  1. He does tennis 4 kids, which has classes in the church hall on Barry Rd. The website is www.tennis-4-kids.com My son goes at 3:30-4 which is a class mostly geared for 3 and a half to 4 year olds. There is a class at 2:30 for younger children. However there are also classes on Thursday and Sat for sure, and possibly other days. If you email Gordon the instructor he will let you know his availability. There are no weekly sessions over the summer holiday, but I do know that he is running summer blocks over the course of a week or so, which he may have availability for. We are signing up now for the Sept term so maybe best to get in contact with Gordon and see what is available. I think classes are 7 pounds a class, with a free trial week first. The very young class is with parent involvement. The class my son is in I just sit on the side and watch. Let me know if you have any more questions.
  2. My son is very similar and just turned 3! He does little kickers on Mondays in Beckenham. I think the coach named Denzel there is VERY good compared to other activity leaders. He also does tennis with Gordon of tennis 4 Kids on Barry rd. Monday afternoons. I have just signed him up for Rugger Beez based on this thread on a Sat morning. I am looking for a Friday activity and based on Renata's post put him on the waiting list to do gymnastics as Ladywell. (all courses have a waiting list in case anyone is thinking of calling) Anthing else on a Friday? I was thinking of swimming in Beckenham Spa once September rolls around as we will be away most of the summer. Sounds like a lot I know but he needs structured activities at least once a day or he cant expend enough energy!
  3. I have the City Mini single and I really love it. It is the buggy I use when I am only transporting one child! I used to have a Maclaren for this purpose and the City Mini is so much better in my experience. I have a Phil and Teds Vibe, which I really dislike for many reasons. The ONLY reason I got it was that my older child was just too big to be in the side by side. He was crushed in it - at the time of testing he was 2 years 3 months but was already 36 pounds. I REally wanted the Citi Mini double and will tell you that pushing two heavier children in the Vibe is not fun. My neighbors have the Citi Mini double for their 2 year old twin boys, who are much smaller than my son. They fit fine in it. I would just say to test that your older child fits well in it. If so, I would def get it. The fold mechanism is so easy, as is the recline. The basket is good too.
  4. It is Morrisons. I had a letter through the door. They often use the same house on Wood Vale for various adverts.
  5. My son has chronic diahrrea but no other symptoms like hives or anything. The GP never mentioned the protein allergy. It was initially the dietician that mentioned it as her daughter suffered from constipation for years and had no other "typical" symptoms. It turns out she has what is called a "delayed reaction" which can manifest itself in constipation or diahrrea. I ended up having to go private for testing as my sons NHS appt was 10 months in the making - it is this July. The GP had initially referred me to the community pediatrician last August. And I have been battling to get things sorted ever since.
  6. I thought my son was lactose intolerant. It turns out he has a milk protein allergy which is entirely different. We saw a massive improvement once cutting all milk products and soya products. We saw a dietician as my son loves cheese, yogurt and other dairy food. It has been hard but worth it. To make up for the calcium one thing he has is the tropicana calcium fortified juice everyday. He is just turning three as well so I know how hard it is to cut foods out. Are you sure it is the lactose? The reason I ask is that I was told by the pediatrician and dietician that lactose intolerance is rare in young children but the milk protein allergy is much more common.
  7. Funny enough I saw a dietician yesterday for this issue - no dairy for my son due to a milk protein allergy. No soya either. I booked to see privately as I had concerns about his nutrients etc and the NHS just said "cut dairy". The dietician's main concern was calcium and the calcium fortified orange juice is a great source of this. She also recommended avocados and hummous, both of which my son dislikes due to the texture. HE eats most other foods, including mackerel etc. I am awaiting her full report via email and an post other things. I found the appointment very helpful though and would recommend seeing a dietician to get specifics for the child. Perhaps a referral can be made on the NHS if your daughter presses the issue.
  8. John Lewis will do a pre 1030 am delivery but they do charge for it. I have done it in an emergency and they came before 9 both times.
