Thought these days were behind me.... Decided young master snowboarder was ready to start having just the one nap/day - as is now 16 months - he's been having great naps for a while now at 9 and 2, but waking up super early in the morning. Not a good decision - seemed fine until had hysterics over early lunch and screamed himself to sleep at 12.30. Woke screaming again at 1.10 and no more sleep. Earlyish bedtime seemed fine until 5 mins after put to bed when screamed for 10/15 mins (went in, nothing wrong) - v unusual - lately has been taking a while to fall asleep but sounded perfectly happy. Have very bed feeling for tonight now too!! Am distraught that have totally thrown everything, and don't know whether now to persevere OR give up, he's clearly not ready, and go back to previous routine. Tsk. Bad day.

Claire35 - do come - first wed in September - talk from Dulwich Picture Gallery. Nothing too frivolous about that? I believe if members have a good idea for an event and can actually help with the organisation they are only too welcome to propose it, and in addition there is a yearly 'ideas' session as part of one of the meetings. There don't seem to be many members actually posting on the thread - so I would just like to add some balance and say I do see the monthly meets as primarily a social event where I either get tasters of things I would never normally do (lack of time/inclination etc.) or listen to some great talks (on anything from womens health to gardening). And I've always had a fun evening and met some lovely people. Sorry if this seems hopelessly unadventurous to some....

Does anyone else's child speak Sea Lion?
snowboarder replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ok, I wasn't too worried but have had a msg that suggests maybe I should be! None of bsb's friends say much either. Oh dear! -
Oh! I had a lovely evening making bunting!! Never sewed in my life save the odd button so it was fun, I got to chat to friendly people and have a drink. A rare night out for me though - have to admit to being a mum with small child. Hope that doesn't put anyone off..... Sorry you didn't enjoy it elderflower.

Does anyone else's child speak Sea Lion?
snowboarder replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The only thing my 16 month old (boy) can say is Oh-Oh. Which he repeats again and again. Other than that he talks a lot, but it appears to be in a foreign language. It IS frustrating as he walked pretty smartish so thought we were progressing well. He has a couple of signs (from sing and sign) - most widely used is 'more' which seems to mean more/again/i want/do this. HE gets frustrated too when I don't get what the pointing is about. -

Heya sounds good. The Mag? (not that it's my nearest pub, or anything....) -
Reusable nappies - when did you start?
snowboarder replied to akc74's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello - think we started at about 8-10 weeks, after messing about with bimbles that were almost immediately too small etc. Finally settled on bambinex and flexitots with tots wrap - I never bothered with a liner for the milk only poo - just washed as they were! The sun does remarkable things to yellow poo stains - my set still look great. Have completely changed tack now I have a robust wriggly 16 month old - all in ones (no time to faff with wraps!) and paper liners much more successful with solid poo. Disposables at night though - too many leaks at the end of last year and decided wasn't worth the hassle. 'Sposies for holidays etc too.... -
dummies / pacifiers and how to avoid using them?
snowboarder replied to benjaminty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My little boy was similarly 'sucky' and I decided no dummies (why?!? Think thought would never get it off him if I gave it to him) - so in mad post natal state I spent many hours letting him suck my little finger...He then found his thumb and has sucked that happily ever since. I have NO idea how I'm going to get his thumb off him - almost wish had given him the dummy.... -
Ruth - as you know we got outside help in with baby snowboarder - the costs were not totally prohibitive (well - compared to Babington House!) but I expect they vary dep on who/what you get/do. I think the most important thing if you go down this route is to ensure that you are fully signed up to the method(s) whoever you get to help you employs - or it will never work. I basically put all activities etc on hold for about 2 months and had steely determination to make night and day sleeps work. PM me if you want an idea of what we paid. Good luck....and have a lovely night away - I have not managed that yet even with bsb at 16 months!

Looking for a suction bowl that actually works...
snowboarder replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nothing works if they are determined. I can't operate the unbelievabowl, plus as crystal7 whole meal then comes about unlocking the bowl. Bought a babybjorn yesterday - made no difference, still tipped up. Minor successes with fairly basic jojomamanbebe suction bowl. Basically just use the high chair tray mostly. Am hoping for improvement by age 5. Am pretty sure the gyrobowl would just be an EXCELLENT toy.... -
Dunno...it folds? That sounds pretty good. We have the antilop and like the way is upright and easy to clean. Not seen the babybjorn one in real life....
-
Just spent a happy half hour looking through the new jojo catalogue (I know, don't tell me, you've all been doing the same...), and I just thought these two items worthy of special mention. (Strangely not on jojo website, oh well This high chair thought looked pretty good (yeah expensive, but hey). This made me splutter tea all over the cat as thought looked so funny. Little things, eh, these days....

Monday again at the Horniman sandpit?
snowboarder replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had fun too. Have inherited a yellow sand sieve - pickle - is yours? Have they invented some kind of gps toddler-finder-system yet? Would be useful....towards the end had to rescue bsb as he was led off up the hill by small girl who adopted him.... -
Planned home birth, facing induction
snowboarder replied to anna_r's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The day before my little boy rocked up I cleared out the spare room and made about 6 car journeys to west norwood recycling place. I'm convinced it was all the speed bumps on the way that got things moving.... -

Toddler eaten a stone - should I worry?
snowboarder replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Mine ate a large white button that eas easily 50pence sized. I didn't know he had until I found in nappy. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.... -
Non baby friend, to me: 'oooh - what's all that on your shoulder?' Me, glancing then offhand: 'Snot.....' Perfectly normal.
