  1. bb, how about a battery swing? a godsend for a crying baby when you don't have enough hands
  2. I think despite being quite a laissez faire person, and cosleeping, breastfeeding etc, our days are quite defined really what with school, creche etc. While the first 3/4m with a new baby I think it just tags along, feeding whenever it's awake, but then I think a certain amount of pattern to the day, if you have other children (I have a big one as well as twins) is useful for everyone's sanity... for eg my twins used to either sleep when they arrived at the minders, or if they were with me they would sleep in the car and the buggy on our way out somewhere, so i could book classes etc or go places knowing they would be awake and in a good mood by 10.30. When you have twins, getting them to nap at the same time is the hole grail, obviously. They then used to nap after lunch, unfortunately they really would have liked to sleep 2-4 but that didn't suit either me or the minder doing the schoolrun! But we managed... they were still often doing 2, but sometimes one nap, at 16m when they started to go to creche 10-12 4 days p/w and that has fixed them in a very solid routine, napping 12-2... though they will still nap at 10am and 3pm if we go out for the day in the car. I think, in short, trying to keep to a comfortable pattern each day with the older one, the little one will fall in, and even though sleep needs change as they grow, the times of naps will suit you and you can be flexible as eneded, whatever suits you.
  3. Never really planned any routine, I rather bristle at the whole books, do it this way, do not make eye contact approach. But for the twins we had DS1 going to school etc so our day is quite mapped out anyway. First few months they ate and slept by turns, after about a month they stopped snacking evenings and started going to bed 7ish. For ages they had two naps, one about 8.30/9am and one about 2pm. Then gradually they sitched to just one, 12-2. As they have done these things with no real intervention from me, i guess that's just what suits them...
  4. When they're ready, it's easy, when they're not it's impossible. DS1 we tried the Summer he was 2 1/2, he just weed and pood on the floor for a few weeks, so we gave up. In the Nov (2y 9m) he did his first wee on the loo at the minders (never used a potty even once) and rather nervously I junked nappies immediately... he was pretty much dry right away and had few accidents. Twin 2 (girl) has been using the potty for about 4m, since she was not even 2, if she has no nappy on she uses it 100% and only has an accident if we move it, or if she needs to go while in the highchair. Will bite the bullet and take away the nappies, prob next week(aaargh!) twin 1 (boy) is oblivious though sometimes asks to sit on the loo or the potty.
  5. Having twins we have this all the time. If I see one snatch from the other I will go and give it back (offended party will be shouting Ma turn! Sharing!) If they are just screeching and I am not sure why, I ignore it. I'd never get anything done if I involved myself in every incident. One of my twins is a bit wussy, but TBH, he needs to learn how to stand up for himself else the other WILL take everything off of him. he just has to get used to it or sort it out!!
