Yes I will def feed back. I have called them a couple of times to get my crime reference number for insurance claim but so far the crime hasnt actually been recorded on the system, hmmm...?? I will keep pushing it because they would def be able to see him on the CCTV, not the actual mugging sadly but I really hope that they check it out. I went out to Rye Lane today to get a new phone and was watching my back pretty much the whole time and felt like such a victim, such a shame as I have lived in London for 11 years and always felt safe. I'm sure that I will feel better as time goes on! -

Isn't it awful :( I spent the whole night having disturbing dreams about it even though it wasn't that bad really. Its a new low when they go for you with children, just disgusting behaviour. Sorry to hear all your other stories of it happening to you guys, just rubbish. -

I know, especially when I cancelled the Sim and blacklisted the handset pretty much immediately so essentially it is worthless. It was an Iphone so I know that they are popular for resale...might keep my eyes open on the classified section! :) -

Thanks everyone. I didn't actually have my daughter with me thank god because I would feel even worse if I had. The police did say that he was most probably a professional so to speak, because he was fast and silent and didnt try and take my bag means that he literally just prayed on me for my phone. I am fine although it is starting to hurt now, my neck and arms are very sore. And yes Pickle...because he had been spotted pacing the street before they should be able to check out the CCTV. Im just really upset that I have lost most of the photos and videos of my girl :( Save yours now!!! Thanks for the concern. x -
Hi Just in case people don't read the main board I just wanted to let people know i was mugged this afternoon in the little park by sainsburys and wanted to do the usual head's up. One of the witnesses had already seen him walking back and forth near ED station and the parade of shops where blackbird bakery is and had thought he was looking a bit dodgy so remembed him well. Looks like he clocked me on the corner of melbourne grove and followed me as I was texting at the time. Anyway, broad daylight, he was completely silent as he approached, pushed me onto the ground and then fought me for my phone as my gut instint was to try and hang onto it! Thank you to the lovely people who helped me and called the police and gave statements. I was really touched. Thanks

Hi I was mugged for my mobile phone in the little park by Sainsburys at about 3.15pm today and wanted to extend my thanks to the kind people who came to help me off the floor and especially to the woman who quickly called the police. We went for a drive around but couldn't see him unfortunately but thanks to the girl who had seen him walking back and forth outside the station looking dodgy they have a really good description and think they can take a look at the CCTV. I have to say that even though they took a while to get there I was really impressed with the support they gave and really touched by the kindness of the people who helped me and stayed with me. We really like the farm in crystal palace park and the giant sandpit in the playground. I sent the hubby off with the baby for a couple of hours whilst I relaxed and did...the cleaning. :)

Hey! My girl is at nursery and also has a nursery tea around 3ish I think. I find that when I pick her up she is a little hungry but I havent tried offering her any meal at this time, she is so knackered that I think she would throw it at me! Instead we do milk before bed as normal and I find she often has a little more than on non-nursery days. I also know that the nursery do sometimes give them some little snacks (breadsticks, ricecakes etc) around 5ish if they seem hungry. I hadn't even considered feeding her again...does that make me a bad mother??? :)

nurseries and primary schools - moving to the area
jennyh replied to sallybash's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Have a search on the forum for other threads about playgroups, nurseries etc as there are loads of other conversations going on about these things. My daughter is at My Favourite Nursery on Upland Road and I am very happy with it. Have no idea about primary schools though I'm afraid. As for the area generally, its a fantastic place to have children and there are lots of meet-ups and playgroups, regular music classes and baby exercise classes, sing and sign, swimming, mum's keep fit, plus a load of child friendly cafes and shops that sell all the bits you might need (albeit for a fairly hefty price!) Things you can do for free or for a small charge and then some things that are more expensive. There are also loads of great cafes, restaurants and pubs for you to go out on the occasional evening if you get the chance and 2 big parks and Dulwich woods. Definitely move here! Jenny -
Hi We exclusively formula fed as I had problems with getting baby to latch and problems with my milk supply. i would say that I found formula feeding to be a complete pain because of all the preparation, the sterilising and getting the right temperature etc etc. My baby never drank bottles quickly although maybe some do, and although I think she settled into a feeding pattern quite quickly she still needed a bottle every 2-3 hours at that age. I am sure that many breastfeeding mums will reply with lots of useful advice but from my opinion I think if you can get the hang of breastfeeding in public and of expressing you would do better than trying to introduce formula, asides from the benefits of giving baby breastmilk of course. Obviously I don't have the experience but it can take a while to establish feeding and so you might find it all slots into place naturally in the coming weeks. Good luck and congratulations on your baby! Edited to say that when I was expressing milk in the early weeks (when I had some) I hired a double pump from the chemist on Lordship lane (by the funeral place) and it would be very efficient if you had a good milk supply! otehrwise we used the Avent electric and manual combined pump and found it pretty good.

which is better investment: bouncer or gym mat?
jennyh replied to nabz's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We really liked the fisher Price rainforest gym and it was great to stimulate our girl when she got a bit bigger (she was hitting out at the toys around 2 months). It also lasted a long time and she would happily lie under it and roll around on it when getting close to 6 months. I felt that it was good for her to have all the bright colours and textures etc and I felt it taught her things as well rather than a chair where she didnt have quite the same stimulation. We had a vibrating bouncy chair which was also a life saver as it was another useful place to put the baby when needing to have a shower or something, they can sit in it wherever you are rather than having to move around a playmat which isn't always practical. My gripe with that is she grew out of it quicker because she wanted to be able to sit upright and by the age of about 5 months she would get frustrated at being slumped backwards and being confined so it became redundant. We have the bouncy chair going spare at the moment so if you would like to try it out then you are more than welcome and if you find it useful then you can either go onto buy one or we can work something out price wise if you want to take it off our hands. Let me know! It is currently taking up space we dont have! -
I can also add that a forward facing seat has made my daughter much happier. She never screamed like your girl but she did cry as soon as she was put in, no more crying now she looks forward!

