  1. safest inside......have even had one stolen from the back garden before.
  2. leaving and packing my bags as we speak.
  3. a large tall fridge - the undercounter one I had would tend to keep things in tha back at the bottom I could never reach..... an eye level built in over and a fast washing machine (with dryer built in) lots of workspace a double sink dishwasher (can't believe I never thought you could actually have two - so thanks for that tip!)
  4. Please get in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support - they offer all levels of support - information, nurses, help for the family, advice about all types of things....even help with forms for benefits. I'm sorry to hear your dad's ill.
  5. Yes - it's in my house! started around Christmas, thought it had gone and came back with a vengence. Even my fingers ache. Ginger tea and lemon helps but it's stubborn.
  6. we did one in Brockwell Park and split them into teams (blue team , red team and so on) - so they could only find their own coloured clues (and therefore not swarm in one big mass!)
  7. We're thinking of letting one of our spare rooms, just wondering if anyone has any experiences - positive or otherwise! I think it could be quite a good idea but have normal reservations...
  8. .
  9. the main beneficiaries are the college and private schools, which are fee paying - how is that tangible public benefit to the community at large in the form of : Education (originally to twelve poor scholars)?
  10. Edward Alleyn origially created a charitable foundation and gave to it his property to support the education of the poor. AS the schools which are the beneficiaries of his foundation no longer support education of the poor and are only for wealthy families, I hope the man is not turning in his grave. His original intention was clear. The charity has become a business to support the wealthy.
  11. Personlly, I am shocked at the rip off prices in a particular 'child-orientated' toy shop - yes, the one complaining about the increased rent. Perhaps they're more worried about their profits dipping than not being there for the kiddies..... (also have a shop along LL, so not too far away for the little ones to trek. And another one in Clapham and another one somewhere far away.... Buiness = money - it's their own model. No point complaining when you are the one feeling the pinch As for the landlord - same goes.
  12. you can buy tickets on line, but I really prefer someone to help me find the right option. We travelled over Christmas and the chap at DH found me a ticket at ?60 cheaper than the first price that jumped up (very happy!). Makes me have little confidence we will be sold the cheapest ticket. And what to do when you realise you've bought the wrong ticket? I tried to buy an open return before but it gave me a day return ... and surprise - no one to ask/ help and I ended up having to buy a second ticket with no recourse.
  13. sorry, but the idea of buying someone's home cooked offerings doesn't appeal - unless it was a very high spec kitchen with a million cleanliness regulations upheld.
  14. maybe there was an event/ private party? is this a regular Saturday night occurence? usually talking to (or emailing, perhaps?) would be a good start.
  15. no idea who that was - had to google it - former editor-in-chief of The Guardian. Guess that's a valid 'calim to fame'?
  16. no, but you could cut a plastic bottle down it's length and wrap it around the base of the plant to protect it. You could even dig it into the soilto stop any surface crawlers / slugs etc
  17. Farmers and Greetings are our favourites. Helium ballons and anything you can possibly need. Love shops like that - and the people there are so lovely. Could do with losing FatFace who were "too busy" to help me or the awful expensive smelly candle/ incense shop (name evades me) who distressed my daughter for accusing her of stealing - when she wsa just looking. Nice. Making little kids cry - maybe best to talk to their grown ups first.
  18. yes - odd..... huge info on the internet about an area. Wonder why finding a local forum is easier?
  19. We only go to Sainsbury's to look for Famous People..... and certainly never when there's a DHFC home game.... Football's far more exciting....
  20. It's people like this that give parents a bad name.
  21. LL has a fantastic array of world cuisine. We're actually really lucky. Maybe a bit saturated....but not complaining - I love it. I did like the SeaCow very much - the staff were always lovely and it's a pity that the increase of rent does deprive us. If the same is going to happen to the other restaurants, then it may well be that we see the clsure of more nad the replacement by chains. Look out for Cafe Rouge, Pizza Express and so on. I really would rather this did not happen, but who has influecnce over landlords? If they can get an increase, then they will.
  22. Brockwell Park has an annual event - the Country Show which also has a stage and bands - perhaps something free for everyone would be better. The idea of having to buy a ticket to enjoy an event on your local park is becoming too normal that it is acceptable. I disagree - while it does allow crowd control, this is not what it's all about at all - it's about making money. It shouldn't be - it should be about the community and covering costs at the most.
  23. yet to bump into Jason Statham.....but keep wishing
  24. you could get him a brother. They are very strong pack animals.
  25. I would have loved to come, but we had other things planned. It's really important and very special that the community do something that anyone can come along to. I know some people who have been on their own this Christmas and New Year. I wish they'd realised how welcome they would have been. Happy New Year ED!
