  1. Re growth scans I don't think they're very accurate in terms of predicting size of baby. I had a late growth scan, was told the baby was 6lbs and two week later my 9lbs 10oz baby was born. I measured normal with the tape measure. They will check for other things during growth scan - see how te placenta and cord are functioning as well as the amount of fluid round the baby, it takes about ten mins so if you're offered one it might be worth going for peace of mind.

  5. Thanks for the responses, I never made it in the end as bub came the following day! May have to treat myself to a post-pregnancy massage now instead ;)
  6. If your little one is truly projectile vomiting I'd definitely get it checked out. If not, follow your instincts and look out for signs of dehydration (sunken eyes, no wet nappies in 6 hours). Still, no harm in getting it checked in my opinion if you're worried.
  7. You might like Tin Pan Annie - although I can't remember what days and times it's on.
  8. I really want one where they have a hole in the bed for the bump so that I can lie flat - any recommendations? Thanks
  9. It's early days still and sounds pretty normal to me but you could try wake-to-sleep technique if you haven't already(google it).
  10. Did you wash her hair before putting her to bed? Pollen could have been stuck in her hair and got onto her pillow and aggravated it that way. My husband gets bad hayfever and suffers at night if he hasn't showered off before going to bed.
  11. Hello autumn mums - here's a summer mum gatecrashing the thread. I'm trying to get enough people together for a seminar by Nic from childsleepsolutions (see more info here: Child Sleep Solutions), she has had some great feedback on this forum. I've got a 2-year old who thankfully now is a really good sleeper but the thought of going back to 14 months of no sleep with number 2 fills me with dread. I could do with a refresher and some strategies for the first few months, so I thought I'd try to get a group together. The seminar is ?20 pp and once I've got enough people signed up I will organise a mutually convenient time. Please pm me if you're interested.
  12. Vi ar lediga den 3e juli men jag har tid hos barnmorskan mellan 10-12 sa kan bara traffas pa em.
  13. Hejsan! I have a bugabo bee plus and a maclaren quest - you're welcome to try both in exchange for a fika ;-) I have to say, the bee is by far my favourite out of the two, you can easily push it with one hand whereas the maclaren is a bit of a struggle, especially now I'm 8 months pregnant with a heavy 2-year-old. Also the maclaren doesn't have much of a shopping basket underneath and doesn't recline that far, I think the XT reclines further but it's quite a lot bigger - don't know if you're looking for a small pram or not. Both are great for travelling, flying etc and fit in to the boot of my very small car.
  14. We pay ?50/day from 8.30-6 although our 2yo does more like 9/9.30-4.30/5 This includes snacks, lunch and tea. We also pay 4 weeks holiday but not sick pay - I think this varies between childminders so worth taking it into account. Also check how many kids she is allowed to have at the same time, as with such a little one you want to make sure they get lots of attention (ours has between 2-4 kids daily but she also has a full time assistant). She charges for a full day to do an afternoon pick-up as it means she can't take on other children for the full day if she commits to the pick-up. I think that's quite steep but have since spoken to other cm's who have the same arrangement.
  15. Yes, the kiddy system is safer especially in side-on impacts which most are, and also prevents whiplash injuries as the shoulders are not restricted. I seem to remember also reading somewhere that a high percentage of car seats are incorrectly installed which affects safety but the kiddy doesn't have that issue. We've got the one that goes up to age 12 (can't remember if it's the infinity or guardian) and we're very happy with it. I did loads of research into car seats when buying last year, and basically these were by far the safest forward-facing car seats available on the market. Have a look on YouTube, I think some of the which? Videos are on there.
  16. Would anyone here be interested in a child sleep seminar by childsleepsolutions on this forum?I've got a 2-year old who thankfully now is a really good sleeper but the thought of going back to 14 months of broken sleep with number 2 fills me with dread. I could do with a refresher and some strategies for the first few months, so I thought I'd try to get a group together. Unfortunately my place isn't big enough to host otherwise I would have been more than happy to. Please pm me if you're interested.
  17. You could also try Dr Barry Peatfield - bit controversial (google his name), but I have been to his seminars and he is extremely knowledgable when it comes to the thyroid. He has a clinic in Surrey: The Peatfield Clinic of Nutrition 16 Southview Warlingham Surrey CR6 9JE Tel/Fax: 01883 623125 The office hours will be 12 noon to 4 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
  18. Try www.thyroiduk.org - they should be able to supply you with a list of recommended practitioners. Also Marilyn Glenville is very good with female hormonal health.
  19. We went last week with our 2-year old using the 2-4-1 offer with national rail. The highlight for her was getting on the train there, having an ice cream, seeing the rabbits, owls and monkeys, and the fountain paddling pool thing which we didn't know existed so we ended up stripping her down to her nappy and drying her off with a muslin. In hindsight, it was quite hard work getting there and back, it's too big really to get round it all with such a little one, lots of other screaming kids around, skipping her nap...We would have had just as much fun at battersea zoo tbh at this age. The meerkats there are fab and lots of animals that you can get really close to.
  20. I also had an abnormal nuchal translucency reading at 12 weeks, but low risk for downs thankfully. We were booked in for a scan with a cardiac specialist at 20 weeks and it was an agonising time having to wait so long for answers. The scan was fine although baby not yet born so clearly stilla bit of a worry. Kings really is the best place to be though, all the research I found when I looked into NT came from the Harris Birthright centre. It does also mean that they check for a lot more markers as a matter of course than they do elsewhere, and therefore more likely to pick up 'abnormalities'. When speaking to other mums about it, it turned out quite a few of them had been told their NT and markers were off the scale (around 6 in one case) and they all have very healthy children now. I do also know of one mum who was told everything looked fine and ended up having a baby with Downs syndrome. I sometimes wonder who's benefit these scans really are for - it can cause so much unnecessary stress.
  21. You could put some ice in a bucket in front of the fan, that should help cool the room down and keep curtains shut during the day. Perhaps put a sippy cup within reach too in case she wakes up thirsty in the night? I'm sure she'll be fine as long as she gets plenty to drink during the day.
  22. Vagar man tro pa vaderleksrapporten - 24 grader och sol lagom till traffen imorgon?!
  23. I think the risk of affecting the baby is to do with how close to the actual birth it's administered. They won't give you pethidine if they think you're less than a certain number of hours away from giving birth. I had it administered at home by my midwife and can't say it made any difference whatsoever. Baby born some 21 hours later latched on straight away, and had an apgar score of 10. I found the birthing pool and gas and air much more helpful than pethidine.
