  1. interesting , been thinking about making the switch , really frustrated with Windows constant upgrades and peformance degradation.. sometimes I've spent my entire weekend trying to sort out basic windows issues .. total nightmare
  2. Over the last few months I have contacted several recommended trades people from this forum to carry out roofing work, electrical and plumbing for several properties in East Dulwich /Forest Hill , Unfortunately not a single one has responded , really is a waste of time. I'll stick with My Builder going forward
  3. Quick for recommendation Dave from Down the Drain 07919 107868 . Having been let down by a company from Yellow Pages, I found Dave on EDF, he turned up promptly , good communications , carried out the work efficiently , very honest, even advised me that Thames Water could do the work I required for free
  4. Hi I recently used I would highly recommend Dave from Down the Drain 07919 107868 Very reliable and honest, even advised me that Thames Water would do what I requested for free , how's that for honesty
  5. Just a quick recommendation for Ross / Tegan Services 07850 280012 he just did some plastering and damp proofing for my property in East Dulwich, good communications always, turns up promptly, very reliable and a high standard of finishing as well
  6. I used them once for a rental property but wouldn't use them again
  7. Only replying because I thought this was a tribute thread to the album by Led Zep but misread the title

  9. Donkey Alley should be twinned with Jackass Lane in Bromley, BR4, used to live there
  10. You get some classic announcements, one I remember last year was, "we apologize for the late arrival of train XXX this was due to an attempted hijacking of the train by a passenger"

Moos it's the ability to come up with expressions such as that
  12. The problem with areas like East Dulwich, Dulwich and Herne Hill is that they're too close to the front line for comfort, so when the revolution happens we won't be able to get out quickly enough
  13. INDOMIE Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why do people think this forum gets so many more > comments that se5forum and dare i say it even the > might se1 forum? I've lived in SE23 and Bromley areas and forums there aren't a scratch on ED forum. For example the SE23 forum gets about 10 posts per month. I think this would a good topic for a PHD sociology student. Possible reasons why ED forum is so successful: a) ED has a higher percentage of residents who can read and write than neighbouring boroughs b) It's a manifestation of the omnipresent Clapham literary gene which ED residents possess c) Technical reasons - forum has good design, layout etc d) East Dulwich has a higher percentage of residents who are confirmed bachelors
  14. I was at Heber school circa 1972/1973. Have fond memories of the place. Our tutor was a very old fashioned disciplinarian grammar school type teacher called Mr Hatton (aka Atom Bomb) , he could speak 7 languages fluently including Latin.

The shop was an off-licence for years before becoming the world's worst bathroom center.
  16. strange place, used to be a bathroom centre. I heard that it will become the world's first vegan kosher halal gluten free restaurant.
  17. Matthew123, BBC link, enter post code, then select the Borough and then click on the tab for flat, terraced etc to get the breakdown
  18. I think the average price is very misleading due to the smaller number of sales , this distorts the figure. Some properties in the UK may drop to or are at 2004 levels, but the figures vary tremendously by borough to borough. New builds will take a big knock due to over supply and they're over priced. Southwark flat prices have stood up well, in fact saw an increase of 6.8% for the last quarter . Some boroughs have seen a reduction of 20%_ e.g. Barnet. You can check out the % price change by type of property by borough at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7807724.stm
  19. Hi Gemma Options are : 1) 3 mintute walk to Underhill Road and catch the P13 to ED station..not sure how frequent this service is 2) Walk to the Plough or Upland Road and catch any of the buses heading North on Lordship Lane to ED station 3) 3 minute walk to Forest Hill Rd, catch 63 bus to Peckham Rye station 4) 5 minute walk to Upland Rd/Plough catch any of the buses to Forest Hill station, I thnik there are 3 buses you can catch. Advantage of Forest Hill is that during rush hour there's a train to London Bridge every 5 to 8 minutes, journey time to London Bridge is about 12 - 15 minutes. I wonder what others do who live on Crebor/Dunstans Rd etc
  20. I lived in Forest Hill for a while and my property never suffered from structural problems, however, as the area suffers higher than average incidence of subsidence, many of the insurance companies refused to provide me with building insurance. No simple solution other than shopping around but a lot but there will only be a limited number of companies who'll insure you. Sometimes you get a better deal and advice from an independent insurance broker rather than price comparison sites. Perhaps you could suggest a higher excess limit should subsidence re-occur. ?76 is high but not exorbitant for SE22. I know people paying about ?60 per month with contents insurance included for East Dulwich
  21. word on the street is that Osama Bin Laden has been apprehended in Nunhead
