  1. I am 610 meters away. Was 26th on the waiting list on the first day and have only moved to 24th. Other families that live around me have children at the school. The "catchment" has definitely gotten much smaller. This year I believe there were 32 siblings admitted.
  2. I dismantled one and packed it in my luggage without a problem. I did not try to take it on board.
  3. I have taken them on multiple long haul flights with no problems.
  4. Hi. Thank you for this information. I applied this year and put down all of my closest schools for my son. I did not get first choice school, which is heavily oversubscribed, and I am trying to work out if I have a reasonable chance of getting in. My first choice school is actually the closest non faith school to walk to, but not the closest via the straight line method. My closest using the straight line method is about 350 m away, but about a mile to walk to due to the street layout of the area. The family directly over the road to me go to the first choice school, but the children are older and I think the distance has significantly reduced since then. I guess I will have to wait and see!
  5. I know in the primary schools guide published it provides the longest distance offered last year for a each school. Am I right in thinking this distance was for the initial allocation only? How can I find out what the final distance offered was after all of the movement on the waiting list? I know this will vary from year to year, but I am just trying to figure out if I have a reasonable chance of getting into a particular school. Thanks.
  6. I just wanted to add some information. I am a Southwark resident but my closest schools are in Lewisham. I received an offer of a school in Lewisham, although not my first choice.. If you are a Southwark resident, Southwark will only automatically place you on a waiting list for other Southwark schools. If you want to be on the waiting list for a Lewisham school, you need to contact them in writing directly. When speaking to Southwark this morning, they told me they could give me waiting list info on other Southwark schools on Monday.
  7. Hi, I don't have any experience with the leaving school issue. However, I do teach in an International school and find that the students really have some amazing experiences that they would not otherwise have had, interacting with students of other cultures and nationalities. I know there is a lot more to it than that, but just wanted to say what a wonderful experience it might be for you as a family.
  8. I have sent announcements for both of my children, and typically receive many, but I am American. I use tiny prints for everything and the choice and quality is very good.
  9. I am so sorry to hear about your son. I also have a citi mini. I am not sure if you know that the manufacturer does not recommend using the citi mini to run or jog. They market it as an urban stroller. on the website it gives more info. I think the brand name makes it misleading.
  10. I just wanted to add to this thread in case anyone was looking for a trainer in the new year. Giulio is an amazing trainer and I would definitely recommend him! I have two small children and have very little time to spare. I love going to our sessions - they are really varied and Giulio makes the hour of hard work fly by. I had not done any exercise in 4 years and I saw a difference right away. It s the best money I have spent on myself and I have not looked back. Expect to work hard and you will achieve your goals.
  11. When my son used the trip trapp he could never get out and we only had the baby set. My daughter is now almost 13 months and she can stand up in the seat if I turn my back for one second. I have just ordered the harness. When I had my son I could never see why the harness was necessary. I think his legs were too big to allow him enough space to get up.
  12. I don't have any advice, just wanted to say that we have seen the dietician at kings for a different reason, and she said that rice milk is not recommended for child under 5. My son who is three drinks oatly. He also drinks the chocolate oatly occasionally, which he loves. As said above, you need to watch the calcium intake. My son also has a glass of the tropicana enriched with calcium every day.
  13. I am also trying to weigh up the benefits of having my almost one year old daughter in the same school. At dcps she can do that for nursery but then I would need to move her and rely on the 4+ assessments. I am pretty confident she would have a place at ducks. I really loved ducks on the visit I made but that was three years ago so perhaps I should look around again to make a more direct comparison. Thanks for the pm's I have received so far as well. I appreciate any feedback good or bad that people have to offer.
  14. I have my son down to possibly start reception in both schools for 2012. I am trying to decide what will be the right environment for my son. He is very energetic, sporty, and always on the go. I was recently made aware that some students started dulwich prep reception after going to the nursery in ducks, and I just wondered why parents made the choice to leave one school for the other. He hasn't been offered a place in either school yet, but on the off chance we get offers from both I am interested in hearing from parents that made a similar decision. thanks.
  15. I have used the Amsafe cares harness four times. On one flight a BA flight attendant refused to allow me to use it as she had never seen one before. I had a huge argument with her and got the main person in charge to come over. In the end they allowed me to hold my son in my lap for take off and landing and then place him in the harness afterward, despite the fact that he was old enough to be in his own seat. It was really bizarre. For future flights I brought a printed out version of what is on the website in regard to the harness to avoid any issues.
