I'm guessing it was a 7+ % imported draught IPA, in which case that's not outrageous. These are genuinely premium beers (unlike, say, draught Peroni) for which you're bound to pay more - they're imported in small quantities and are much stronger than ordinary domestic beers. Without pointing the finger at you specifically, I get exasperated by people who can't or won't see that there are genuinely 'better' or more interesting beers for which a premium is (justifiably) charged. No-one walks into a wine shop, for instance, and goes, "?15 for a bottle of wine?! I can get a bottle of wine in Tesco for ?3.99!" And I'm aware that there are rip-off 'craft beers' that don't deliver - much as there are overpriced wines - but the principle stands. On a different note, I only drink strong IPAs in halves - or even thirds. Otherwise I'd get really pissed really quickly...

There's nothing wrong with Cinema Paradiso (now defunct) or the very occasional screenings above the EDT and in the park, but there's no comparison between them and a 'full time' cinema. The problem for independents is having to show big movies to pay the bills. In my experience, a chain like the Curzon is more likely to show 'art' films than a struggling independent. In fact, how many 'independent' cinemas are there in London with regular programming. The Riverside, the Phoenix... er...
  3. Standing next to the exit door on buses even when there's space elsewhere. Driver waits at every stop to see if you get off. Wastes a second or two every time. And with 18,000 bus stops in London, that's a whole lot of wasted bloody time.
  4. Mmmmm - Curzon! Comfiest seats in London.
  5. C'mon, you're not going to change car drivers' behaviour by grandstanding. Yes, lobby for improvements for cyclists, but in the meantime accept the world as it is not how you want it to be. London is currently a potentially dangerous place for cyclists. Adjust accordingly - I'd hate to think that cyclists' deaths are being used as a political lobbying weapon.
  6. It's less than a stone's throw from our house. I have no problem with it being there. Next scare, please...
  7. Hello Fortis, Do you have an interest in the matter, seeing that this is your first post?

It would help if the Council had a policy of planting native trees. Many non-natives might look pretty but have nowhere near the diversity of insect life, fungi etc that are essential for diversity. I think the Council has expressed a preference for planting native trees "wherever appropriate", but every tree planted in our road in the last few years has been non-native. I'm surprised that the London Wildlife Trust, which collaborates with the Council on tree-planting strategy, seem to be happy with this.

It's just a shame they spent tens of thousands on redoing some of the crossings, the Townley Road / Calton Avenue junction and the junction's road surface not much more than a year ago. Joined-up thinking is only a dream when there's someone else's cash to be spent.

So repeatedly correcting someone is 'hunting', is it? Makes you wonder what a forum is for...
  12. Not been impressed by an online copy of the menu and the price of a pint? You're right, we should judge it without even going through the door.
  13. Well, aren't we all rays of f*cking sunshine?
  14. sedm Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If the number of people who claim they read the > Guardian actually did read it, the circulation > figures wouldn't be what they are. *ahem* Well maybe they do - online for free. Why buy the paper? The Guardian's continuing losses in the tens of millions a year are only sustained by the cash cow of the GMG's "Auto Trader" sell-off. Liberal eco-awareness being subsidised by the petroleum economy. Nice irony there.
  15. Hi Sue, Yes it is, although they have collecting buckets for donations.
  16. From their Facebook page: "Big day today with lots of meetings but the restaurant opening date is now set in stone - there will be a star studded Press and VIP night on Monday the 11th November but the restaurant will be taking bookings from Tuesday the 12th November - and that's official !!! Bookings by email at [email protected] or by telephone on 0208 2992068"
  17. Blackheath has an excellent display. It's usually very busy, but spreads out over a huge area.
  18. These folks collect used cooking oil in Southwark and turn it into biodiesel, but only from pubs, restauarants and so on, I think: http://www.uptownoil.co.uk/vegetable_oil_collection.html It would be nice to have a collecting point(s) for domestic oil, perhaps. Biodiesel from waste oil is the one biofuel that makes sense economically and ecologically.
  19. It's the other zebra crossing nearer Lordship Lane that's being raised. As far as I can see from these plans, the one near MG/EDG is to be untouched it seems.
  20. Brilliant! Well done to all.
  21. spider69 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Would love to see tired old and young children, > bikes, dogs and toys etc etc being taken on a bus > or walking for 30 minutes after a days expedition > to the local park or one reached by travel So how far are you from one or more of the parks and spaces I mentioned? 30 minutes was the maximum walk. "Day's expedition" is just silly...
  22. But a park clogged with cars is undesirable for all park users, so proposals to limit them are worth considering. There are thousands of activities that are perfectly legal, but society chooses to restrict or control them for the benefit of all. Your convenience does not trump all other considerations. And here's a list of parks and open spaces where kids (and adults) can roam free - and all within about half an hour's walk or 15 mins on a bus from the middle of East Dulwich: Belair Park, Peckham Rye Common, Peckham Rye Park, Sunray Gardens, Ruskin Park, Horniman Gardens, Sydenham Hill Wood, Brockwell Park, Telegraph Hill, One Tree Hill, Brenchley Gardens, Warwick Gardens and Dawsons Hill. You could try using your local space.
  23. James, just thought I'd flag up my comment on the thread about pavements. Any help would be gratefully received. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1193992,page=2 >
