Silly question re: washing newborn clothing
snowboarder replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Umm - I am obv v lazy - I never pre wash (I think I may have the first couple of things I bought before baby was born, but never again) - and we use bio as non bio just doesn't seem to do the job. But then I guess we are lucky and his skin doesn't seem too sensitive. What's the deal with fabric conditioner and tumble dryer sheet thingies - are they baddies too? -
We bought little snowboarder one of these for his 1st birthday in the hope it will last him ages. To be honest he's only getting the hang of it really now at 17m, but I like the fact it starts as a trike and can convert to a bike. Looks kid of cool too - no more bright plastic!!

Anything you can do about an early waking toddler?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It IS off now!! (on silent and turned away from me - next door child screams and I need to know that it's not mine at 3am!) -
Me too. Due March 1st-ish with second, little snowboarder 1 is currently 17 months. Double buggies and whether to buy another cot and where everyone should sleep once this baby is born on my list of concerns. Oh and the chocolate....must stop...do not want another huge baby. Or another c section if possible.

randomv Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Are you sure it has nothing to do with naps? I really don't think so unless I'm just doing it all wrong. We quit the morning nap recently as internet/book sleep gurus suggest that could help. No help. He now sleeps for a max of 2 hrs (if I'm lucky) from about 12.30 - 2.30. He's tired by bedtime and lights out at 7. He practically falls asleep over his lunch. He won't sleep for longer! So basically has a max of 12hrs sleep in a 24 hr period. Oh well I'll just keep going. Just wish I didn't hear him wake! I do know it could be (and was) a lot worse....Blimey when I think back..!! -
When, in others experience, do the converted cot beds get too small then? Are they a similar size to junior beds? Or would you go straight from cotbed to regular single? How many bed sizes are there?!? Agree though with the need to keep them behind bars for as long as possible!

Seriously IS there anything one can do? As I do every morning I have been awake since 5am listening to 17 month old hum and moan and try to get back to sleep. He hardly ever does. Getting up threshold is set at 6am so I don't go to him until then unless he's screaming. He seems to wake at this time regardless of light/dark mornings, the presence or not of planes, irrespective of bedtime or previous days naps. I'm tired. He's tired and struggles to get through the morning to his nap. He can't be hot or cold as have swapped between 1 and 2.5 tog gro bags. He has a bottle of water in his bed for if he's thirsty. In despair.... I know it's a million times better than 6 months ago when he 3/5 times through the night, but I just feel fraustrated that I can't do anything to help. Any ideas anyone? Even gina ford been no help...!

icandy peach blossom double buggy- any good?
snowboarder replied to fmay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My current double buggy obsession is getting out of control - found this!! Sadly not a tandem though. Am off to measure the width of my front door.... -
OH Alie they look MUCH better!! Whilst I do hate the fact that my chair has taken up residence in my living room - I now look round my living room and there are all kids of bright plastic things and teddies etc that I would prefer were not there either. I do find the cheapy ikea armchair I posted a link to just as comfortable though - wish they did that one in better colours. For me the rocking bit was not used at all - but yep sofa really uncomfortable.
-
Vik - yep - there are always a variety of ages - today at the Albrighton centre a 3.5 yr old would have been one of the eldest - but not always. Sessions at Brockwell Lido and other places too - some of which you pay for, some you don't - check the website[/url. I like it more than most of these music classes certainly - much more funky and fun.

On apparently....

What is a good age gap between No 1 and 2?
snowboarder replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Given that baby no. 2 is due early next year (eek) I am hoping a 23 month gap is just perfect in every way.... -
I'll try calling them again later - despite false information given last week. What else can we do?
-
Hmm my recent experience was not quite so 'delightful' - I felt very prodded and poked, and I do think they don't make it very clear whether what they are doing is nec for the NT scan or whether it is part of their research. Nevertheless I do think we have an amazing unit on our doorstep - I did not realise the Nuchal scan is not even offered in some areas, and yet not only do we get it as a matter of course, we also get the results the same day. Oh also - I was called in exactly on time!! Hurrah!

Thames festival? Everyone was invited....!

One O'clock club? There don't tend to be any organised 'classes' in afternoons it seems - prob due to nap timings and school pick ups for those with older siblings.... Soft Play/Swimming at Peckham?
-
I got a fairly cheap Hauck one with stool for about ?150 from Kiddicare - it was fine and used it for ages - but I do hate it and it is still in our living room awaiting next baby!! Couldn't fit in little snowboarders room so got a really cheap ikea arm chair (this one) which I have sat in for many hours (sadly) and it is also fine - nice and low and supports your lower back.

baby monitors - how do you choose
snowboarder replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Bumpy can you turn the alert off completely?? I managed to turn off all sound but it still flashes periodically which annoys me in the night. Not that it's 23 degrees any more..... -
baby monitors - how do you choose
snowboarder replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The BT one seems the best (apart from infuriating habit of 'alerting' you when room is 23 degrees plus - like all summer!). We had the philips avent one originally and it was buzzy and rubbish. I sometimes think I would like to see what on earth he is up to with a video one but I know I would get obsessed with it!! Still can't bring myself to turn the stupid thing off at night even though he is only 2 rooms away! -
Arrrgghhh I'm drowning under clothes....
snowboarder replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Molly - as you may imagine, I am suffering from this too. I don't know what is going to happen when we need to shuffle around bedrooms and lose our spare room - it currently resembles a laundry/second had shop store. Recently tried to pack up some of little snowboarders clothes to find there were some still with tags on. My own wardrobe is a nightmare. Husband starting to get bit narky about it (question last night - what do you actually do when baby has his 2 hr sleep? - answer - lie weakly on the sofa darling - you try spending from 6am - 12.30 with him on your own). Need to hire a wardrobe clearer-outer....or just house clearance I suppose....argh.... -

snowboarder replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Umm - if Mag it's quite nice to eat so I could get there from around 7.30. Plough would most def eat before so more like 8! -
Family room discussion meetup???
snowboarder replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The Plough is revolting for food, but if that doesn't matter it's fine. Or we could just turn up at the Mag... -
Mine did this too at 8.5 months. Didn't want my lovely meat/veg meals. Wasn't fab at finger food (bit better than yours though - mini sarnies could be popped into his mouth) but refused anything offered on a spoon. Ellas kitchen squeezies saved me (the stage one fruity/veg ones) - top off and let him suck at it (squeeze to encourage if nec!). Sainsburys even do squeezy yoghurts. He's had a limited menu (ie pasta) ever since. Annoying babies! Oh yes we went through a phase where if totally distracted by random kitchen implements (salad tongs/measuring spoons etc) you could get something in him. I stopped that when it got ridiculous and he was asking for the blender to play with.

Family room discussion meetup???
snowboarder replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Are we all still on ladies? Have booked husband to be home early (ha by early I mean 7.30!). Now just have to combat end of week tiredness and dig out something reasonable to wear....
