Halloween during COVID era
northernmonkey replied to krystalcool's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Saw this on twitter No to trick or treating, but yes to a spooky walk and giving sweets to your own kids! Halloween during COVID era
northernmonkey replied to krystalcool's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whish is why the treasure hunt thing works well - go and look for decorated houses - only those who want to decorate do it and then give the sweets you buy to your own kids rather than loads of different ones. Different but still fun and no masses of kids arriving en masse -
Halloween during COVID era
northernmonkey replied to krystalcool's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
people I know decorating houses so that kids can go out and walk round the neighbourhood looking for spooky decorations, but no trick or treating. The idea is that parents give out sweets to their own kids- eg every time they see a bat/ monster whatever you pick then you hand out a sweet or give them once you get back. Hopefully this way kids can enjoy Halloween safely outdoors but without knocking on doors and neighbours can enjoy decorating for it! -
Gosh - its like the 'gotcha' posted about James barber and his historic role on Southwark Cyclists. Newsflash moment - some people give focus to community roles and i'd imagine statistically they're more likely to participate in a number of things throughout the community. Its not a massive conspiracy! legalalien Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Rockets Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > FairTgirl Wrote: > > > -------------------------------------------------- > > > ----- > > > Rockets Wrote: > > > > > > -------------------------------------------------- > > > > > > ----- > > > > So they're closing a road at school times > > that > > > has > > > > already been closed - a double whammy!? Haha- I think you?re onto something there. Alternatively maybe they just read all the documents published by Southwark.. It?s definitely one of those things though, just hard to work out which! Back to the thread subject - the blue mountain vegan has an instagram account so maybe have a look on there - i thought it was the original blue mountain team, but might be wrong - didn't look in detail. Anyway, a vegan cafe will probably be well received and there isn't another one locally so its great. Nice to see some independents being able to move back in - hopefully that will be the up side of the empty units in that the huge rents previously being wanted are unachievable for landlords, bringing them into the level of more interesting independents. There's a new Georgian wine place opening where Tart was for example too.

There is a video somewhere on youtube of them - so far its all downstairs and the upstairs is very different. They come across as such a lovely couple on the film, its an interesting clip.

Its no access for cars during the timed restriction for cars coming from Lordship Lane towards east dulwich grove - the coaches will still be able to access Townley. Are we looking at the same picture? There are cars parked on both sides of the street - the jewson lorry wouldn't be able to get through as there are cars on the left and queueing traffic coming towards it. Agree its stopped - but this doesn't mean it was delivering to Charter - more that it just can't progress and cars were inching through gaps like they used to do every day on these roads. Do you really want 11 year old children trying to cross through that? Can you explain further? You used to be able to stick to the back streets when cycling but now can't? macutd Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > these changes don't mean that more people will > cycle. The parking outside the businesses being used by those with key worker permits is an issue - wonder if its worth having a meeting with the school to see if you could come to an informal agreement that where possible staff park on either the permit bays on Melbourne or on the bays on Trossachs / Tabert and Glengarry (as nearer to the other entrance if no bays available on Melbourne?, maybe a similar conversation with the hospital though wouldn't their staff use their car park? there are still disabled bays outside the pharmacy and i don't think that any general use bays have been removed from that stretch FairTgirl Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > tiddles Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Also can hey have removed several customer > parking > > spaces in Melbourne Grove > > Yes it is really important to note that as part of > the road closures more than 1 /3 of customer > parking has also been removed, thanks to CPZ M > Grove and Grove Vale now have the only paid for > customer parking in area, and as they are located > so close to the school and health centre what few > spaces there are also being used by key workers, > which they are entitled to, but with hardly any > spaces left, the business effectively have no > parking left for customers that do need it and > can't walk/cycle. > > One business has mostly elderly customers. > > There are alot of elderly and mobility challenged > who need to drive to the pharmacy and other > services on this road. Just out of interest when you say 'the junction' do you mean Dulwich Village - so coming from Townley towards Calton Avenue? I'm asking because I noticed just over a week or so ago that a box junction had been painted onto Dulwich Village to address the issue of cars queueing across the junction. Does this mean that cars are stopping in the box junction and you're having to weave through them? dulwichquine Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I cycled to work via Townley Road and onto > Greendale yesterday. Theft from bike shed Underhill Road
northernmonkey replied to JDR's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thats so annoying am sorry to hear that. The Stolen bikes in London facebook page recommends the following if not already done: 1. Log it on findthatbike.co.uk and on bikeregister.com Mark as stolen and include the frame number if you know it. 2. Tweet and Instagram post with @stolenride 3. Set up alerts on findthatbike which covers gumtree, ebay and Preloved, then set up separate alerts on shpock. 4. You can also see bikes for sale in London area on bikeshd.co.uk 5. Report it to the police via 101 crime form online. Let them know if you see it for sale, arrange to buy it then ask them to come with you to recover it. They don't always have the resources, but sometimes they do this. Good luck! In terms of bike shed security - its difficult because the advantage of having them accessible to use also means that they are accessible to steal, and more secure sheds might indicate more valuable bikes, but adding additional security like a ground anchor and locking the bikes with a motorcycle chain when inside the shed might help to make them less easy to take? -
activating visitors parking permits
northernmonkey replied to eggandsquares's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
you can just do it online on your parking account using the details you used to buy the permit. -
Don't think they do - there is a position whereby over a certain number the petition can be discussed at a council meeting which has happened here. Perhaps the petition starter closed the petition?

Rockets - i've seen you post this a lot - the 'ah but wait until the weather is worse' - isn't this precisely an argument FOR these kinds of measures? eg many people are capable of cycling or walking, but your (pretty accurate) assertion is that when it rains people will choose not to as its more convenient for them. Therefore just asking people to walk / cycle and providing nudge measures isn't enough and there need to be stronger interventions that make driving a less convenient default option.
