  1. Hi. You said you won't expect night time help after dp return to work. I know this is the arrangement many families have, but my dp and I find that unreasonable for us. Having 1 partner 24 hrs on call and responsible for the safety/life of our child, whilst the other enjoys uninterrupted sleep in order to work office hours seems unsafe aswell as unfair. We shared the night duties in the year it took to get her sleeping through and still share the getting up duties now. Your being alert and rested ready for your job is just as important as his.
  2. Our daughter, 2 and three quarters has started in the last 2 weeks to frequently make spitty bubbles down her chin. We have been treating it as naughtiness, but maybe there's more to it and she has some kind of pain in her mouth??
  3. This will be a dilemma for us when the time comes in a couple of years too. I need to find out more about any conflict between haloweem and our Christian beliefs. I've seen church youth groups doing an alternative All Saints Day party, which seems like a good idea. Like someone said, it will be interesting to resurect this thread in a few years and see where our principles have ended up.
  4. I went to the labour ward tour a couple weeks ago and the leader said that the staying over thing had just been a pilot/trial. She seemed to say that you could now ask permission individually but it was a bit vague.
  5. We stopped offering our daughter a nap a couple of months ago, 2.5 yrs, as she started taking longer to get to sleep at bedtime and waking up earlier plus could be heard awake during 2 out of 3 of her naps. It worked well and she's back to a full night's sleep. It has taken me 6 weeks or so to find a way of getting house work done, but am now getting the hang of her joining in 'helping' which she really enjoys. On the rest side, I have found that she seems slightly mote relaxed about spending some time during the day doing not much (i thought maybe she is pleased not to be put in her cot when she's wide awake).
  6. Or choose significantly cheaper nurseries than we have available (or would want to use...) round here... If you can bring yourself to consider a different area (depending on accessibility/route to work) you may find a cheaper option. You can visit and make sure you're happy with the place. ED childcare is only so expensive because there is no affordable competition available close by, not because it's better than anywhere else.
  7. I am 33 weeks and just started having heartburn and feeling 'bluhh' literally last night. So far have nothing in the house so have just tried a home remedy of bicarb and water - I wouldn't reccomend it, it tastes revolting and didn't work. What you said about looking after a toddler Crystal, hence I am on couch posting this with cbeebies on instead of doing some kind of edifying child centred activity!
  8. Hello Amy. Our daughter changed from 2.5 days per week down to one due to me losing my job when she was 2 plus 3 months. For the first couple of months she would often be upset and clingy whilst there, but when she got a bit more grown up at 2.5 she 'decided' that she wasn't going to cry at nursery any more and she has been confident and happy there ever since.
  9. I heard it was on tomorrow and is split into two sessions. 10am start for first and 11.15am for start of second [i think!]. Thankyou, I went today for the second session and these are the right times. It was really friendly for me and my little girl enjoyed it too. It's in all saints church peckham in the road down the side of the train station.
  10. Yes, same organisation their payed for classes.
  11. Does anyone know if this is on tomorrow and is it one long session from 10-12 or split into two? Thanks.
  12. Hello. Very sadly, after 6 years of free classes apparently, Southwark is no longer funding any Whippersnappers music classes from this term. I feel really sad I won't be able to give my new baby the opportunities I gave my now 2.5 yr old. I am just awaiting the publication of this term's Let's go guide to see what free classes are left. I think Whippersnappers is a charity which tries to be able to provide concessionary prices, you could look at their website to see www.whippersnappers.org/
  13. My 2.5 yr old girl and her friends are going through a hard stage at the moment. Whenever she meets with a friend (usually one at a time 1/2 times a week) they very quickly get cross with eachother. It's so sad to see as she gets lonely on days when we don't meet anyone and is so excited to see her friends and thinks about them a lot between meetings (including them in songs, conversations and games). Any ideas or just empathy welcome. It also makes me feel a bit down, as the meeting with the other mum is also stressful and often cut short.
  14. Thanks everyone for the advice and info. I'll definately be going for a water birth tour and look into pool in a box costs.
  15. Hello, does anyone know how many rooms/pools there are at Kings. Just had a look at their description of facilities on their website, but am hoping it's out of date as only mentions 1 permanent and 1 inflatable pool. Thanks for your help.
  16. The chicco is annoying to keep clean and not stylish, but the baby can be securely strapped in and I felt it was big and sturdy enough to safely hold a 2 year old whilst I went in and out to the kitchen. With the table on I definately felt like she couldn't escape.
  17. What age group would it be for. Could a class for 2.5 years plus be provided?
  18. Hello Gavin, thank you very much for your help. Please could I ask you to note/put forward to your colleagues these 2 things? The tap or fence must be moved in order to provide 'Playbuilder' provision, as 8-13 year olds are not allowed in to the one o clock club to use it. A very large area of fencing was recently removed from the triangle of grass to the south west of the new playground, could this be retrieved and reused. Thank you.
  19. My other half instinctively used them for leapfrog and Just made the last one. He's 6 foot + so not quite sure which children could manage it!
  20. Personally I think that all the films and books after no 4 are pretty dark. We both love the series and have been conjecturing on when our v little one will be ready for them. I think the original generation reading the books as they were published had an advantage, a 7 year old reading the first book would be ready as each year went past for a new book.
  21. I had my ears pierced at the doctors in my home town (80 miles away sorry) so service definately exists at. least. They used a tiny one use stapler type thing, so very hygenic.
  22. Teddy bears picnic sounds lovely. Do you know any more details please? Time, where, need to bring food etc.
  23. Hello, I've seen a sign on the gate saying open from 10.30 during the hols. Does anyone know if its everyday or if Weds am is still just childminders? Thanks.
  24. Sounds lovely. A morning session would be good for us. Two hours would be better than one, as a mum of toddler with endless energy, never quenched by a single play session!
  25. The Coppleston playgroup on Tues am 10-12. They said that they should carry on running through the summer as long as they have enough volunteers to help run it (see another thread on here a week or so ago where they asked for helpers.
