  1. http://cheerful.libsyn.com/episode-9-transgender-rights-are-human-rights Interesting podcast.
  2. Actually ours will be on the market soon - so just buy ours - 2 beds, and a really lovely cellar 😂
  3. 16k to tank with sump pump drainage for a 20sq metre. Up to 70 - 100k to dig down if reduced height and all the legal fees for change of use, party walls, decorating, fixtures/fittings. Be warned - most outfits are cowboys using very cheap labour. We went for the 18k tanking, with huge sump pump, backup battery, drainage, electrics and professional plastering, through a highly reputable company, keeping the limited height 5.5 ft high, as will be just for storage. But, although looking good now, mainly due to our DIY efforts after the cowboys had finished, the whole process was awful. Dust, dirt, took 5 more days than quoted 5 days quoted, mainly because they turned up late, had a 2 hour lunch break and left early, resulting in a 4 hour working day, they threw all their left over paint and rubbish in one of our built-in cupboards in the cellar- and that was with one of us on site to try and site-manage. The sub-contracted electrician was the only highlight, he even re-wired some faults from a previous cowboy for free. My advice is closely manage, write in the contract that they have to take a fixed amount of money off the final cost for every day over - and check around before paying a penny over the deposit. We have had to do all the painting, skirting, flooring - so add about just below 1k to make it a room. It is looking good now, so do it - but be prepared to turn to a lot of gin to get you through the mayhem.
  4. That?s a shame
  5. Living with a musician, I spend a lot of time listening to music both live and recorded. Music in pubs is often played through terrible sound systems and turned up so loud it becomes distorted. The music choice is often some cheap mix as well. Personally I prefer a pub with no music so I can chat to my friends, but if there is music, if it starts to annoy me (too loud, awful distortion), then I'll ask them to turn it down, if they don't then I will go drink/eat somewhere else.
  6. I miss it too...
  7. Maybe we can send The Village emergency supplies from The East?
  8. If you are a health professional and can administer basic life support for someone having a coronary event or possible TIA you are the first responder if asked to help. One of the GPs or practice nurses should have responded as they should all be up to date with BLS skills as per NHS statutory training. There isn't anything else to say on the matter.
  9. trying to get to King's A&E, saw the police cordon and thought they might help??
  10. I miss Seacow....
  11. Me too Tractorlad 😆
  12. Plant it in your garden if possible. Mine is 25 years old now and in a very dry spot...
  13. Riverford organic veg box. The carrots are also tasty.
  14. Actually greenfinches..not sure.. Also if your niger seed is old, discard it as dry seeds won't attract birds.
  15. And/or greenfinches
  16. Siskin, redpoll? But you would be very lucky to get those. Goldfinches are usually in groups - maybe your one finch is keeping his discovery to himself!
  17. For lots of goldfinches put up a niger seed feeder and they will find it, I'm always amazed how quickly they appear when it goes up every Winter. My favourites in the garden have to be coal tits though. Occasional visitors unfortunately. Parakeets and squirrels quarrelling over the sunflower seeds always amuses :)

  20. A Jewish bakery could refuse to bake a cake that says Vote Corbyn as this would not be illegal discrimination due to race/ gender/ religion/ sexual orientation, so if they wished they could say no and despite what the Daily Fail says the Jewish population in the U.K. do have a range of political beliefs. http://www.jlm.org.uk/cable_street_80. If a bakery made a cake that prompted race hatred it would be against the law, so they could also refuse. No can of worms.
  21. M&S this morning opened late, only one (very pleasant) person on the till and no cherry cake! Might start going to the co-op again if it gets its act together.
  22. Brickhouse makes a good coffee and the bread is great too. The staff are either charming or rude depending on the phase of the moon though.....
  23. My front garden pots and planters are all recycled junk... The plants look pretty in them, but no one can be bothered to nick them. Although a couple of years ago someone nicked a chilli plant in a nice pot. I hope they made the mistake of eating them because they were volcano hot.
  24. The park is fine to cycle in, just need to be a bit careful at the weekends as dogs and children will run across the road without any warning. I tend to cycle slowly anyway and usually everyone is very good natured and I like watching the dogs have fun in the park. The only two times I have witnessed angst is a woman on roller blades going very quickly having a go at a dog owner because she had to swerve to not hit the dog and a pedestrian who had a go at me (a bit sweary in front of his kids) when I rang my little toy town bell on my bike to warn them I was behind them. No accounting for shouty people really.
  25. This is such a brilliant idea. Some of us don't like heated pools or swimming inside. I don't think this is a 'hipster' thing Louisa/ Foxy, I'm over 50, not a 'hipster' whatever that means....and have lived at least half of that in ED. Brockwell is great, but it's not my local. The thought of being able to walk 10 mins to an outside pool is inspiring. My younger friends who train for triathlon would use the lido all year round and the people who swim in the Serpentine all year round are a real mix of ages, ability, cultures (and 'class' if we have to bring such a thing into this). I really hope this happens - it will be good for everyone in this area. Come on get behind a great idea, swimming is a perfect way of keeping fit and healthy - money well spent I think.
