  1. "Seeing as MEATliqour began its life in a Peckham car park." Really? I thought it was in New Cross.
  2. Hate to say it but Spurs are looking fantastic.
  3. You could try asking on the Peckham Chamber Orchestra Facebook page.
  4. The hair and beauty shops around the Peckham Rye station square are set to move to a specially designed, palm-tree themed, beauty boulevard. As part of the Peckham Rye Station Square project a number of retail tenants, mainly Afro-Caribbean hairdressers and nail bars, currently residing in the units along Blenheim Grove will need to be re-located. Earlier this year, Southwark Council appointed artists Something & Son and business support specialists Tree Shepherd to work with these businesses to develop ideas for a bespoke centre for Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty in Peckham. After a number of one to one interviews and group workshops, the team has developed ?Peckham Palms?. This new centre for hair and beauty draws its inspirations from Peckham?s cultural heritage and distinctiveness and will cement Peckham?s reputation as the leading destination for affordable and quality Afro-Caribbean hair styling and beauty in London. Although some of the businesses are still anxious about how the move will affect businesses, most are looking forward to getting into their new premises. Tessy, Divine Destiny Hair and Beauty Salon, said: "I am happy to be moving to Bournemouth Close, we don't know if it will be busy but it will be safer for our children and customer's children." Charlene, PEACE Unisex Hair & Beauty Salon: "I am looking forward to seeing works start and for things to happen. We have been told we will get help for our businesses to move which will be good." Over a five year period, these new shop units and individual rentable chairs will create an additional 24 part-time jobs and help to train and support up to 100 people, allowing budding entrepreneurs to professionalise and grow their health and beauty business. Cllr Mark Williams, cabinet member for regeneration and new homes, said: ?The Palms will see investment into this underused area of Peckham and will create a new destination for Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty in our borough, and will provide key support to local businesses affected by the redevelopment of Peckham Rye Station.? Paul Smyth from Something and Sons, said: "The Palms will celebrate Peckham's buzzing salon culture and grow on the areas reputation as the best place in London for Afro-Caribbean Hair and Beauty. At the Palms, hair stylists and beauticians will have the space and security to grow their business and visitors, old and young, will have a new place just off Rye Lane to get a haircut, eat some food and hang out with friends and family." 9. Link Age Southwark, the charity supporting older people across Southwark for over 20 years gets a new name. Volunteers, supporters and older people who use the charity have welcomed the news that Link Age Southwark is to be the new name for Dulwich Helpline and Southwark Churches Care. The charity, based at Dulwich Hospital, chose the new name to better reflect its work and the range of services it offers to more than 500 over-60s in Southwark. Link Age Southwark keeps older people connected to their local community by providing regular home visits from a dedicated group of volunteers and running 20 groups with activities ranging from crafts and computers to singing and yoga. Volunteers also accompany older people on trips to the shops or to non-medical appointments, as well as offering help around the house and garden, and lifts to social events. The people who use Link Age Southwark pay nothing. Link Age Southwark wants to reach more people across the borough and get more volunteers involved in supporting older people in their local community. The charity has a dedicated service for people with mild to moderate dementia who are living independently. Link Age Southwark has also launched a drive to recruit volunteers to talk to older people over the phone. Katharine St John-Brooks, Chair of Link Age Southwark, said: ?This is the start of an exciting new chapter for us. Southwark is such a vibrant and diverse London Borough but there are still too many older people suffering from loneliness and isolation. The good news is that it is also home to many wonderful people who are willing to give up some spare time to help, whether it?s to pop round for a cup of tea and a chat, to give someone a lift to a social event they couldn?t get to alone, or to help in the office. We are busier than ever and I see the charity going from strength to strength as Link Age Southwark.? Dame Tessa Jowell, Honorary President of the charity, said: ?We all hope that age won?t catch up with us, but when it does we?ll be thankful for the work of charities like Link Age Southwark. Its work with older people in the community is so valuable and the volunteers get a lot out of it too. I hope the new name helps attract more volunteers to build stronger links in the community and bring friendship and conversation back into the lives of even more older people across Southwark.? Iris, who is 86 years old and uses Link Age Southwark, said: ?I like the new name because it?s simple, easy to remember and reflects the wonderful work that the charity and its volunteers do. The charity has been a lifeline for me. Without volunteers to take me out and a social group to go to I would be completely housebound. Thanks to Link Age Southwark I?m able to get out of the house, build friendships, and meet people of all ages in the local community. When I was younger I helped older people in so many ways, and I urge everyone to get involved with Link Age Southwark and support the incredible work it does.? The charity will formally become known as Link Age Southwark on Monday 19 October but there has been an extensive engagement process to make sure everybody is ready for the change. You can find out more about the charity, its history and the new name by visiting www.linkagesouthwark.org. One night in 1990 myself a group of friends were in the 7-11 and the charming patrons started jeering us. Not to be intimidated we walked past them down lordship lane, not making eye contact but not taking any of their crap either. Suddenly one of them got in their car, mounted the pavement outside what was the sports shop and knocked several of our group over to loud cheers from the pub. That soon stooped when he hit a woman who was just standing in shock and she rolled all the way up the bonnet then collapsed on the floor. They all ran from outside of the pub and we just picked ourselves up helped the lady and waited for the police. To this day I still see a few of the then patrons around ED.
