  1. I think what a lot of people are missing here is that the guy was following her, then she stopped, forcing him to walk on then she went in a different direction to get away from him and he was running up the street (with his suitcase) straight at her. This IS scary, whether or not his is a nut job or needs locking up is not really what the poster was trying to judge, she was just (kindly) informing women to be cautius. Also there is a BIG difference between giving a woman flowers who you haven't met and running at someone and creepely saying you like their boots..... Having been attacked in the street at 6pm at night (with people round the corner) before I know how terrifying it is. Yes she got away ok, but this is threatening behaviour and it is good to highlight it.
  2. Ok-another cyclist going to add my two-pence-worth... The world needs cyclists- ok quite a dramatic statement but hear me out- we need to find alternatives to petrol fueled transport... bikes are brilliant, they are cheap, easy to run, easy to operate, healthy, carbon neutral (the running of them is anyway) and they are small and do not take up much space on our roads. As a cyclist in London (of course I am a brilliant and consierate one) I have to say that we do come in for a lot of greif from people and yes people jump the lights and go on pavements but we also put up with constantly being cut up, shouted at, padestrians waliking out in front of us without looking (or even worse looking and seeing us and still crossing so we have to stop/break to avoid hitting them). The cycle rutes in London are TERRIBLE (this is no understatemet) I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER allow a child of mine to cycle on the roads - it is very dangerous.... you might be wondering why I bother to still cycle if I feel it is so bad, and that is because I believe in the greater cycling good.. we must encourage more people to cycle, we must make the roads safer for cyclists, we must make more cycle lanes, we must start to be nicer to cyclists and stop going on about how awful they are..... once you do all of these things then all of a sudden cylists will start to respect you back and the world will be a better place.... Especially in London do we need to embrace cycling as a main form of transport.... we cannot continue with our petrol fuled days.... So for all you non cyclists out there, try it, even if just for a day.... and then you can pass judgement (BTW I do not agree with cycling dangerously on pavements without respect for padestrians)
  3. Just seen- Jenny Elair, at the top of dog Kenal Hill - DRIVING to Sainsbury's- yes she is that Eco friendly!!!
  4. Sean, Good point, and for some I am sure you are right, however if you take out of the equasion showering at home, then it is only a little longer to get dressed twice.... weather you shower at work or at home it is only another 10 mins and I know I save 30 mins each way so I know even with the extra 10 mins I am still saving 40 mins a day. Personally I only bother showering in the summer when it's really hot because I don't get that hot, but I am very lucky to have the choice. Plus the time not spent waiting for bus/train.... sweating away in a crammed bus/train.... and generally the energy it gives you to cycle far outweigh any downsides. Believe me I work in Fashion and my cycling look is not a cool look but it's worth it!
  5. Just to add my two pence worth.... My brother in law lives in Bangkok and not that this gives me any authority over Tahi food but I have eaten it all in Thailand - street food, beach food, corner cafes, regular restaurant and really posh restaurants.... the TCC is great, good food every time, (more authentic and cheaper than Sima Thai) good value for money and yes perhaps the service is not the most amazing in the world but is isn't anything to complain about. I have to say though that it is actually very authentic, it is like eating in someone's front room, which is exactly how restaurants are in Thailand, especially with the pictures of the royal family on the wall!!! great place and really reminds me of Thailand every time I go...
  6. Hi All, I cycle to Covent Garden evey day (unless I am out drinking in central London) and it takes me 30 mins - it is about 5.6 miles or something like that. I cycle up the woolworth rd, elephand and castle, over waterloo bridge and I am here! Woolworth road is actually not that bad, it is quite wide and has bus lanes so there is always plenty of space for cars and me! I would NEVER dream of cycling through any of the back roads/ burgess park, you only have to see the incident signs for 'woman seriously sexually abused with small child' sign once to put you off that for life. The worst bit of the journey is the E&C round about- I was not seen by a coach this morning and have has 'issues' with bendy busses in the past but all in all I have now worked out where to cycle on every bit of it and I understand the lights etc so it is OK although I could do without it. I wouldn't not cycle now, I took the 176 yesterday and it took 25 mins before the bus even arrived- I would be home in that time if I had to wait every day- cycling rocks!! If only there were no coach, mini cab and bus drivers on the roads and we would all be fine!! If anyone is thinking about it and is not sure go for it- DKH is great to get you going in the mornings- it is not as steep as it looks either!
  7. Ok so I finally managed to go to the Magnolia last night in the hope of perhaps a bit to eat / some drinks etc. Well all I can say is that Magnolia is the perfect name for the place, bland and just not quite right.... another off white shade and I would love it, but like the colour this place has missed the mark, so close but just horrible! Far too many tables, that are too big, there should be nice sofas/ seating around the front at least, and perhaps some at the back where the round seats used to be... What is the point of having a pizza oven and not doing pizza??- what a waste- the pizza's were the only reason I went in there when it was the Magdala before and now I have no reason. Staff pounce on you because there are not enough people and don't know that they are working in a PUB and not a restaurant. Food is far far far too expensive (?11 for saussage and cus cus!!) and they only offer 4 choices for main courses, poor effort!!! Nothing sounded or looked good enough for Mr F & myself to try so we went to the (lovely) Liquerish instead. Also Very expensive- ?7.50 for a pint and a cider..... this is NOT central London! I am really really dissapointed, I never really like the style of the Magdala but loved their pizza and seeing as they are 2 mins from my house we would go in there a bit.... The new owners have spent too much time choosing wallpaper and not enough thinking about the atmosphere- go to the Gowlett, The Hearne, Licquish, and see that atmosphere out weighs wallpaper choice when customers are voting with their feet as to where to go. And whilst I am on the subject, why have they not bothered to try to cheer up the front garden? all that effort inside but they have done nothing outside, and all it would take would be a nice fence/some plants and a bit of effort with the tables.... All in all what a missed opportunity! This is a real shame as I really wanted to love it but I was so dissapointed. Thankfully there are plenty of other places to go to so I don't have to go again!!! Looks like Franklins is our new local!
  8. Brilliant night, more evenings like this please....! So good to watch a film outside, especially such a good film. Blankets and cuddling up just made it better.
  9. Hi All, Just to let you know that I used the Barkelys bank ATM this morning (the one on the corner) and it had a thing over the card slot- then I checked all the other Barkleys ones and they did not have this thing. I cancelled my card straight away and I would suggest that you all avoid this ATM until the bank opens on Monday. Hopefully it is nothing, but better to be safe than sorry!
  10. No offence but where have all of you been that you think ?7.50 is steep to go to the cinema? it is ?8.50 to go to the Ritzy on a Friday night and it doesn't have any of the charm that being in the park will.... I think that represents good value, especially as it is a small, local company, who we should all want to support. I have voted for some like it hot as it is my favorite film of all time..... although I would watch any of them with joy!
