Even a charity is bound by legislation, inc employment legislation, fire safety etc, esp if running a shop http://www.babiesnappies.co.uk/2008/07/20/breastfeeding-in-public-the-laws-made-clear/ "?Mothers have to be confident that they can breastfeed their infants in a caf?, restaurant or shop without the embarrassment of having the owner ask them to stop. This type of discrimination has in fact been unlawful for more than thirty years, and the mother - with a baby of any age - could challenge the owner under the Sex Discrimination Act.?" I notice a lot of brand new identities on the forum created just to "have a pop" on this issue.
  2. For holidays I usually buy a bundle of cheap large tshirts (so age 8 for my 5 yo, age 3 for a baby) and use them as coverups on the beach, by the pool, and also to sleep in. We use them also when the children are ill (less fiddly for frequent changes)

Having had our buggy tip up getting off a train and son no 1 hanging down towards the track held just by his straps... I would ALWAYS strap in a new born in.. in case you throw them out bumping down a kerb!!!

  6. Ours is a double: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kiddopotamus-RayShade-Protective-Stroller-Double/dp/B0012RTM0O I have seen ones that are more of a fine mesh cover that zip up and don't allow any chink of air in, which might suit a tiny baby who won't argue! Ours, you do have to make sure feet aren't sticking out into the sun, but it lets them see out and lets a breeze through
  7. We have the IKEA chairs and ALWAYS strap them in and even then one of them has managed to escape and fall out a few times. If you start young so they expect to be strapped in, will save arguments later when you are dealing with a fractious toddler who doesn't want to stay put. As someone who uses the highchairs plus paper and crayons in place of a playpen when we need to confine our twins safely, the harness is truly our friend!!

Well, on that basis (noone is justified in complaining about anything short of death or mortal injury) there would be precious few posts on this forum that would get over the bar!

  10. Parasols are rubbish. The tent sort of things that stretch over the buggy are useful. I am not so sure about the tents, you need to be in the shade anyway, otherwise the tent gets really hot. When we took our little ones to Egypt we used big hats, sun suits, stayed in the shade and tied the buggy UV cover between sunbeds to make a safe UV protected space
  11. daizie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Here here hotchip .. makes you wonder how some of > these women got preganant in the first place :-S I don't think there's any need at all for the personal attacks that have now surfaced on this thread or the wild conjecture. In my mind the fault lies with MIND who clearly didn't have, or didn't publicise to their staff, a policy to support breastfeeding mothers (and privacy in the changing rooms) The mother concerned, her baby, family and witnesses were disturbed at what happened They were justified in speaking of their concerns both here and directly to MIND The press have picked up on it (after which, noone has control about how it goes) Is there any indication that the shop worker has been or will be subject to any sort of "punishment"? Where has this idea come from that he will be losing his job? Of course he won't. To accuse other women (and some men) who are rightly upset at the original treatment of the bf woman, of some sort of vendetta against the man in question is ridiculous and not born out by the facts. The rude comments are doing noone any good at all.
  12. cate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sillywoman, I said it would have been polite for > her to ask to use the changing room. I understood she was actually already in the changing room, changing! I have fed my babies lots of times in changing rooms. I regard myself as quite confident, but I can't see me asking a male shopkeeper if it's Ok to breastfeed! I'd feel very awkward.
  13. The worst thing about this sort of incident is that by making women uncomfortable about breastfeeding in public (and I'd think twice about feeding around some of those who post on the EDF on this subject!) it actually reduces the incidence of bf in the UK, which is already at an abysmal low compared with the rest of Europe, and the knock on effects of that cost the NHS a lot of money.

I would prefer the green to again be split in two, poo area and no poo area.
  15. I believe if you want care through the midwives at yuour drs surgery, you need to choose it right away as they get full and you can't switch later This applies whether or not you wnat to actually give birth in Kings. If you can book with community midwives and get continuity of care, do it. Just pitching up to Kings on their general list and not knowing any of the staff really isn't optimal.
  16. I have been fighting a bit of a campaign about swelfish parking at Heber, and w ehave seen both local police down there and also traffic wardens. Some parents still do whatever they can get away with though.
  17. After the same man was rude to me I don't take stuff in there anymore, I send Mr F in if necessary!
  18. I'm not very impressed at the idea the staff can look into the changing rooms, regardless of whether or not we might be bf in there.. what happened to basic privacy?!
  19. I always have ours done one at a time!!

  21. I note out of 3 times they saw a dog pooing, 1 case the owner didn't pick it up (they seem to thinks that's GOOD) 40 amounts of dog litter were counted at an event held on June 22, 2009 37 amounts of dog litter were counted at an event held on March 2, 2009 I wouldn't take my children there since they let dogs run free

  23. There is stuff at Dulwich College and JAGS, and much more cheaply, run by Southwark and Lewisham Councils... also things at various churches etc
  24. You mean ideas for things you can do with them? Or childcare/playschemes?
  25. Ikea!! Fab. You can also take the legs off and take away with you on holiday etc. You can get a blow up insert if your bbay is a bit floppy still.
