The waiting list at the villa is so long that when I called they wouldn't even put my baby's name down - this was I think around January when he was 9/10 months!

Will I ever sleep again..?!?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hmm - this is not sounding good. Don't drink coffee - the odd cup of tea but not every day so not a caffeine thing. Can't try the kalms/valerian stuff as still b/f the little monster. Never have naps or lie ins. Hubby reckons good old exercise will do the trick (but he would sleep through an earthquake). Am currently trying lavender oil on pillow and bach night rescue remedy and chamomilla...Tried the counting trick and got down to zero - argh!! Still. Baby sb slept till 7am this morning!!! So it's not all bad....Thanks for all tips though! -
Good vests for those who are breastfeeding
snowboarder replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Of all the weird and wonderful 'feeding' tops I have bought over the last year these were the best - http://www.breastvest.co.uk/products.htm - kind of a specific version of the pull down vest scenario - which is my second best option! These days don't bother - he doesn't want milk when we're out than goodness!! -
New Mothercare on Old Kent Road
snowboarder replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh please report back! Is there parking? And is there a cafe?? I'm such a wimp I don't tend to stray that far from the confines and comfort of East Dulwich (!) but could be tempted by shiny shopping opportunities... -
Will I ever sleep again..?!?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hmm. Has anyone actually tried any sleep 'remedies' or pills - natural or otherwise? -
So the snowboarding family sleep sagas continue. But this time it's me who can't sleep!! Babysb has improved over the last couple of months and now usually sleeps through to 5ish...but I am awake on and off from the early hours of the morning, and totally awake listening out for him from about 4.30. Too annoying - do you think that having children means you will never have a good night's sleep again?!? Either dealing with waking children or awake worrying about them! I collapse around 10.30pm fine so it's not a hot milk/bath scenario...seriously considering some kind of sleeping pills!

Good classes for a nearly 13 month old?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yep we do sing and sign already. He doesn't love it to be honest - mostly he wanders around moving bits of furniture around - but I like it!! Gymbabes is good so I was looking for more active stuff - roll on little kickers and diddidance!! Annoying little bubbles times don't work out for us - soon maybe. -
ps - with the nap improvement it has taken a LONG time (8 wks!) and consistently doing it every single day...boring but beginning to be worth it....

Gah these babies....well I can report change in the nap dept - the 2/3/4 thing never really worked for us. Maybe she's not tired enough? At 11 months we started a new regime where babysb goes for a nap at 9am and 2pm. He wakes at about 5.30 (ugh) so it's a good 3.5 hrs till first nap - and he has started having an hour (plus sometimes!) then, and then 4 hrs or so till next sleep. It sounds really regimented, but it is somehow working. We also do a pre nap routine of nappy/story/bit of milk then I put him in his cot and leave - so he can mess around all he likes but he is getting the message the best idea is just to go to sleep! I also don't go to him straight away once he wakes up but yeah, he rarely goes back once he's really woken up. As for the dust and spoon issues, sadly this only seems to get worse. I found a button in his nappy yesterday, so clearly he's not only eating dust. Spoons fly everywhere here - he also has an obsession with wooden spoons, and food and water beakers are flung around the kitchen with gay abandon.....I don't expect this to improve for some time but am trying not to show how much it annoys me!!

Buggies backcarriers and planes...advice please
snowboarder replied to KBN's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We took a buggy and framed rucksack carrier to Oz at christmas but checked in the carrier - it came with a travel bag. We had an ergo for possible slow return of buggy....travelling light as usual..... -
Good classes for a nearly 13 month old?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Naps starting to work yes (please don't let this public announcement jinx them!) - after 8 long weeks of putting babysnowboarder in his cot at 9am and 2pm he is now having more or less an hour each time...wow... -
baby groups recommended for a 3mth baby?
snowboarder replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We really enjoyed bumps and babes on a Friday morning at st faiths just past north Dulwich station. Nice and small and friendly and you get tea made for you and biscuits! There aren't that many things suitable for really little ones...at 6 months we then did sing and sign and gymbabes (still do!). -
Good classes for a nearly 13 month old?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh just looked them up - sounds good but 9.45 too early for us as still having a morning nap. Seems that they are at 9.45 at all the other venues for younger ones too - annoying!! -
Ladies (and men) wot (pub) lunch
snowboarder replied to mockney piers's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Nap dependent we'll be along c.3.30 Pickle... -
I feel we're moving onto the next stage of baby classes - young master snowboarder is now walking (running!) around and needs much exercise. We do sing and sign and gymbabes - what have others found good for this age group? There are so many different music type classes but I think one of those is enough really. Any hidden gems out there? We used to swim but the timings don't work with naps (!) at the moment....

what can you do with a four month old baby?
snowboarder replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
AND if he's sitting or you prop him up/bumbo baby SB liked knocking over towers of stacking cups (still one of fave toys! Good investment) and could just about bat little balls around. TV never worked for us - I have the baby einstein box set and he never even looked at it! Still not bothered at all by the telly... And splashing little bowls of water once it gets warmer... -
what can you do with a four month old baby?
snowboarder replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Door bouncer? My big strong baby loved his from 3 months till about 8 months - lots of fun, can chat to them and have cuppa as they are pretty safe, and tiring!! I did get a jumperoo but tbh he didn't like it as much and pretty expensive. Also got him in his bumbo from this age and he liked playing sitting up - even sat him in the gym in the bumbo. He started sitting pretty early too (4 months I as well I think) and could play more then surrounded by cushions. Otherwise yes - I struggled, and did lots of walking the streets!! -
I think the baby nest looks lovely!! Much better than a moses basket and might last longer too. We had a funny moment when babysnowboarder got too big for the moses basket (yep - 3 months!) but was too little and me not ready for him to go into the cot bed in his own room (cot bed too big for ours). We ended up stupidly buying a fancy 'travel' cot (v heavy not travel at all!) with bassinet to tide us over - disaster - I think that's when all our sleep problems began actually!! Anyway - this all made me think that next time it would be good to have a crib that is bigger than a moses basket that will last until 4/5 months and then transfer to cot bed.

New Mothercare on Old Kent Road
snowboarder replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is it closer than Croydon do you think? rydalema - why were you on the Old Kent Road at 6am??!? -
Naughty baby snowboarder LOVES opening all cupboards and drawers. After a nasty incident with a heavy cast iron pan and a small foot we have locks on every door!! Freakin' annoying. And stair gates as sliding down the stairs is fun. And little hand corner protectors from ikea. The cupboard locks we have can be turned round to allow normal opening of door when the little monster is in bed - think from mothercare.

Ladies (and men) wot (pub) lunch
snowboarder replied to mockney piers's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Baby snowboarder LOVES the slide at the Herne....only prob is he can't climb up to it on his own so I have to supervise....we're around tomorrow afternoon but generally more like 3.30 post nap... Mockney - there a dads group in Dulwich Village I think - may be more for toddlers - but saw it advertised in se22 mag... -
We're looking for entertainment tomorrow late morning/early lunch....Baby snowboarder (age 1!) likes playing football in the park...anyone around? Think supposed to be sunny but not very warm...
-
Dulwich Park Cafe our fave but v busy. Last week couldn't get a high chair at either P Rye or DP though on various days and had to relocate to the Plough/the Herne - pubs good on weekday lunchtimes! I'm too scared to re-try Green and Blue since a 6 month old baby snowboarder had a rather loud moment over lunch...shudders at the memory...Blue Mountain good but space limited. Apparently the cafe at Brockwell Lido is good? (Who says I just go out for lunch the whole time??!)
