surely must be addressed given the fact ED must be the last place in Zone 2 to not have a CPZ. The latter I do have some sympathy for, but by the same token I, like many others, am unable to drive to work because of the parking restrictions at my journeys end (not that I would want to!) Clearly other disagree, but I do personally have some doubts as to how much a Mon-Fri, 10-12 restriction would really effect the trade of businesses on Lordship Lane? The parking restrictions on Lordship Lane itself would be the same, correct (i.e. timings and bus lane etc) ? Just the side streets which are currently unrestricted which would change Herne Hill seems to thrive under a Mon-Fri, 10-12? I really am on the fence on this. My fear is if a CPZ is not implemented then the area will become a huge dumping ground for vehicles of all sorts (more than it already is) being what must be the closest are to Central London without a CPZ. The issues regarding station commuters would remain, but that would remain specific to this streets surround the area, but possible get worse, this would be amplified by the ?West Peckham? CPZ which is I would imagine is likely to go ahead. I used to live near Bellenden for many years, and there was a Parking review undertaken not long after we moved in (approx. 2004). Our small street voted for no CPZ?.and we then became the last, closest street to Peckham Rye Station without a CPZ and parking soon became a nightmare. I would be amazed if an all day restriction has support. If a CPZ is to go ahead then surely it can only be 2 hours per day, Mon-Fri to deal with the issues that supposedly need fixing? Anything further would be overkill. If the CPZ is inevitable, then it is worth getting right.

Zebedee Tring Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Perhaps I can repeat the question that I asked > earlier in this thread, namely is it being > proposed that there should be double yellow lines > either side of dropped kerbs throughout the > borough and not just in CPZs?? No, my understanding is that double yellow will be implemented across all dropped kerbs (+2M either side) within the CPZ. This would not be retrospectively applied to established dropped kerbs outside the CPZ. Of course any NEW dropped kerbs approved do get the double yellow treatment anywhere within the borough.
  19. This is another ridiculous over development. The parking in the area is already terrible (predominantly due to the trading practices of the business residents of the Trading Estate) and this clearly hasn't been take into account. I simply do not believe the results of parking survey in the application. Southwark have already approved a development on a Back garden on Barry Road, Application reference 17/AP/3128 The development is on a property on Barry Road, although the new 'House' will actually be on Tyrrell Road. ... just 2 houses on Tyrrell Road were consulted!
  20. I don't know anyone that does other than one of the businesses from the trading estate whose camera covers the entrance, so very much doubt that would help. It depends where it was parked. They all "store" their vehicles on Tyrrell and all the surrounding streets (Ferris and Hindmans)... ridiculous really. So unless East Dulwich Campers know, remember or declare where the vehicle was parked I am not sure where you can concentrate your efforts. Are Genevieve's insurers not paying out because it was under the care of East Dulwich Campers??
  21. No, parking your customers vehicles in the street does not count as 'trading' in the street. Amazingly, such Motor Traders can use the street to store an infinite amount of vehicles, as long as they are taxed and insured and they are not actually being repaired on the street. As a Tyrrell road resident I can confirm that parking is a bit of a nightmare. The street simply cannot handle the parking demands of the storage of vehicles of the 3 different Motor Trade related businesses operating out of the trading estate, plus the employees of the various businesses, plus the natural parking demands of the residents of the street. So sorry to hear about your loss of what is no doubt a treasured vehicle. I have some friends with camper vans and realise how special they are to the owners. Unfortunately, living on Tyrrell Road, I have slowly grown to hate them! I have always wondered how a customer would feel if a vehicle was stolen (or badly damaged) while under the 'care, custody and control' of the Motor Traders there, where in reality the vehicles are just stored on the street. Also where exactly that would leave the owner and trader in respect of such a loss and the insurance implications? I knew there was a new "owner" of the Camper Van business and that Oliver had moved on recently, I didn't realise about the liquidation and debts. Just looked at the list of creditors, pretty terrible stuff.
  22. Now that North Dulwich has had a CPZ implemented, is it fair to say that East Dulwich is unique in not having a CPZ? (if not in Zone 2, then certainly in the area) Parking seems to be a problem for any street in and around East Dulwich Station and any street which has specific local demands which are higher than the capacity of the street. I live on Tyrrell Road and would support a CPZ 100%.... many of the residents I know would too. However, I would say that much of East Dulwich does not have a major parking problem. The soon to be implemented borough wide junction protection programme which extends double yellow lines to ALL junctions for 7.5m in the whole of Southwark will certainly reduce capacity and increase demand for parking, it may well increase demand for a CPZ. I still find it odd that someone would drive to ED Station to park and catch a train from there. How far away do you have to live to justify driving where a bus or another station wouldn't be a better option? Do people really drive to catch a train from Zone 2 rather than Zone 3 to save money on train fair?
  23. When 2 trees on our road were removed I enquired about them being replaced, I was told it would be done during the 'Winter Planting Schedule' of 2014/15. When it didn't happen, I chased and eventually got this response (in October 2015)from Ernst Erasmus - Southwark Council Arboricultural Officer - Highways "We have recently adopted a new tree planting policy whereby the location needs to adhere to certain criteria. One of these is that the footpath (excluding the kerb) needs to be a minimum of 2.2 m in width. Unfortunately your road doesn?t conform to this criteria and therefore the council will not replace these trees." If that policy continues forever then eventually there will be no trees at all on any roads where the footpath (excluding the kerb) is less than 2.2 m in width!

    Bin woes

JRK This thread is close to my heart This must be a goo 6-8 years ago now, but within days of them being delivered I complained to the council about the colour of the Blue Bins. Waste and recycling is is a huge and growing sector. I totally understand the need for the 3 types of bins and the logistics of waste collection.... but the colour? The blue is disgusting! Why not black, or dark blue or any number of colours? That bright, light blue is such an eyesore.
