  1. Thanks prdarling. I have been for a visit and really liked it - but just wanted to hear firsthand of any "hidden" negatives - if there even were any!. I am not too concerned with the admin part and the opening times and packed lunch arent too much of an issue either as I only wanted to send my son until 1 anyway as he is just 2, and he probably is used to the food I have been making him everyday anyway. I did think some toys looked worn but assumed that this is the case with most nurseries and my son wouldnt be phased either way. The staff I met were so friendly and the kids looked like they were having a lot of fun. I am really just looking for a place where my son will enjoy himself and make some friends in a caring environment. I am happy with my choice of Buds and your post has just reaffirmed that for me. Thanks again.
  2. I was going to make a similar post about Buds - my son is down to start in Sept. I havent looked at that many nurseries but found some good posts on here. Any other opinions?
  3. Thanks for the feedback so far. I guess I was also wondering whether I should go for wood or metal. The likeabike makes a metal bike now although on their website it is sold out. I like the look of the wood but wasn't sure how it would hold up etc.
  4. I would like to get my almost 2 year old son his first bike for his birthday. I am deciding between the Islabike and the Likeabike. Anyone have feedback on these? Thanks.
  5. I would really like to meet other mums in the area who will have babies around the time my second is born - was living in Greenwich with the first and my NCT friends have mostly moved out of London now. My son is turning 2 in a month - am I crazy to have a second so soon??? He only slept through the night for the first time a week ago, and this is not consistent. When it is is is from 8:30-5. Anyway, I am home now with him so am pretty flexible. Am going away for a month this summer to visit family but from mid July on I am back.I feel better that many of you are showing because I feel HUGE!
  6. In my first pregnancy that happened to me. They moved my date by a week even thought I was certain of the date myself. In the end I was induced at 2 weeks "late" although I told them and was convinced it was just one week. I wish I would have waited that extra week! I am away on holiday for one month to visit my family so having second scan on June 18th. Still debating if I should find out the sex as I did the first time but think I want to wait this time.
  7. I am due Nov 9th. You? How old is your first child?
  8. I traveled quite often to NY in my son's first year. It took about 5-6 days to get the 5 hour difference covered. I think they say it takes about one day per hour difference. As we were going back in time the first night he would go to bed around 5 pm after me keeping him up after the flight there but would wake at 2am. I would try to add another nap in the day and each day try to keep him up a little later. The first few days he was very tired as continued to wake early - 3am, 330 am etc. Until eventually I got him to wake between 630 and 7am.
  9. This is exactly how I feel! I am 17 weeks and feel like I look MUCH bigger than last time, especially at night. And the weight seems distribute differently so I feel like I look fat instead of pregnant. Last night I thought I felt the baby but was unsure as well. I have asked others and they say they showed much differently the second time around. Maybe if I had done some sort of stomach exercises after baby 1 my stomach wouldnt look so big now? But I didnt. Oh well!
  10. I am interested in any replies as I will be in the US between 20 and 24 weeks and didnt think I needed to get a different policy then my current one.
  11. I like this advert too. As a matter of fact I was in John Lewis in Bluewater this week and they were playing it on the televisions for sale! It is very similar to an advert that aired in America three years ago for Mother's Day - basically the same premise so not sure if it is the same agency or someone really liked the idea!
  12. Hi. I recently traveled with my 21 month old to NY and purchased him his own seat. I was told on the phone by BA that I needed to use my own car seat or buy the AMSAFE A Cares harness. I bought the harness and on the way to NY it was great. However on the way back the BA flight attendants told me they had never seen or heard of this harness. They were extremely aggressive and told me they would not allow me to use it. This is after I was told on the phone by BA to buy it, and also used it with no problem on my outbound flight. I pointed out that it was FAA approved and also recommended on the BA website. They told me they don't need to follow FAA regulations as they are a British airline. In the end they compromised and allowed me to use it during the flight but not on takeoff or landing. They also filed " a report" about it. On takeoff and landing I needed to have my son on my lap. I have written to BA as I am flying again in June when he will just turn 2. I am only telling you this as perhaps you should bring a print out off the BA website with you that proves that the harness is a recommended device. Otherwise you may face some opposition. Or you might not like my first flight. I would say that the harness was good however it doesn't sit flush with the BA seats due to the sides of the seat extending out at an angle. So part of the harness sort of pushed into my sons neck but he didn't seem too bothered. Also as an aside there were no car seats even on my return flight so that wasn't even an option.
