Grow up. He won't you know. I daresay to unclehate the demonstrators who stopped the Blackshirts in Cable Street were just virtue signalling as well.
  2. stantonb, yes it was a slightly undesirable turn of phrase, but the OP had been mugged a short while before at knifepoint - I'm sure anyone who's been bored with my posts on here can tell you I'm tiresomely politically correct but in this instance maybe cut him/her a little slack, under the circumstances?

The collection times are posted on every postbox along with a handy indicator telling one when the next collection is, so that's cobblers. Next!
  4. Sell it to Malaysians, they can repair it and make it into an hotel or apartments, move Parliament to Birmingham. And give no second home allowances so all the MPs have to live in a clean but basic hostel. Then we'd get genuine public servants who have a calling instead of failed lawyers who like the trappings and the expense accounts.
  5. There certainly won't be a discussion if instead of joining in the discussion people just post (twice!) "there's not going to be a discussion"!

If you work > 9-5 you get paid for 7 hours a day (35 > hours/week), not 8. That depends on your contract: I've definitely worked in places where I was paid for eight hours, one of which was a paid hour's break. Anyway, it's legally mandatory to give people working more than 4.5 hours a half hour break so again, it's not a "benefit" for which the staff should be grateful (I know you didn't say that but others did).
  7. Given the number of crappy overpriced flats that could have been built on that footprint I'm quite surprised they got it for under seven figures.
  8. Most of the benefits mentioned are either negligible or legally mandatory - sick pay, holiday pay, paternity pay and pension contributions are not "benefits," they're mandatory. Half an hour off on an eight hour shift doesn't seem much - surely most people working 9-5 get an hour for lunch? The rest of the benefits seem pretty negligible, a free Coke or bucket of popcorn might be nice but oddly most landlords won't accept it in exchange for a rent reduction. I'm sure Picturehouse staff would far rather forgo the benefits listed here (beyond the mandatory ones) in exchange for the LLW.
  9. Graffiti over extant graffiti and graffiti over a piece of artwork which happens to be on a public wall are worlds apart, don't you think? The Last Supper is painted on a wall, were some chump to decide to tag it that wouldn't be a subject for interesting discussion, it would be an outrage...I'm probably a hidebound old reactionary but this sort of crap seems not much different to me than smashing windows for fun. ETA to expand slightly, I assume most people quite like the outside of their dwelling to look nice, would they be happy and think it interesting if someone came and tagged it? In which case what makes a work of public art (which is still someone's wall) any different, except that it is vandalizing something into which much more effort has been put and will be much more difficult to repair?
  10. Tossers. I didn't know that one, hope it can be restored, looks wonderful.
  11. Without taking either side, you are actually entitled to apply for a disabled parking permit while suffering from the effects of cancer or its treatment, I doubt many doctors would refuse to sign off on one in those circumstances. Wishing your wife a successful recovery.

All day visitor permits cost ?2.50 (when bought in blocks of ten), assuming an eight hour day I make it that you pay your nanny approximately ?1.25 an hour?

I do occasionally post things when I've had a good night out so perhaps I've forgotten, but can you show me a single post where I've said anything remotely like that please?

Indeed - I meant that the average person would need three times their salary just to meet the repayments, of course they would never get the mortgage in the first place. Charles Notice - the title was quite clearly asking for a discussion of this issue, had it been "Goodbye to Mr.Patel" maybe less so. This is a discussion board, people discuss things. Discussions develop and expand. Nobody is stopping anyone expressing their regards or regrets (which may or may not be pointless as nobody knows if Mr.Patel views this - why not drop in and tell him how you feel in person?), why do you moan about others discussing things as they see fit?

And you're not paying for other people's mortgages, interest rates are interest rates which are determined by the world and domestic economic environment, they don't steal from you and give it to new mortgagees! Count your blessings, you had to pay a vast proportion of your income in mortgage payments, to buy your house now someone on an averageish income would need about three times their income every month to afford it

That's handy, thanks, I was wondering if there was a way of stopping it. Not only do I object to the environmental waste - my recycling bin is in the porch and that's where it all goes, unread - but it makes me feel sorry for the posties. Having done the odd Christmas shift as a student I know what a pain it is to have a bundle of junk mail which forces one to go up every driveway even when they have no personal mail.
  20. Credit to you Renata, hope your efforts bear fruit.
  21. Early morning/late night deliveries to the M&S and waste collections could be annoying though - believe those near the big M&S have had plenty of aggravation.
  22. Interesting that one one star reviewer wrote: "Last Friday ordered fish cakes which were revolting and the staff beyond incompetent. On Thursday had burger and a steak which was good and the lady at the bar who had started that day was excellent." And the manager replied: "It is great to here [sic] that the bar service you had was excellent. Its always good to know that the efforts of our team are being appreciated. Our staff are expected to ensure your visit is the best possible, and so your praises will be relayed to the whole team. I am also pleased that the food was to your liking, although I am sorry that other aspects of your visit were not." It's not only crocodiles that live in denial...
  23. Handy that they're building eight very large homes though, as if they'd built, say, a dozen smaller ones, or flats, then they would have been obliged to include social housing.

  25. Need it be affected? Other side of the road...perfect for anyone needing to pick up prosecco, prawn vol-au-vents and Pirellis in the one trip!
