Blair did the same thing miga. He engratiated himself with cool brit pop! Remember when Oasis went to a gathering at no.10? Edited to say that Brand is a smart move. Brand has 9 million twitter followers alone.

But polls in marginals are never that accurate. Remember the year John Major won? Lot's of polls put Labour ahead in marginals by a mile, but on the day it just didn't happen. That's because often, what people say in a poll and what they actually do on the day is a different thing. Many think the best indicators are the bookmakers odds. The lose money if they get it wrong. Right now they have Miliband and Cameron neck and neck, but when it comes to a coalition they put Miliband ahead. But pretty much all the analysts and polls etc are now predicting no overall majority, even with a coalition deal.

But the electoral system still favours the two biggest parties. This is why whilst UKIP are targetting 10 seats, the data analysts predict only 1 or 2 gains. On past data, the conservatives tend to do slightly better than expected and labour slighty worse than expected. So the prediction is that the conservatives will have most seats but won't be able to form a bigger coalition than labour. The SNP are going to be a huge factor in any coalition and in no terms will ally with the Tories. It's certainly an interesting time.

Panorama this week was interesting (and worth a look on iplayer). It predicts a minority labour government with UKIP getting just 1 (or was it 2) seats. And the SNP will replace the Libdems as the third largest party. It talked about shy tories too. Interesting growth figures and oh that list of small businesses that wasn't quite what it seems. Not a good couple of days for Cameron.

I completely agree rah rah. There's a lot of hypocrasy in the Conservative message.
-
That's really interesting henry. It's funny because listening to all the parties and their policies I have found myself in most agreement with the Green Party (whom I have never voted for) and lo and behold the survey says I have most in common with the greens, but only by 50%. Labour and the LibDems make up the rest. Just relieved to see no UKIP or Conservatives :D

Yeah I'm realising that now lol. I'm guessing Tarot has a bit of a track record?
-
Agreed Jeremy. Tarot's problem is that he doesn't have the intellect to engage in sensible debate. He's had plenty of opportunity to respond to opposition of his view, but has chosen not to, resorting to childish insults instead.

Gordon's flaw was his ego. He wanted to be Prime Minister really. He definitely was responsible for the ultra light regulation of the city in the UK and there were aspects of trading that were illegal in the USA but perfectly legal here. But he and the Labour party were never solely responsible for the global banking crash. ALL countries were guilty of poor regulation, and no-one worries about anything during the good times. The economy was starting to recover when the last election took place as well. Something that Labour have failed to get accross. And the Tories follow the mantra that if they tell a lie often enough, people will accept it as the truth. It may have worked on the economy but Cameron is fooling no-one on welfare, food banks and housing I think.

Hmm what point did we miss exactly. All those gay storylines before the watershed put children at risk according to you. You are truly stupid Tarot
-
Point taken numbers, but I think most people would agree that someone starting a thread and then extending on their subject with comments like watershed and impact on children, better be able to back that up with hard evidence. In spite of being challenged on that point by me in several posts, Tarot has chosen to not only ignore it, but then further insults all of our intelligence by claiming to be a victim of heterophobia! He/ she further responds to me with a comment about not having children etc. Anyone looking at the post you are now trying to pick apart (from me) and looking at the post I was replying to, in context, would be able to see why Tarot deserved the talking down he got. If Tarot knew anything about sexuality and psychology, he/ she would never have made the comemment about watersheds in the first place.
-
lol. You need a qualification to drive a bus don't you? Alas I only have an ordinary driving licence.

I think there will be no coalition (to give a majority) possible for either Labour or the Tories. I think we are heading for minority government and may see another General Election within 2 years. The conservatives are now starting to sound like a broken record on the SNP thing. I tend to think that floating voters will be choosing the best of a pretty unimpressive bunch, or not voting at all. Neither of the two main parties has done anything to try and woo new votes, mainly because the Tories have been too busy trying to negate the impact of UKIP on them and Labour have been reeling from the prospect of losing seats to the SNP in Scotland. Thjere's not really much from any of them to get excited about imo.
-
That's right Jeremy. I'm not going to say exactly what I do for a profession in a public forum. Why would I? Not an odd thing to say at all numbers. Tarot is being deliberately obtuse and trying to avoid taking responsibility for his/ her comments. I don't have to be polite about that, esp as all prior posts that try to reason with Tarot have been so deliberately ignored. lol@spark67 Phil Mitchell? Really? :D

Tarot. I have two kids of my own and I regularly treat youngsters as part of my profession. There is nothing YOU can teach me about child psychology. Did I miss something, when as an undergraduate, I read all that research into sexuality and prenatal hormonal chemistry? And what about all the research into human neurobehavioral development? Tarot, if you can find me just one credible research paper providing a link between exposure to gay characters in soaps and development of sexual orientation, then I promise to stop treating you like a muppet.

Brockley Footpath needs lighting ASAP
Blah Blah replied to mynamehere's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Police haven't asked for help though. One officer (who needs to question the job she's in if a dark footpath frightens her) made a comment at a ward meeting, I am assuming as part of a general discussion. Let's think about this. Who walks that path in the dark? Will lighting suddenly stop people trying to get into the reservoir grouds for the view etc? Lighting won't change a thing, but it will waste electricity and the money it costs to implement it. It would be different if it were a heavily used footpath. But it's not. -
Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm guessing you don't want to borrow my Queer as > Folk boxset then? > > Louisa. Ha ha! Why didn't I think of that? The best that Tarot can do now is to defend him/herself by claiming persecution for being a heterosexual bigot! Tarot, you started the conversation. You might want to conveniently bury your head in the sand and pretend otherwise, but I remind you just one more time that you said that gay storylines before the watershed would damage children. YOU said that. If you are going to write stupid ignorant rubbish like that, defend it. Don't start playing the victim when people challenge you on it. Take responsibility for the crap that you type.

And Murdoch wonders why anyone would want to break up his newpaper empire?
-
Oh for heavens sake Tarot, are you for real? You justified your question by talking about watersheds and the imapct on children. Many people far more intelligent than you have pointed out why you are displaying signs of homophobia but you are too stupid to even know what they are talking about it seems. There's only one reason why anyone would mention children and watersheds. That reason is because you, in your total moronic ignorance think children can be turned gay if they see lots of gay characters.

The Beano is safe (I think)
-
Isn't it all just the result of major parties having reached a point of desperation? Instead of facing the truth, that neither Labour nor the Tories are popular enough, they are clutching at straws in a desperate attempt to avoid the inevitable hung parlioament. The media has also been totally complicit in pushing the SNP and UKIP into the limelight as well. For me personally, I have found the Tory behaviour quite off putting. They have been far worse than Labour with scaremongering and put downs. Cameron never answers a single question or point made about their failings over the past five years. I think that alone has cost them wavering voters. I've gone from abivalence towards him, to a total disrespect.

Thefts of mopeds/scooters

Heard that report on the radio too Laur. They are just too easy to steal. That's part of the problem.
