I was blocked last night too, same as above, but seems fine now.
  2. Like I said, I found it no inconveniece at all to get off my cycle and walk along the pavement for all of 40 seconds. I don't see why other cyclists could not do the same.
  3. The best moment is watching the kids go to bed excited on Xmas Eve, and then munching all the stuff we leave for Santa (which of course includes Jack Daniels for medicinal purposes). That guarantees a hazy hungover fog by the time the in-laws arrive for dinner!
  4. Yeah cyclists should get off and walk along the pavement. I do that and it takes me all of 40 seconds to do so. Just selfish people at the end of the day.
  5. Every year they write a song that suits who they want to win, better. Fleur will go on to sell loads of records, just like all those others that outsold their years winning acts. It's better not to win sometimes. I do like Ben's voice but that song is shite.
  6. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cliquey thread of the year award..... .....this one :D
  7. It's also a way of saying only politicians should have opinion, and we all know what kind of government that leads too. I thought that guy in the audience was a bully to be honest and yes I think Brand should have pointed out that most of the people that campaign for and drive change are ordinary people, not those in power.
  8. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/12/12/bbcqt-ukip-carver_n_6315826.html?utm_hp_ref=tw I did wonder.............
  9. ffs did you even bother to read the OP Monkey? The guy changed direction to follow her. She wasn't describing a man walking behind her, but one that was walking towards her, and as he passed tried to engage with her, and then having past her, changed direction to follow her. I think that would creep most people out on a dark road with no-one around, let alone an isolated female.
  10. I read it as worse than that sedm, that the guy was coming towards her, walked past, and then turned round to follow her. I think Sarah was extremely sensible in seeking out the nearest safest option, by knocking on a door.
  11. He did Alan, which made him look a bit like a fish out of water anyway.
  12. I don't always agree with him either ????, but that's not really the point. He raises debate around important issues, that HAVE been swept under the carpet in the leaning towards the economic right. And it's refreshing that he's a relatively young left winger. Totally agree El Pibe. Farage is not a scoialist in any form. He may pertain to speak for the common man, but he is free market capitalist Tory through and through and cares even less for hard won rights and protections. That he manages to mask all of that either makes him extremely clever (and dangerously so) or those who support him a bit stupid. Careful what you wish for comes to mind on that one.
  13. Owen Jones is the person to do that ????. But at a People's Assembly rally in the summer in Paliament Square, it was Russell Brand, who said nothing of any use on the stage, who made the press coverage (what little there was of it), not the brilliant speech by Owen Jones and others. That's for me where RB does more harm than good. To say there isn't an issue based narrative for the left isn't true. Corporations make increased porfits year on year while the value of wages they pay goes down. Ken Loach gave a great speech recently in which he said that most ordinary people just want an education, a job, healthcare and a pension. He is right, that hasn't changed at all. But corporations, banks etc don't care if you have any of that. That's a huge problem. And where government has failed is in safeguarding a balance in the economy that can deliver those things. The left would argue for public ownership, where workers are invested in the company they work for. The right argue for unregulated free markets where profit supposedly trickles down to take care of everything. We know that neither models do what they promise. Somewhere in the middle is where we should be (failing a complete change of system and the things we value within it). So there is a role for the left, in reining in the onward march of free market capitalism, just as there always has been.
  14. That's a very good point too Loz.
  15. I don't know enough about it to know if those things are true Mick. Aren't local authorities tied into a decent homes scheme of improvements? Or am I wrong about that?
  16. I think Brand did ok on Question Time Holloway. He tried to keep the focus on the inequality of the ecomony (and rightly so), whilst others wanted to distract with immigration draining resources being the reason there's no money to go around ordinary people. He is a lone voice though in that repsect. No major party is giving any policy designed to get employment and wages up. They may flirt with it, as Miliband has done in recent days, but there's no mention of how it's going to be achieved.
  17. Yes I wonder if that's more the case. I think part of the appeal of Farage is his direct no nonsense way of speaking. And the focus on immigration has also been used as a damocles sword against him, when actually his reason for success in garnering support may actually be his way of communicating. Perhaps the focus on his messages on immigration is a red herring there. Westminster have missed the point of Farage, to their detriment?
  18. Wow that's an interesting map david. Do you think perhaps those are also areas where the economy is flat lining most and that immigants have always been the first line of attack in those circumstances? What I also notice from the map is that it covers urban areas that have been in economic decline for decades and perhaps a disillusion with mainstream parties to represent them is also at play?
  19. That may be so, but it's not a solution. They are in fact helping to keep prices going up. The only way to bring prices down is for people to be realistic and not buy if they can't comfortably afford to do so. A shortage of first time buyers will being prices down. It always does.
  20. Thank you Becca for acknowledging your mistake. To be fair, I think there's a big difference between an anonymous collection bag dropping through your door and a local well established business doing something for charity? Anyway, I think lesson learned and hopefully if any good can come out of it, more people will go there to buy their tree. Admittedly I didn't know about them until you posted Becca, so that's one extra sale for them thanks to your mistake. All's well that ends well :)
  21. If he has mental health issues, he will be on a radar somewhere. You could find out if the property is owned and who by through the Land registry. I think this is something that the Police can help with too. They will visit properties causing a noise disturbance in anti-social hours. And Sue's advice is good too. Yes the process is drawn out with noise abuse and Southwark, but they have to have evidence before they can act.
  22. Maybe so Otta, but ex council flats are leasehold, come with services charges and potential maintenance costs. So you have to factor in whether you can afford that when buying. It comes back to my point that people are overextending themselves to buy property. They have to take responsibility for that. Complaining about a system, that has been in place since the right to buy scheme was dreamt up, is a red herring in my opinion.
  23. Well there ya go. The OP recalled the email address wrong. Typical EDF nonsense. People not checking their facts before they post and others assuming the OP must be telling the truth.
  24. And you know Otta, did the OP think of double checking with the vendor before almost accusing them of dishonesty on a local forum? What is wrong with you people? Give them a break. They are just a small business trying to do something for charity. Let's applaud that and support them instead, ffs.
  25. Jeez give it a rest Otta. Well said Intexas. I will be buying my tree there today with two very excited kids.