  13. My son (21 months) did the same with the Tobi and after some research on the internet I found many similar complaints. I even went back to John Lewis to see if I could exchange the seat based on my experience and was told I just need to tell my son not to do it and he will stop. Not much help. In the end the strap on my Tobi broke (stopped pulling out so couldn't adjust) and I got a Priori in exchange. Although he has been able to do it very occasionally with this seat I have found it was only when the straps were not tight enough. Where as I would tighten the straps again and again on the Tobi and he could still get out. I know this isn't much help but I thought I would let you know you are not alone in this. In the US Britax seats come with a second clip across the chest called a "HUGS" strap which unfortunately they do not come with here. Those straps have made it totally impossible for my son to get out. I have not seen them for sale separately though.
  14. I took my maxicosi cabriofix over with me to the US and used the regular seat belt to strap it in. You can buy that seat there as well so no issues with it at all.
  15. My father works in the medical field and has seen a number of healthy pregnant women in their 20's contract swine flu and get very very ill. One had to have the baby delivered at 27 weeks. THese women are probably in the minority but it is worth considering.
  16. I have been thinking of going to this. Would it be suitable for a 14 month old or is it geared toward slightly older children?
  17. I have the inglisina zuma. Do not get it!!! It looks great and it is comfortable however it is impossible to clean. There are crevices everywhere. Also the cushion velcros directly to the seat and food gets into the velcro that is on the seat. So you cant get it 100 percent clean. I put it away and got a tripp trapp. I only use it now if I have a guest.
  18. [email protected] I emailed them recently. They wrote back and said they are opening Sept 7th and to contact them at that time.
  19. I would add that I have one and have enjoyed using it alot. It does make things a lot easier and the cleanup is great.
  20. All Bugaboos are covered by Bugaboo for two years from purchase. My chassis broke and I contacted them directly. Once I sent them proof of purchase, or in my case a bank statement showing the store I bought it from and purchase price, I was sent a new chassis immediately and it arrived in a few days. After I transferred the wheels on etc they came back and collected the damaged Chassis. It was all free of charge. Mothercare may have their own warantee etc but I found dealing with Bugaboo very straightforward.
  21. I go to little dippers in Guy's hospital at London Bridge. Perfect for your child's age. It is always hard to get into but I believe they are releasing the next round of classes within the week. Keep checking their website. www.littledippers.co.uk
  22. I dont have a child with a nut allergy but am a teacher. I had a student with a severe nut allergy. In addition to the epipen training etc, I had her mum bring in lots of treats that would last throughout the year for birthdays/celebrations. I was too afraid as her teacher to give her anything that another student brought in, despite the fact that other parents were aware of her allergy. This way when it was time for the parties this student never felt left out and I didnt have to worry about her eating something that had even a trace of nuts etc. It is hard because there are lots of foods that dont necessarily have nuts in them but are made where nuts are handled. And lots of people dont realize this when providing food for other kids.
  23. I did exactly what you are proposing. Had to get EDF in to move the electric meter and fuse board. In the end the meter had to stay under the stairs but much higher up on the wall (Essentially 2 and a half feet from where it was!!). Then I had my bathroom fitter box it in. And it did cost a fortune. However in the end I disputed some of the costs with EDF. As they told me that it was a two man, two full day job, and on the second day they were at my house for an hour. Therefore I demanded a partial refund which I got. If I recall I had to pay upfront for the works. EDF provided me with the new fuse board and if I recall it didnt cost any more than I was quoted by an electrician at the time. Perhaps they can quote that for you. Also I had to go down the macerator route as there was not any other way to get a steep enough gradient. The hot/cold water pipes come from the floor above and were run in through the ceiling. In the end it was a success but an expensive one at that.
