  1. Peckham Rye was the best bread around, but it went downhill as they baked it for less time in the last year. I ate there once, but I couldn?t hear any of my friends above the nursery. I think the bread was great until they took their eye off the ball. The second lease was a mistake. In the end, amazing bread that went downhill, terrible business plan. Don?t get me wrong, I would happily contribute to a community bread shop with the Brick House team being the bakers and continuing as an ?independent?, but with a business model that didn?t depend on the buggy brigade and the one coffee thanks for the free internet during the day, it was never going to make enough money.
  2. Labour will have another Brexit poll, so it?s not a done deal of out or in if you vote Labour. Brexit will take years anyway, so ?Get Brexit done? is just brainless. Personally issues such as the NHS, social care and Windrush/Grenfell have more impact on my voting choices. The EU is a failing institution and the USA is just crazy. In or out of the EU... I vote remain, but now I don?t care, but I don?t want a Tory Government for 5 more years... there has already been too many deaths caused by this uncaring bunch.
  3. It?s strange...sometimes it is great, then next time a bit poor.
  4. Happens on ED Grove, council will not do anything about vibration from traffic speed bumps, but they might fix potholes. I had a lengthy discourse about 3 years ago with them. 4K of acoustic glass has helped the noise, but skips going over speed bumps sound like an explosion 💥
  5. Yes and I have heard it before. No idea what it is.
  6. Get a veg box, seasonal and fresh. The one I get has different potato types in the general box and they always taste amazing. I hardly ever buy veg from Sainsbury?s. I like their organic meat and some things in the vegan range for my partner are really good. The veg isn?t that great, with the exception of tomatoes and herbs.
  7. Apologies for copying from my comment on another thread but..Over 25 years the traffic on East Dulwich Grove has become worse and worse. Every time there is a new set of lights or a new traffic calming hump or island put in it just makes it worse. There is either long queues of traffic at rush hour or speeding traffic at other times, with cars not stopping at pedestrian crossings or racing across speed bumps at ridiculous speeds. The pollution is also terrible. It is an A road but it is also a residential area and has 3 schools. Closing other roads and not planning globally across the road system combined with a preference to please residents in more expensive housing areas has pushed more traffic onto this road. I have lived on this road for all this time and the traffic is worse than ever, when the new school and health centre were planned, someone should have considered the impact.

  9. Did it myself. Most banks, mortgage lenders have a form you fill in and send with any supporting evidence (original agreement or old correspondence), and a covering letter. Cost me a first class stamp. I have no financial or legal background, but it seemed straightforward. I got 10k back.
  10. It?s lovely in there and very important for the community to support local libraries.
  11. I personally don?t like it and didn?t like the other mural being disscussed here. I don?t think his murals are particularly my taste, I find them a bit crass. All the other street art in ED has made me smile, laugh or amazed me. I really miss the house which was covered with art that was demolished, but art is subjective. As for bringing politics into whether art/music is acceptable is a whole can of worms and asks the question how far back in history one goes. Wagner, Ezra Pound, TS Elliot and yep....Morrissey. Maybe it would be a better use of people?s energy to be concerned about and fight against the worrying rise of the racist and anti Semitic far right across Europe.
  12. That is brilliant! Thank you
  13. RIP Harry Leslie Smith. A caring and inspiring human. ♥️
  14. ?Do the shake and vac and put the freshness back? etc.
  15. Hate the speed bumps/skips. Contacted Southwark Council and they basically told me to bog off and put up with it.
  16. Acoustic windows...expensive but truly amazing. It?s part of city life unfortunately.
  17. I?m completely opposed. I live in the ward that James is a councillor, one I voted for and posted leaflets through many doors for, so I hope he pays attention. My partner depends on the 40 to work in a homeless project near LB. without the 40 his already long shifts would be longer due to lack of transport options. The 40 needs to remain the same.
  18. We need an ED cider press!
  19. Two of the bottles tasted like vinegar. I don?t know about the other because a young male friend returned that bottle.
  20. A few friends of mine and myself conducted a little unofficial study on being ignored by staff in a local wine shop/ eatery that has now changed hands three times. The time taken to be acknowledged seemed to be related to gender and age in the main...there were other factors. There was also a marked difference to attitudes to retuning wine that we said was ?off? or ?corked?, not part of the study, but three of us used the place to buy wine and we all had returned a bad bottle.
  21. Speckled wood butterfly in the garden today...nice.

    Hot air

Hot air balloon in ED? I used to crew for a private pilot....so very unusual for one to fly ?in town?.
  24. Maybe JAGs has changed, but I was a member a while back and the early mornings were very restrictive for lane swimming. It was also the same price as a place I used to go to when working at the Royal Brompton in pricey Chelsea, but at the Chelsea gym you got a towel, lovely changing rooms and could swim anytime, so I left JAGs in the end as the pool was unavailable when I could go and it didn?t offer enough for the price. I liked the pool though, so if it has changed I might try again.
  25. I love the lido, but didn?t really get on with the women?s facilities- changing area and lockers. Found it difficult for me. Also gets a bit crazy, busy in the Summer and slightly too far for a daily 20 min swim, but it is a fantastic local spot and I?m glad it?s open and thriving. Dulwich is working out fine, so thank you everyone for your comments and help.
