  1. Are you a very wealthy second home owner? Do you have dual nationality? It's not that easy to leave your country if you're neither of these. Where would you go?

  3. Don't think there'll be much glee around today with what's happened in Poland and France 😕
  4. Make sure you use a chartered surveyor. Party wall surveyors need no actual surveying qualifications to set themselves up as a PWS. You don't need RICS qualifications to be a member of Pyramus and Thisbe society. When a PW agreement is straight forward then it's not a problem to have a unqualified PWS but if you run into structural problems you need a qualified surveyor as a PWS who fully understands buildings.
  5. Spinach restaurant is good for vegetarians.
  6. https://open.substack.com/pub/londoncentric/p/more-chance-of-a-lottery-prize-than?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email Depressing article about bike theft with a useful point about faked receipts when buying high end bikes second hand.
  7. Being armed is very different. I know a couple of people erroneously stopped by armed police in London and it was extremely scary for them, much more so than being stopped by unarmed police. One of them was given a leaflet afterwards to explain why armed police had the right to randomly stop and search them and their vehicle so that made everything alright! So I don't think it should just be minimised by saying they all carry guns in that area so it was ok. It was a ridiculous bit of policing which we clearly agree on.
  8. Wasn't he making an ironic remark?..after all if you have a punchable pair of balls, you probably shouldn't be in the women's loos. I think we can agree that five armed police for such a remark on X by this man who, as far as I know, has never been considered a violent threat to anyone, was inappropriate and a worrying development about the policing of speech in this country.
  9. And if it's not a technical loophole ie it's just wrong, do you still feel so happy giving your money away?
  10. While it is the case that if the rules are broken one pays a fine. I have no issue with that. Unfortunately Southwark (via cameras or poorly trained traffic wardens) has incorrectly fined people in a number of different situations. Southwark then has to pay a number of staff to do a significant amount of unnecessary paperwork in responding to appeals, refunding fines, correcting signage etc and this is wasted money. It is right that Southwark staff and councillors should be held to account for wasting our money which is why it is worthy of BBC news. They could just get it right the first time.
  11. Although yesterday a delivery guy on an electric motorised bike stopped at a red light crossing and waited for me to cross while a dickhead in lycra and helmet sped up and swung across the road to go over the crossing behind me at speed. So it's probably just dickheads and danger seekers ride dangerously and others don't. 🤔
  12. Bob what happened to your career as an underwriter?
  13. I have to say I have only ever received a reply from one of the Goose Green Councillors and that is James McAsh. That's not to say Cllr Smith hasn't read my email and done something about my question but he has never replied.

  15. I've used ziffitt and I liked it because they collect from your house so no lugging of heavy boxes; once accepted you know they're definitely going to take them whereas many charity shops just don't want books. But it takes a bit of time to scan the books. The amount you receive is small so I wouldn't do it for the money. For me the main attraction is the collection of the boxes from your house and the fact that they actually want the books that you send them.
  16. I had a roofing inspector check a roof for me after bad work was done and I didn't know how to resolve it. I can't remember if he was from The Association of Master Roofers or The National Federation of Roofing Contractors. He didn't do rooves any more, he just did inspections and gave advice on what needed doing to solve a problem. Might be worth contacting those organisations and see if they have an inspector/surveyor as I'm sorry, I no longer have the details of how I found him.
  17. Here are the details. Also glad to see they are going to monitor speeds in Barry Road and Lordship Lane. There are a few insane drivers at very high speeds up and down those roads. Southwark could earn a fortune with a speed camera on LL 🤔 and slow cars down.
  18. This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants. If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well. Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
  19. ..... thinking about the discussion about Chango. Their "About us" blurb on the website says started by one Argentina guy. So if one person has a successful business and goes on to open a number of shops when do they go from a supported successful "family" business to a less liked "chain"?
  20. Focussing on the OP immediately shifts the focus of the post from the antisocial, thieving git that the OP wants to vent about to a discussion about casual racism and in my mind, it's the shoplifter who should be the focus of this thread even though she is unidentifiable. It's all just venting on here in the end.
  21. Why jump on the OP more than the shoplifter? It is pretty crap to just walk in to a shop and blatantly steal stuff and it does seem to be happening more often which is depressing. I've witnessed it several times in the last couple of years sometimes with groups of shoplifters who rush in and quickly steal a whole load of stuff. It does seem to me to be becoming more common. It's particularly galling when it's stealing non essential stuff like beer unless the person is an alcoholic and not being done because of poverty and hunger. All it does is put the prices up for those that pay and encourage others to just take stuff too. I guess the OP just wanted to share their anger. Not sure what a lone security guard can do which is also depressing because if there's no consequence for thieves then such behaviour will inevitably increase. ☹️
  22. I think you're right but I would love to know if anyone who has put in a swift brick for planning has actually seen a swift or other bird, or even a bat nesting in it. Hopefully someone will post on here 🤞
  23. That's a good start but do you have a shed load of money too?
  24. I've seen a few incidents recently where the bikes jumping the red lights have almost hit the bikes going through the green lights. A hazard to eachother 🤷
  25. I have to disagree Sue. It diminishes him as a serious politician. It was a misguided attempt at "humour". Unfortunately, the lack of respect that politicians show for eachother especially in parliament just makes the whole governing process look like a school boys and girls rabble at which we mostly groan, and lose faith. This in turn imo, contributes to the many reasons why ordinary people become disillusioned and disenfranchised from the governing process and start turning to blatant fraudsters, liars and narcissistic man babies like Farage and Trump (not excluding other fraudsters, liars etc that have already got themselves into parliament). It's increasingly difficult to take it all seriously. I hope J McAsh has seen the light and unraveled that jumper and remade it with a Xmas reindeer on the front!