  16. It was a chameleon. I wanted to somehow wrap it up, but unless you are planning on checking it with your bags at the front there is no time. I wanted to use it throughout the airport as my son was 20 pounds by 4 months and it was just too much to carry him around with my bag as well. If you bring it to the gate everyone is trying to get past you and I ended up just handing it over. Although the chameleon is big, it actually depends on the type of airplane. Some of them have large closets and some dont. All were longhaul flights but it really depends. On my last flight I tried to get a phil and teds on as I had a 3 year old and 7 month old as well as travel bag and trunki and the BA staff wouldnt allow it. In the end I had to carry everything as well as the second seat and one of the staff said it wasnt their fault I was traveling alone with two children.
  17. I have flown long haul with a bugaboo about 6 times on BA. Three times they let me keep it on the plane and three they took it to the hold. On two of the three times it was in the hold there was damage to the bugaboo. Once the brake piece broke off and once the right chassis broke. Both times bugaboo replaced the entire chassis as it was under warantee. BA did nothing. They said they were not responsible I subsequently bought a travel bag and also a cheap maclaren once the warantee expired. I may have just been unlucky but just thought I would share my experience.
  18. Look up Jen who goes by the name "sunflowerbath" on the forum. She made an amazing cake for my son's birthday. She is local.
  19. Chantelle, sorry you think my post is ludicrous. Ruth has two children in the buggy as do I and I am basing this on my current experience. I am spending a lot of time in lower manhattan as well where many of the streets are cobbled. I was just giving an opinion. I would not use an umbrella stroller if I was trying to have both children in it all day, especially if one is a baby. Ruth, hop you have a great time. The Bronx zoo is a great idea for that time of year.
  20. I am from NY. If you are doing a lot of walking,a cheap umbrella stroller is very bumpy and may eevn break on the sidewalks (pavement) here. Iam actually here visiting now and bracing for a hurricane! I hate my p and ted, but I brought it and I am happy I did as far as comfort for kids. I have a just turned three year old and a 9 month old. Just something to consider.
  21. we have the sony one that flips open. Much better than previous bigger panasonic. The sony one has a lock and they can put it on a traytable or in their lap. Check amazon for the best price.
  22. I am doing a similar flight tomorrow by myself with a three year old and 8 month old. I actually do not like boarding first. I find that you are on the plane at least an extra hour than you need to be. The flight to NJ will be almost 8 hours (going, less on the return) to start with so the extra hour does seem to make a difference to me. My older son always wanted to run around as other passengers were boarding and didnt like being strapped down for such a long time just waiting to get going. I preferred boarding almost last and getting into the seats and taking off. Then your son can move around once you are in the air. This may be just me but I have found it helps. Others may find the opposite is true and want to be settled for awhile. I would pack some new and exciting small toys, lots of snacks, and extra clothes. If there are going to be 4 adults to one child then honestly I dont think you have much to worry about. Each can take turns doing things with your son. Hope you enjoy your holiday.
  23. My son just turned 3 and daughter is almost 8 months. My son is still the worst sleeper both day and night and I was determined to do things differently this time. But every day is such a stress to work my daughters naps around sons schedule. She has been on two naps for awhile, but they always conflict with his nursery pickup/little kickers/other activities. I am finding the daytime sleep so stressful. During the half term week we did everything around my daughter and her sleep improved dramatically. So I feel I am doing her s disservice by disrupting her naps everyday for my son. But if I dont get him to his activities he is so bored! He is def a "spirited" child who still wakes AT LEAST 3 times per night and needs someone to be in the room to go to sleep. I dont have any advice, but have been feeling stressed about my daughters sleep for some time. I think she had the capacity to be a good sleeper and I am ruining it.
  24. I think the Just Williams ones are by Melissa and Doug? If so I have one. I am sorry I cant lend it to you as we have a fancy dress party coming up, but the quality is great.
  25. My son was referred to Evelina and the wait was almost 6 months for an appt. This was for a gastro paed but just something to be cautious of. I ended up going private to Harley St Paediatrics. Bupa covered it all on the basis that I had been referred for NHS treatment. I just used the copy of the Evelina letter I had.