  9. Huggies do a preemie nappy. You can get on amazon.
  10. I agree with above. My brother and his wife had their baby girl at 24 weeks in November. Baby was due the end of March, and almost 6 months on is still in hospital. She was 1 pound 5 oz as birth and is now 7 pounds 3 oz. It is a very long and emotional process and things swing from high to low from one day to the next. Emotionally is can be very draining on the couple. My brother and his wife were both working - she took 6 weeks off to recover but their days are spend going to hospital before work, going to work and going to the hospital after work. Making meals is a great suggestion, and maybe arranging for a cleaner as a one off treat in a few weeks might be nice if they dont have one. Baby did not wear any clothes for at least the first three months - maybe four. And by the time baby is out of the hospital you wont know the size or season, so I would leave that for later as maybe a celebration gift when baby can come home. Babies of that size often need some surgical interventions - in my niece's case she has had 5 procedures. I think asking question was good for them - they like to talk about the baby. However they also didnt tell many people all of the things that were going wrong at various stages as it was too painful. Just acknowledging how hard things can be and offering to listen is the greatest gift. It was hard for my brother to plan for the future and there is some sense of loss - the newborn stage that you envision with cuddles etc is not the reality. When the baby is allowed visitors it would be nice for you to go, even to sit with your friend in the family area and provide a break from the worry etc. It is a long process as I said earlier. But hopefully the outcome will be a positive one. You sound like a great friend for trying to be such a good support system.
  11. My son goes to Buds. The staff are really great with the kids. My son names them all at home as his "friends". It took him a long time to settle as he was very clingy to me and now he really enjoys it. He started 2 months after his second birthday two mornings a week. I agree the toys are old and could they maybe use to be updated. However my son hasnt even noticed. He likes the outside space and it is a tranquil atmosphere. I would recommend it. I will be adding another day when he is three.
  12. I pay 10 per hour for a similar arrangement once a week for half a day. She also does gardening for me at the same price.
  13. Hi, I have been following this thread with interest. My 6 month old used to sleep with me and fall asleep on the breast. Then about three weeks ago she was pulling of the breast but crying trying to sleep. I took this as a cue to try to get her to sleep on her own. I have moved her to her cot for naps and nighttime sleep. I now feed her and then put her into her cot awake. She does cry but for less than 5 minutes. I stand there rubbing her back and saying some key words again and again. I also have the sleep sheep on with the ocean sounds. I seem to be able to get her down for naps and for her first evening sleep within 10 minutes, which is great. The probelm is she is still waking OFTEN. If she is asleep at 730 pm she will wake at 10. I resettle her with the same back rub, key words. Then she wakes at 11. I take her out and feed her and put her back in awake same routine as before. She is very hungry at this time. She will then go to about 1 am. I do the same routine. Then at 2 she will wake and seems hungry. By this point I bring her into my bed every night out of exhaustion. She then wakes every hour or so until 7am. Any ideas on how to get her to sleep longer??? I am ok feeding her around 11 and again around 2 or 3. But its all the other hourly wakeups that are making it hard. I dont want to let her cry it out at this point. Any other advice? Edited to add that she is sleeping on her stomach as she was rolling onto it anyway and seemed to like it better. Also to say that when sleeping with me the full night she was waking up just as often.
  14. I have to admit that my husband and I have been in different rooms for 3 years due to a combo of two small children and his snoring. We are almost at the point of "moving back in" together and I cant face it because of the snoring. When I wake him he gets mad, so I dont know what to do about it either really. Just thought I would commiserate with you.
  15. As a teacher I encourage children to work collaboratively and this is supported by pedagogical research. However when doing so I have always have children seated sideways so that they face the side of the room and only have to turn their heads to the side to see the front. So no one ever faces the back of the room. Also good teaching methods mean that a lot of teaching should not be happening at the front of the room anyway, so students should not be sitting there listening to the teacher for 30 minutes.
  16. You can now buy kindle in a store called Target. They have them in the shop. www.target.com will tell you the one nearest to where you are traveling. And the models they have.
  17. I was prescribed chloramphenicol by seldoc after gp was closed. Got it over the phone and faxed to chemist for 3 month old.
  18. Yes, my son at 2 and a half was prescribed chloramphenical this past week, but subsaquently passed the infection on to my 3 month old daughter at the same time and the gp prescribed her the same drops as well.
  19. I was breastfeeding my 20 month old son many times a day (and night) and got pregnant. It was the second month after i got my period back. I had tried an ovulation predictor kit just to see if i was ovulating at all. The first month it said i didnt- the second month it said I did ovulate and I got pregnant that month. I would say if you have had your period a number of months than there is a good chance you could get pregnant as well.Just my personal experience.
  20. I just wanted to say that I have this! And I love it. Baby sits in it at every meal we eat. My 2 year old has a tripp trapp and we were planning on getting baby one as well. So after 4 days of eating and holding new baby, I ordered one. My husband has agreed (after initially thinking it was a BIG wast of money) that it has been a good splurge. She is 6 weeks now and I feel like at least it is something I use a few times a day, every day.
