  1. Focussing on the OP immediately shifts the focus of the post from the antisocial, thieving git that the OP wants to vent about to a discussion about casual racism and in my mind, it's the shoplifter who should be the focus of this thread even though she is unidentifiable. It's all just venting on here in the end.
  2. Why jump on the OP more than the shoplifter? It is pretty crap to just walk in to a shop and blatantly steal stuff and it does seem to be happening more often which is depressing. I've witnessed it several times in the last couple of years sometimes with groups of shoplifters who rush in and quickly steal a whole load of stuff. It does seem to me to be becoming more common. It's particularly galling when it's stealing non essential stuff like beer unless the person is an alcoholic and not being done because of poverty and hunger. All it does is put the prices up for those that pay and encourage others to just take stuff too. I guess the OP just wanted to share their anger. Not sure what a lone security guard can do which is also depressing because if there's no consequence for thieves then such behaviour will inevitably increase. ☹️
  3. I think you're right but I would love to know if anyone who has put in a swift brick for planning has actually seen a swift or other bird, or even a bat nesting in it. Hopefully someone will post on here 🤞
  4. That's a good start but do you have a shed load of money too?
  5. I've seen a few incidents recently where the bikes jumping the red lights have almost hit the bikes going through the green lights. A hazard to eachother 🤷
  6. I have to disagree Sue. It diminishes him as a serious politician. It was a misguided attempt at "humour". Unfortunately, the lack of respect that politicians show for eachother especially in parliament just makes the whole governing process look like a school boys and girls rabble at which we mostly groan, and lose faith. This in turn imo, contributes to the many reasons why ordinary people become disillusioned and disenfranchised from the governing process and start turning to blatant fraudsters, liars and narcissistic man babies like Farage and Trump (not excluding other fraudsters, liars etc that have already got themselves into parliament). It's increasingly difficult to take it all seriously. I hope J McAsh has seen the light and unraveled that jumper and remade it with a Xmas reindeer on the front!
  7. I would think most people were totally unaware of the consultation. There was no notification of the consultation immediately outside of the selected area even though residents of adjacent streets would obviously be affected. I believe it was First Mate who put the consultation meeting dates on the forum which was helpful, but most people don't read the forum. At one of the consultation meetings, the council staff suggested residents of adjacent streets should do their own leafleting if they were concerned.
  8. 🤣Yes reading the roads section is beginning to make a person feel like they've been hit by a fast moving undefined mode of transport without even leaving the house!
  9. Is this a survey? In which case my answer is No There is one traffic lighted crossing and I think we can cross at other points close by using our own common sense. But I would like to see some cyclists slow down more as they go through the junction.
  10. I came across the comment below so seems this part of the track is supposed to be a pedestrian area but agree if you cycle across the parallel bars especially when filled with rainwater there's a high chance of coming off in the tramlines. Once you know it's there you can take appropriate action but first time users could be caught out. ☹️ Note that this is at the entry of the cycle lane. It's not designed to alert cyclists that their lane is ending; it's designed to make sure that cyclists do not enter the pedestrian lane (and that pedestrians do not enter the cycle lane). Not sure how good they are. This junction in vauxhall bridge road is absolutely lethal for pedestrians as cyclists just ride across the pedestrian area at high speed. I've seen a few near catastrophes at this site.
  11. What is an astro-turfer? 🤔 Explanation please.
  12. I suspect that will be impossible and if the data is held in an NHS system, I think it will definitely be impossible. I don't believe it would be the likes of Apple or Meta in terms of IT security. If I were having a baby now I think I would opt out.
  13. Worth reading The Age of Diagnosis by Dr Suzanne o Sullivan which has a chapter discussing pros and cons of genetic diagnosis. Sometimes it's better not to know.
  14. An inquiry will put a huge amount of time and resource into looking at what happened in the past and why it happened and who was responsible and, in a year or two maybe more, a report will be produced and actions may or may not be taken, some of those responsible for bad decisions will already have resigned and moved on. Given that we now already understand some of the issues that allowed this awful behaviour to continue unchallenged, my concern is less about whether there is an inquiry to examine what happened in the past but about what is being done right now to protect girls and young women from predatory and exploitative men in whatever race or identity they come in. Inquiries examine the past but don't necessarily solve problems and they certainly don't come up with conclusions quickly which is why they can often feel hollow. I'd rather see perpetrators and those that let the perpetrators act with impunity, actually being prosecuted and an inquiry won't do that. I suspect that's why some MPs voted against an inquiry. But do feel free to give me examples of inquiries that really made a difference and actually changed things in a timely and effective way.
  15. Unfortunately I was not at all impressed by the Woodwarde Road one. I was trying to avoid taking time off work so went privately to start with as they were open on Saturdays but, after a bad experience and a lot of money, I went to the NHS service and it was brilliant. You can self refer but I'm not sure if there are exclusions to what they'll see. https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/referral-guide/community-foot-health-podiatry#non-gp-referrals-self-referrals-and-referrals-from-friends-carers-and-relatives
  16. The DYLs go in first in order to keep the space available for when the cycle hangar is delivered for installation.
  17. My uncle used to say you can only be an ugly person on the inside so, if he's right, the hairdresser won't be able to help! 😉
  18. Is that a rhetorical question?...it will depend on the nature of the restriction...if it's residents only then residents will pay for a permit and there will be reduced parking for non residents/non permit holders. If it's time restricted paid parking then the amount of parking might stay the same but non permit holders will be able to park for a a limited time and it could be paid or free etc etc. There are many permutations but residents will need to pay for permits if they want to park on their street at restricted times. So it just depends what the council installs. Has that been published?
  19. First Mate do you know what the hours will be of the new cpz?
  20. I'm guessing this is all type roofing in Bawdale road. At least the roofers will able to stop and load more easily if they put DYLs in. I presume there won't be no loading lines on the kerbs as that wouldn't make sense. But no doubt once the cpz comes in on the Melbourne grove side and people living and/or working on lordship lane move their parked cars to the east side of LL, the cpz will come in on Bawdale and other side roads. It will be interesting to see if those living in flats above shops on lordship lane will be able to get permits as I don't think those on the west side can apply in the Melbourne grove scheme. Bit unfair imo.
  21. Loading restrictions are indicated by kerb lines Lines on the road are for parking
  22. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-14774205/Urgent-warning-opioid-deaths-Met-Police-pills-heroin-nightclubs.html?ito=email_share_article-top I'm sharing this article to help to spread the word about these new deadly synthetic opioids called Nitazenes which are finding their way onto the drug scene. Two more young lives lost last weekend in young people at a South London club. Most people I talk to have never heard of Nitazenes which are being used as contaminants in a number of other drugs including sleeping pills like valium and Xanax, oxycodone but have also been found in vapes and sedative antihistamines and cocaine. So people buying sleeping tablets and other substances have no idea of the risk they are taking. This is a relatively new trend and the number of deaths is on the increase. Do discuss it with your teenagers and young adult children and anyone you know tempted to purchase sleeping tablets online. It really is a much more dangerous and potentially lethal time to buy tablets online or on the street and hopefully knowledge of Nitazenes can help people protect themselves. This stuff is in London and no doubt, is already in Dulwich so do spread the word.

  23. I bet the rents in Crouch End are higher than in ED so not sure the logic holds up.
  24. Do check out changing at Lille if it's possible, as is much easier than changing stations in Paris. I did London to Montpellier changing at Lille which was very straightforward but it was a little while ago.
