Too many swimmers Dulwich Leisure centre
Jules-and-Boo replied to Jellybeanz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Lane swimming and open pool should be scheduled at different times, and children should not be allowed in lane swimming unless they are doing that activity. Not clear if the staff are mixing the two up, or if too many lane swimmers are being admitted. -
Have you tried to restart it in Safe Mode and restore to an earlier version of the settings? ideally before the Major Geeks installation? It usually press restart and F4 and then follow prompts.

GALA Festival 2024 Stakeholder Debrief
Jules-and-Boo replied to fishboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is always one who trolls, to provoke and get a reaction and change the tone of the message and conversation. Don't let that happen. The concerns raised about the way the feedback has been arranged seem very valid. Perhaps a way forward would be for a list of complaints to be compiled (and any suggestions to deal with those points) and emailed to the Gala organisers, the council, the newspapers, and as many show up as can to get answers - even if only to be able to record the answers and again share with the council, newspapers and larger local community. -
Have you chosen a primary school you want to attend? Have you checked out their criteria and furthest distance? What are your second and third choices? Siblings always get priority so even if you live nearby it’s not guaranteed that you will get a place at your first choice. I’d pick somewhere to live in between my top three and rent or buy according to your personal decisions

it's all from Covent Garden market - just bigger uplift as they make it look nice (funny how a cardbox box in Lidl and a wooden carte can change perception)

What does the school have to say on the matter? -
There is help suggested for how to make things better with your neighbour and how to stop the noise. What are the problems you want help with? We had a similar issue and installed soundproofing on our wooden floors and then carpets. I can dig out the actual product details but was a few years ago and we’ve moved since

London's going high rise anyway - a number of super tall buildings approved. If we need homes, it's preferable to build them on sites already developed rather than on green land. We need homes - yet there is resistance when it's on your doorstep. Where would be good as an alternative? -
Mayoral candidates - enironment and transport pledges
Jules-and-Boo replied to malumbu's topic in Roads & Transport
ULEZ is successful. My money is not on Susan Hall. She doesn’t have much apart from picking things she thinks are unpopular -
It's also a factor of parenting and how children are brought up.
-
We need a reduction in cars. For that, we need better alternative options and ( not or) the public to grasp the problems that driving causes. LTN May move traffic, but couple with lower cars this would work. ULEZ is a different approach, and works. There is a real issue with people who think that driving everywhere is fine and is a right. Some people need to drive. Not everyone. The Mayoral Strategy in place has achieved London being the city with the lowest carbon emissions. That’s a fantastic achievement. There is more to do and we are all responsible for doing our part.
-
You could look at it differently and say the number of cars is the problem and people driving when there are other means of travel. I welcome fewer cars and less pollution and carbon impact.
-
With the Mayoral election coming up, I've yet to see anything specific from Susan Hall - other than she will look for more money and make savings. Where do you think the money she has pledged for the £200m injection into the police will come from? thin air? removal of fares freeze? council tax increases? While ULEZ is unpopular, the aim is to reduce air pollution and the current Mayor is making very good ground in getting London to be Carbon Neutral by 2030. Do we really want a tory government AND a tory mayor? that's rhetorical.

Southwark Council crowdfunding for green projects
Jules-and-Boo replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Funding has been cut, that’s not disputed. Councils should have balanced budgets, and they should prioritise what they spend money on. The £11.5m “waste of money” is unfortunate but let’s not forget it happens on a wider and larger scale… Boris spent £50m on consultants to design the Garden Bridge, and the government have handed out huge contracts to private companies. There is clearly a bigger problem than Southwark asking for crowdfunding. -

Southwark? Or the Government? -
Thanks Archie,

Probably not, Alice. Never mind

It is beautiful but it’s only how it’s been done. It’s not structurally amazing and the garden is basic. There are some fab interior designers in Dulwich, you can make your own home look like a show home thing is, it’s foreign investors that are also in the market, or did you think that all rented properties are owned by locals?
-
Inigo is an estate agents that interior designs/ decorates it’s for sale houses so they all have the same earthy tones. And then inflate prices. It’s mainly aimed at people who don’t have the imagination to decorate with colour or any skills at interior design. Vastly overpriced. Larger and more substantial houses in market for less