Could you go on a few journeys with both you and your husband and one of you sits in the back with her entertaining and trying to calm her. She may gradually find it is a comfortable and safe space an then you can gradually withdraw yourself from the backseat?! Just an idea, no idea if there is any sense in it. Good luck!

what is everyone using to give milk to a 1 yr old

Thanks, mine will drink water from a cup but I havent tried milk. What is the reasoning behind stopping the daytime bottles? -
My Favourite Nursery Upland Road
jennyh replied to mollydoodle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter has been going 2 days a week since October and she loves it (she is 1 now). Sometimes they seem a bit frantic and they are a bit disorganised with things but if you see past that the care is good, the staff are very sweet and the children are happy. Don't be put off if you visit and it looks a bit chaotic or you find yourself asking a lot of questions, they aren't very experienced in dealing with the parents in my experience so don't offer loads of reassurance etc but I found that my daughter gave me all the reassurance I needed as she is so smiley when she goes there and barely gives me a backwards glance! The toys are all good quality, the food is alright and the children are very fond of each other as well as of their carers. I would recommend it wholeheartedly. Oh and they always have time to speak to you during drop off and pick up if you have any particular concerns that day, i.e coughs/colds/constipation/bad mood/tired etc etc. And they work with you on development if you mention to them that your little one is making progress with mobility etc and will try and ensure they encourage that as well. PM if you want any further info. I know it can be hard to decide! -
Often wondered about this place, its just a bit of a non-place really. Never stepped foot inside but the outside looks lovely, I do get the impression though that they have no idea about how to make it a desirable place to have a meal or host a party or wedding. Shame as it has so much potential!

If you are not already familiar with this site then definitely worth checking it out. really quite impressive. http://www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com And if you are really bored and the cats haven't answered your need for entertaiment then check out this, although probably not if you are a vegetarian. http://hatsofmeat.com/photos.html

Im at DMC too and echo what the others say. I once asked them about it and they said only a small proportion of apps could be booked in advance and the majority were left open to same day booking, but only if you're lucky enough to get through first thing. Is everyone ringing constantly as I tend to press redial immediately after each engaged tone so have called around 45 times by the time it is answered :) not ideal with a baby hanging off you wanting breakfast! Usually get an appointment if persistent and only once or twice been told nothing was available. I actually had more troubles trying to book in for a particular clinic which I had to wait over a month for. They have leaflets in reception about the patient participation group if anyone wants to join.

Developing mobility - stages and ages?
jennyh replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you everyone! That does help, I just caught this stupid program and got drawn in. I am sure that she will get there eventually and I am in no real hurry to have her completely mobile as Iknow that everything changes! Funnily enough she has just today started trying to pull herself up to standing using the sofa and has got the hang of lifting her hands when in crawling position but not going anywhere yet. I should have known better than to worry! I will def go to the HV though if I start freaking about anything like this again! -
Hi To all those who know me - please dont get bored of my incessant need to keep talking about mobility but I wanted to extend to a wider audience :) Just caught a bit of saints and scroungers and its talking about muscular disability in a couple of children that presented itself around 1-2 years old and was evident from a lack of ability to walk well in the toddling stages. I'm interested in everyone's experiences of when their babies started walking etc... My daughter is 11 months old and can go up on her hands and knees and commando crawl backwards but has no way of moving forward despite clearly wanting to. She doesn't bum shuffle and cannot go from lying to sitting yet. She can stand supported but frequently stands on her tip-toes which seems to be a natural thing for her to do, if you try to encourage her to walk she will just dangle or sway around rather than have any instinct to take a step. Her legs do buckle frequently at the knees. I am not one to panic over things like this and I am aware that babies develop in all manners and at different stages but I just want a teeny bit of reassurance having been slightly freaked out about the tv program...I should know better than to watch! I feel that she has always been more interested in learning stuff rather than her mobility. She sat quite early and from that point has always been happy to sit and explore things with her hands, she tries to put her socks on, tries to do up buttons, poppers and zips, will hunt out a sesame seed on the other side of the room and make a bee-line to grab it! Really into looking at small details and things like opening/closing, putting things in/out etc. She has also always been a big baby and it strikes me that the heavier ones might take a bit longer to move around?? Anyway, just putting it out there! Feel free to comment if anything to say :)

My mate reckons it has something to do with Molly...as he asks for her help. To create a fake identity or maybe get hold of a corpse. It's all a bit far-fetched but I love it!!

When mine was sick before Christmas (search for the thread as it went on a bit!) I found it was dairy that she was struggling with and once I stopped any dairy for 2 days and stuck to basic purees she wouldn't vomit. Gave her tummy the chance to settle and then re-introduced milk...easier said than done obviously as they get very hungry for milk in the night. It's funny bcoz 3 GPs told me to stick with small amounts of milk and yoghurt but the A&E doc said it's too heavy for sensitive tummy. Not sure if this will work for you as mine also came off some antibiotics that were possibly making her sick too so perhaps a combination! Poor thing, it's horrid seeing them poorly :(
