  1. Hi I'm sure lots of parents out there will have a very similar experience. I went to the GP in the end as School was doing nothing, but the GP told me SENs diagnosis was the schools responsibility! including ADHD (which is bonkers in my opinion) the GP can put child on WL for Autistic assessment. WLs are ridiculous. You can get a private assessment for dyslexia for £650! I haven't yet done this but i did look into it. The centre is called the Helen Arkell Centre, I only know about them through various recommendations, but there might be other similar organisations. They are based in Farnham but also have London office, can't remember where. Check out the website. They can do the assessment online I think, They are non profit, it's still very expensive though, but you should get answers quickly. The School will need to liaise with them, there's alot of online forms to complete, but i have checked with Charter ED for example and they had confirmed in writing that they do recognise the findings of Helen Arkell Centre etc so you would in theory get funding through Southwark, well the school would, but your child would get extra help at school presumably. Seems like schools are struggling financially (like everyone else) and that's why they're not testing? apparently 1 in 10 of us have dyslexia! BTW there is a test the School can do, the LUCID test, which should flag up any major issues, you can request this test and a copy of the results. The School can not refuse this. This might be helpful. Good luck getting the support your son needs

  8. wanted someone qualified to remove a radiator, tomorrow ideally. Does anyone know how much this costs/ how long it should takes someone experienced? it can be left in the front garden.
  9. I've also got 1 child at st j and 1 starting in sept, would be happy to meet up if something is arranged, pls let me know.
  10. I don't think there will be any dent to the reputation of Little Jungle, it has thrived off word of mouth and everyone I know speaks so highly of it, it is a very nurturing environment for a young child/ baby if parents have to work, you're really unlucky if you don't manage to get a place and incredibly lucky if you do. But like most nurseries in East Dulwich and surrounding areas, spaces are very scare, especially mid week slots (but Mondays and Fridays spaces seem to be more easy to come by). Good luck finding somewhere you're happy with.
  11. we love it. such lovely teachers, great ptfa, lovely kids and parents, so happy we got our 1st choice.
  12. if anyone's child accidentally took them home we would love them back as they were brand new, bought from the airport on the way back from holiday yesterday.
  13. try Lanzarote Retreats maybe, we are going to one of their villa's in July this year, but they also do yurts which look brilliant, some friends went last year and had a great time. In September it could even be too hot though. I haven't been to lanzarote myself but it is supposed to be very beautiful indeed, if you stay away from the very touristy areas, this company only has places in the nice bits http://www.lanzaroteretreats.com/eco/eco-yurt/
  14. hi, Caroline has had a nightmare with her laptop recently. i'll give her a call and let her know you've been experiencing problems. Little Jungle is a brilliant nursery, we live very nearby and my youngest goes. We are so happy we moved her (from somewhere else no names mentioned). I think they are full though. Hope you get somewhere soon.
  15. This year I put those sticky moth traps under our chest of drawers and other places low down (rather than just in the wardrobe and on shelves) and have caught loads under the chest of drawers and nothing in the wardrobes! yet. i thought maybe they're coming from gaps in between our floorboards. I have fewer this year, than last. about 4 years ago they were literally shredding every nice jumper and cardi i owned.
  16. Hi, can anyone suggest any play days during the Easter holidays for my little girl who is nearly 5, I would like to drop her off for either a half or ideally the whole day, specifically Wednesday and Friday but I could work something out if there were interesting things on other days.
  17. my 1st used to do this as well but right from birth, but it wasn't colic, everyone said it was the "witching hour" what ever that means. Basically (from what I can remember) she would just get really over tired from 5 and go a bit bonkers. With our 1st baby our rule of thumb was simply that she should never be awake for more than 1.5 hours because she just got over tired. The 2nd baby was totally different, didn't really seem to need the same amount of sleep. They are all so different. Is there anyway you could squeeze in a quick nap just before 5pm, this might work.
  18. lost possibly at Ivydale children's centre (will give them a call in the morning) or when we went down to Peckham high st later. It would have a hello kitty toy in the pocket.
  19. Can anyone suggest a playgroup for a 2.5 yr old this morning please, there doesn't seem to be much on Tuesday?
  20. yesterday afternoon i was struggling with my buggy and 2 toddlers around Lordship Lane, we had just been in the post office and then went over to the charity shop. My kids were looking at the toys when a couple came in holding my eldest's rain coat so I said "that's ours" and was surprised they had it but they told me they found it on the road and were handing it in to the charity shop, I did think it bizarre but I sort of believed them and was pleased to have the raincoat back so said thanks, shortly after they left I noticed my purse was on the back seat of our phil and teds, this is where I'm kicking myself! but assumed my youngest had got it out of my bag and left it in the pram. But what I think actually happened was that one of them had somehow stolen the purse out of open bag which is clipped onto my buggy somewhere outside the post office (possibly in the post office!) and grabbed the coat at the same time, I guess part of the scam. They must have carefully gone through my purse and took only the visa debit cards (no credit cards or Isa cards etc) and then I think they used the coat routine to find me in the charity shop and chuck the purse back in the back seat of the pram. I only discovered the cards missing this afternoon when I went to the cash machine and put 2 and 2 together. Be careful they are obviously targeting Mums/Dads who are distracted with children. They were a black couple in their 30's I think.
  21. my friend got her child into Dulwich infants school this year through the bulge class, they live along way away from the school, the otherside of North Dulwich station on Casino Avenue, really close to Bessemer Grange. So much of it seems to be down to luck. I guess they can't bulge 2 years in a row though can they
  22. Fiona also does classes on Mondays on Gowlett Rd (in a building just the otherside of the road from the all fired up cafe) if that's nearer. we are very happy with her classes
  23. good for you, we had all this 2 weeks ago, awful. I have sent you a PM
