OK, if people fancy that and weather holds, make it the sandpit? I will have my nipper side by side buggy with me (pink and blue stripey snuggles) or I might have two mclarens that join together... and my picnic blanket is a cow patterned one. 10ish?

The best children's books ever?
Fuschia replied to Alec John Moore's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Another vote here for audiopbooks (esp in the car) Fidgety child no 1 will listen for hours. We get them from the library. When he was small we liked stuff that was good to read, yes... Gruffalo, Bear Hunt etc, and stuff with beautiful pictures Mr F has read all of the Narnia books and lots more besides... we have listened to Swallows and Amazons many times on CD. Son no 1 now reading Enid Blyton, Mr Gum etc and in the car we are listening to Eoin Colfer also recently the Runaway Troll (hilarious, must get more by that author) A 3-6h audiobook is perfect for a weekend away or a long journey -
How to describe the shock of the first 3 months...

I think an EDF new mum's support group would be lovely! Or mums with a bit oif free time when older ones are at nursery befriending new mums. I can certainly say that when our new one makes its appearance I will be in the market for other mums to give me moral support and go to the same playgroups as me so I am not trying to breastfeed one baby while running in opposite directions at the same time. It makes me feel incredibly thin just thinking of it! -

snowboarder Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Congrats F!! Are you pleased it's only the > one??!? > I am looking forward to having a bog standard normal pregnancy and planning a homebirth and being able to sit in cafes peacefully breastfeeidng one baby while eating cake.. of course my two demon toddlers are somehow airbrushed out of this scenario! Though when we had a scan recently, it was weird them looking at one baby then it was over. You also can't make quite so much fuss about having to stand up or wait in long queues. "I'm pregnant.. with TWINS!" But yes, one set of twins is enough!! Although the benefits far outweigh the hard bits, you do miss out on some of the things about having one baby. (baby swim classes, even..) As I didn't fully enjoy child no 1 as a baby as he was such hard work (and I was slow to adjust) and then the next baby turned out to be two... I guess that's why I had the broody urge to just do the normal thing this time (rose tinted glasses) -

First time round I found it quite lonely and very much a case of planning hard to make it manageable., but child no 1 was very hard work with the twins i loved it, though there were some very hard bits - esp 6 week summer hols with 1 5 yo and 2 x 4mos! Can't have been too bad as we're dihg it again (one baby only!) I do think it's easier if you know what to expect, appreciate it's a fleeting srage you WILL miss and also if you have a cicrle3 of freinds and support and are plugged into mummy things. I do think if mums on here are suffering they would reach out to others... I often chat to new mums, they prob think I'm weird! -

You can get feet measured at John Barnett and if not many shoes in stock, get a selection ordered in to Clarks Lewisham or Bromely, to try on http://www.clarks.co.uk/Firstshoes http://www.clarks.co.uk/HelpandInfo/StoresInStoreServices -

Christine Neillands is lovely. I didn't do a course with her, but individual sessions. Highly recommended. -

have you tssted it? if it has a very strong taste read this about excess lipase. I have to scald my milk before freezing http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/lipase-expressedmilk.html http://forums.llli.org/showthread.php?t=297

There are two things going on with this constant feeding/growth spurts I think The first is that the amount you feed at first has a direct effect on your breasts and how they respond to the milk hormone, prolactin http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/milkproduction.html The more you feed, the better your breasts become at milk production! Secondly, if you imagine a formula feeding mum starting off with a 4oz bottle then noticing the bottles are being drained and switching to a bigger bottle, ofering 5oz at every feed. How does your body know your bf baby has reached that point? Because you let her feed as much as she wants... she will do this constant feeding when she hits a growth spurt, it's like waving a little flag saying "Make more milk, please!" Because if you think what a tiny amount they take at first (when I syringe fed one of my twins, for the first 2 weeks she took less than an ounce per feed) if your body went straight into making 4,5,6oz at a time, frm day one, boy would you be engorged and getting mastitis!!! Nature is very clever... if you let her have her way! Just when our post birth bodies need to take it easy for a few weeks nature dictates we should sit in front of the TV with our tits out eating chocolate. Perfect!
