  1. overground to canada water jubilee to west ham c2c wham to barking
  2. Looks like the boys are setting up their stall today, lets lend our support! their probably going back to uni soon anyway.
  3. I'm well informed, I hope they will be there this week it would be such a shame if they were to be put off by the council!
  4. Do any of the other shops on Northcross Rd that have stalls or their own products on sale on the public footpath currently pay a licence fee? or have these students been singled out? Does the florist for example require a licence? Also I feel that they should be given a student rate, ?24 is still a lot of money, this is not an established business compared to say the other stalls knocking out hog roast ciabattas at ?4.50 a go! I also know that the students were not at any point offered a ?24 fee to join the main market!! this seems to be a fabrication of the truth...
  5. A hawker is a vendor of merchandise that can be easily transported; the term is roughly synonymous with peddler or costermonger. In most places where the term is used, a hawker sells items or food that are native to the area. Whether stationary or mobile, hawkers usually advertise by loud street cries or chants, and conduct banter with customers, so to attract attention and enhance sales. Ha Ha this sounds about right, think they would be proud to be referred to as hawkers! Got to love this forum and its regulars...
  6. I don't disagree but they have an agreement with the owner to sell from his land, can't see your point
  7. When I was a child the rag and bone man used to come up my mums road, Ringmore Rise the ED side of Forest Hill I have fond memories of him ringing his bell, it was a cart pulled by a horse. Could this be the same guy? were only talking roughly 20 years ago can't really remember how old I was at the time but it was a regular thing!
  8. Just wanted to lend my support to the students selling their prints outside the picture framers on Northcross Rd market today. With permission from the shop owner they have been selling some of their art work from a small stall in front of the shop whilst also promoting the framing shop. They were approached by Southwark council informing them that they would have to pay the council ?250 to continue trading there!! even though the shopkeeper owns the land, one of their reasons was that it was blocking the pavement, I can't see what the problem is, it's no different from the florist selling her flowers and displaying them out the front of the shop. I think its great that the framers were supporting these three young students. Obviously they make nowhere near enough to cover this cost I just hope they can find a way around it or that the council can see sense!! We should be supporting these young men. Maybe if the shopkeeper does a sale or return deal with them its no different to him selling his own produce outside his shop? it seems that the other market traders pay nowhere near this figure think its around ?25 (could be wrong)
  9. Congratulations, great news! you must be very happy :))
  10. Had my son at Kings in June 2009, and due to give birth to our second little boy in Oct. I had such a good experience at Kings that it's the only place I would want to give birth now! My midwife was amazing and I don't think I could have done it without her! my labour was relatively quick but the baby got stuck after 2 hrs of pushing, so had a little help to pull him out. Everyone was extremely professional. The only issue I had was down on the post natal ward, the staff during the day were friendly but I felt there was a lack of compassion for new first time mums, especially with the night staff. The communal toilet/shower area was filthy (blood on floor and toilet) needs to be cleaned more often. This time I will be discharging myself straight after the birth unless there are any complications. After 3 nights on the ward I was feeling very depressed and really needed to be at home with the support of my family. I also think that they should change their policy on fathers being able to stay overnight, after the trauma of giving birth and the shock of having this little baby dependant on me the last thing I wanted was to be alone! Its obviously a very different experience the second time round. But overall a positive experience, after experiencing complications I would choose kings over a home birth.
  11. We took our Phil and ted's to Greece last year and I got really badly damaged on the return journey, must have really got thrown about at Gatwick when unloading! managed to claim on the insurance which involved enough paperwork to put you off claiming! but could only claim ?250 per item It was the frame of the buggy that got bent, was only 4mths old couldn't open and close it properly after that. I would take a cheap one if you can or get insurance that covers the full cost, it was really handy have it with us though, even had it down the beach so baby A could sleep in the shade!
  12. Hi everyone, I'm due on the 8th Oct, seems to be a lot of Oct babies! this is my second pregnancy I also have a little boy who is 2 in June. Would love to join you on the 17th July, thanks, Anna
  13. 3 points added ?200 to my car insurance!
  14. I take my 2year old for swimming lessons at Peckham Pulse, they have a lovely hydro pool really warm for the babies, might be worth looking into, the classes are really good he's so confident in the water now.
  15. I used a girl called Kelly http://www.southlondonspraytans.co.uk/Prices.html she was very professional and comes to your home with her own pop up spray booth, like a tall tent for one! she uses Fake Bake which give a natural tan, I would have a trial before the wedding to see how dark you want to go, I'm quite pale so went for a very light spray. I would also suggest doing it a couple of days before you wedding
  16. Our ?10 Ikea chair has done the job! my little boys now 22mths, save yourself the money and spend it on something else x
  17. Hi I'm on the hunt for a maternity support band/bump band that I can wear mainly during exercising, this is my second pregnancy and I'm determined to keep the exercise regime in place (well thats the idea!! only 19wks at the moment) there seems to be a lot of them on the market so wanted to see if anyone has any good/bad experience with these bands especially during exercising? I also suffered with really bad lower back after the birth of my son, I thought something that supports the lower back and bump should help? All thoughts welcomed! thanks
  18. Dentist on Townley Rd, East Dulwich are excellent, we have been going there for years
  19. ELL extension will not open until late 2012 now
  20. my husband went stansted-porto-madrid for the 3 day trip says he had a great time, he got into the away end as well
  21. cab is ?60 i think flying to Madrid by any chance...;-)
  22. What idiot at Southwark Council came up with this idea! please put your weight behind this cause, It's not a long term solution anyway!
  23. Black woollen coat, and blue cardigan Contains wallet, keys, Darts with customised flights. My friend left it last night, and is understandably desperate to find it again!
  24. we had this exact issue! we have grown up round here currently living in a flat in Honor Oak but have just bought a renovation project in Nunhead, lovely big victorian house with three good size doubles. We couldn't find what we wanted in East Dulwich, the standard victorian houses tend to be smaller and your paying a lot more, we also love Honor Oak, great transport connections and I often walk with the buggy to ED/Peckham Rye park, or 5 min drive, but again couldn't find what we wanted! the deciding factor for us was space, were moving because we want a good size family home, so I would recommend Nunhead! in our street alone 5 families have just moved into the street it seems to be a good place to invest and the local schools are improving, were spending the extra money on a kitchen extension! For me the nicer end of Nunhead is just off Brenchly Gardens with a short walk to Peckham Rye, the streets running in between Athenlay Rd and Ivydale Rd seem to be nice quiet streets, 3 beds with 3 reception rooms. Good luck
  25. it's a typical victorian terrace with the kitchen at the back of the property opening onto the garden, the opening is going to have to be quite small as we have kitchen units either side, so a max of 180cm for the opening just about enough for the three doors! In this case would wooden ones be better, has anyone had issues with the upkeep of them? also can anyone recommend a showroom nearby? thanks again
