Or you could drive down Denmark Hill with Ruskin Park on your left, turn right at the lights before King's, go along past Denmark Hill train station and turn left where the iron statues are which leads straight down to Morrisons car park.

Do not use the ATM at Tesco's Crystal Palace Road
minder replied to ianmyoplex's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hope you get it sorted ianmy! This happened to me going back years ago at Sainsburys, Dog Kennel and nobody in the store could help me. I tried and insisted to get a deputy manager to open up the ATM to get my card back with no avail! He just said it's down to the actual bank. -

Interested in forming a Mandarin immersion playgroup?
minder replied to cirrus29's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sounds great but just remember not to exclude anybody who is not fluent in Mandarin i.e. Mandarin immersion? They might be a grandparent or a carer not familiar with the language. I was excluded from a group around 8 years ago for being "rather too English" even though I spoke the basic (and I mean basic) language! -
Maybe the aupair is just taking in all what she is expected to do? i.e looking after your 3 year old? As you say it's only been a week or so to get used to things so let the au pair get on with it in her own way?

Do feel for you! Living next door to a park we get the same thing and the blokes are wearing big earmuffs so they're oblivious to anything going on around them but at 7.30am on a weekend it's a bit annoying. Then again, why do the Police have to put their sirens on in a quiet residential area at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5am in the morning when coming through the area? -
Joining state primary school - year 3 entry

Class shouldn't have anything to do with it but as a free school Judith Kerr do promote the German language so if you want your child to be around everybody speaking German then it's a choice. -

I had to think for a minute, but totally understand where you're coming from landsberger! -
Was only recently the trees disappeared. I drove through the village last week and noticed how open the whole area approaching the roundabout seemed because these lovely trees were gone. According to the Dulwich Society all trees in the area are protected by a conservation order so wonder why they were just left as stumps?

Yes, Piplings is in ED and has been on the Southwark Council website for a few years now since the Forest Hill nursery site closed down.

Mum did have some good times there and many friends were made. Most of the boys were a good bunch too!

My Mum worked in the kitchens at William Penn for many years as a cook/dinner lady. She passed away 2 years ago but the stories she told me.

60,000 hellosailor? I don't doubt you and that is shocking! My daughter is away at university in her second year and has tried to access a doctor's appointment. I can't remember the last time she went to the doctor and so I know she is desperate. I've even offered to phone on behalf of her but she doesn't want me to. Apparently they have an on-line booking system! So daughter wouldn't be able to get an appointment until nearly two weeks away. -
I bought some of my records in Woolworths, Camberwell, Brixton and Peckham (from the mid 70s). Then most, including my lovers rock collection in the early 80s and other 12" were bought from the A1 stores in Walworth Road. From the front the A1 looked like it only sold ornaments and lighting.

Not good at all. I thought the library had an overhaul a little while ago? Especially the children's library with lots of new mats and little tables and chairs and art activities? My youngest is 17 tomorrow and wanted something called a kindle? Let's just hope The Carnegie can keep going for the sake of the local community and beyond!

Shepards in Dulwich Village to become a Sainsbury's?

Probably the sweet shop was where the barbers shop is now. -
Shepards in Dulwich Village to become a Sainsbury's?
minder replied to ElliotW's topic in The Lounge
It's funny how things change. I just remember walking home from Kingsdale with my sisters and friends through the village to get to the sweet shop just past where Shepards is now. There were two ladies serving. The queue went out of the doorway. Don't know what Shepards was then and the old sweet shop is long gone somewhere along the row of shops there. -
Charter School East - consultations
minder replied to @Woodwarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just to say I live within the CPZ planned to come into effect next January in North Dulwich (although I pm'd James Barber today as he seems certain it will but residents have not been informed of the decision) but most people living in the area can't wait. We went to see the plans during the Summer and had to make comments and vote on papers given to every household in the area. A while ago I wouldn't have wanted a CPZ but since the introduction of a CPZ over the road in Denmark Hill by Lambeth, it just pushed all the cars looking to park somewhere over to the Denmark Hill Estate and roads like Red Post Hill, Sunray Avenue, Casino Avenue, Elmwood Road, Beckwith Road, which are a few minutes walk from The Charter. I don't know if teachers from The Charter park on these streets as they have a small car park at the school. We find it's mainly people coming in (sometimes from miles away) to use Denmark Hill, Herne Hill and North Dulwich train stations and the P4/42 bus routes. There's lots of workers from King's parking here and then jumping on the 42. You see them with their lanyards round their necks, parking and rushing for the bus. Also people parking and then jumping on the P4 to get to Brixton tube. There's even cyclists who pull up in their cars and get their bikes out the back and cycle off. There's no let up really, only at weekends when it's safe to move your car! School holidays don't seem to make any difference for ease of parking as said it's not mostly teachers parking. When we went to see the plans, it did seem that it would push the problem somewhere else. -

Bessemer children's centre - plans to close...

I thought it closed down a while ago due to the new 2 year old provision which started beginning of September?
