  1. Hello forumites, Does anyone have any recent experience of completing LPAs? I?m thinking we (family) can do them ourselves but also wondering what, if any, advantage there is to paying for a solicitor? How careful do we need to be with the wording in the special instructions section? Would also be interested in experiences / hints / tips when it comes to actually using them. We are three sisters and the plan is that I am listed as the attorney for both mum and dad for both health and finance, and then my two sisters are joint and several replacement attorneys. And a neighbour has recently met with mum and dad and said she will be happy to certify that they are doing this freely and while in good health/ mental capacity. Many thanks
  2. Hello - I've not been able to read through all the previous comments on the thread so apologies if I'm repeating a point here - but ref James Barber on p1 saying it will cost a lot to repair... My understanding is that a whole load of money has already been spent on repairing it - so I have voted for it to reopen on the basis of not wasting that investment as well as the significant inconvenience of it being closed. It's a road. It's meant to be driven on!
  3. Thanks everyone, much appreciated

    bed-buying

Hello, just wondering if anyone has ideas/ recommendations for buying new beds? Looking for divan with drawers and decent mattress, and ideally 3 week delivery. Do I go with Dreams/Bensons for Beds or are there better options out there? TIA!
  6. Steve has just replaced my washing machine - he makes everything look so easy and straightforward! Another strong recommendation.
  7. Alternatively... Can anyone recommend a showroom where I might be able to take a look at a few different types of upvc french doors? I've done my best with Google but still struggling to figure out key differences. Have had three vastly different quotes and unclear on whether it's the labour or materials that are making the difference in price. (Hmmm, maybe I should ask for more specific quotes!) I clearly don't want to pay over the odds but I'm also really keen to avoid very thick frames, looking for the best size sightlines. Thanks again.
  8. Hello, can anyone advise me on the pros / cons of various systems such as Rehau, Veka, Liniar, Eurocell. Interested to know about differences in quality and price and look. Many thanks!
  9. Hi, my mum has decided that she really wants to knit a blanket for my cousin's baby - and as she's not very well (my mum that is) she wants my help in finding the pattern and wool and needles etc. I have found a shop that she likes where I can buy whatever materials are needed but we are still struggling to find a suitable pattern. Not because there aren't loads available, just because my mum is, well, very particular. She doesn't like any of the patterns in the many magazines I've bought and she doesn't like anything I've found online either. So - can anyone please recommend a really simple knitting pattern - in her words it should be "simple to knit, attractive to look at, just a little pattern in it." She doesn't want it to turn in to a big palava - it will help her to concentrate but she won't be able to focus too much or for too long - so something simple and straightforward but not boring... Anyone? Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you...
  10. Hi Alex, I am definitely no expert but I have recently rewritten my will so can share a little of what I learned from the solicitor re: foreign assets - A UK will would cover all foreign assets, worldwide, and automatically include them in your estate, ie treat them in the same way as other assets for IHT purposes - the only exception is in the case of immovable assets ie land or property, in which case you need to have a will in any country where those assets are held, and to then reference that / those wills in your UK will. I'm sure others will have more pertinent advice but basically I think you could do worse than speak to any decent solicitor, as they should all be able to advise on at least the basics here.
  11. I think the deadline is tonight or tomorrow - in case anyone is feeling positively societal this evening... I've just filled it in (opting for the Camberwell / Peckham option of course :-)) but also suggesting more express buses could help, we have an X68 so why not an X12 and X171 and X36 and X436....
  12. It's ok, quids, I've got 3G so all good :-) It was just idle curiosity really. Boris wants to get sponsorship apparently so needs to prove it works but I've not seen any signs myself. ???? 13. I remember hearing about this "wifi on the bus" trial but I'm on a no.12 right now, oh joy, and don't have any hotspots appearing. Anyone know any more about this?
