  1. Arctic Monkeys; a case of the emperor's new clothes if ever there was one.
  2. Double 8's next to double 16 if you go in the fat bit. The other advantage is you can go double 8 4 2 1 if you reeally need to, if you're my standard. Others eg double 18 you end up with double 9 if you miss, miss that and then it's odd numbers and extra darts. Just for fun, Sid said... http://www.xlab.co.uk/extras/quotes/?source=waddell

  4. I have a bit of a principle of trying not to not finish a book once I've started but one of the few books I've started which broke that rule was Vanity Fayre - unfortunately it was one of my A-Level set texts. Forecast A, actual D. I should have read it.

Did > you have have 'dust' an' that falling off of you? > The hat was old, a hat I'd had pre Mission, and had been most recently worn, as I recall, at an exceptionally flour-y gig in Bromley for which I'd forked out for a B&B. The venue remains hazy, Civic Hall or something? Felt more like a Parish Hall and the B&B felt more like a naughty seaside gaff for a Mr and Mrs Smith (not the posh version). Happy days.
  6. Sure this is Tiscali and not BT? I'm not sure if lines are Tiscali lines here,

N-Joi and all that.
  8. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love it. It's just having mrs ruffers sitting next to me shouting that "the Painter should've hit that double, he's in trouble now!" is a bit disconcerting. I suppose buying her PDC Darts on the Wii for Christmas was just asking for trouble. And Taylor demolished him tonight - great match this afternoon Nicholson vs Lewis though, telly doesn't get better.
  9. Love Like Blood - Killing Joke Probably done before but there's 151 pages to check....
  10. http://www.discogs.com/release/328892 Lounge. Wrong thread you say?

I've got a Bikini Red vinyl album at my parents' place if you want it - will need to get up in their loft but let me know. Went to see them at 100 Club about that time and was mistaken for Carl McCoy out of Fields Of The Nephilim. Happy days. As you were.
  12. As a general rule I'd rather regret what I did (as a proactive action) than what I didn't do. Therefore - go to the party. What's the worst than can happen? vs What's the best? :-)
  13. Background - Mrs ruffers has mentioned to me a few times over the years that the best bit of a football match is a penalty shoot out, and in fact all games should end this way... I happened to mention that she would probably enjoy darts on the telly as it's just like constant penalty shoot outs. As you may be aware the PDC World Darts Championship is currently taking place on Sky Sports from Ally Pally and I put it on a few days ago to test out my theory. Big mistake. Biiig mistake. We're at the point now where she says "I don't mind the darts you know" when I start looking through other channels. Then if I change she says "No, ruffers, I DON'T MIND THE DARTS, YOU CAN PUT IT BACK ON. NOW." We're going to see it live next year.
  14. An incident of some kind I reckon.
  15. As I watch The Terminator on Sky Screen 2HD.... Disagree about plasma. As each plasma pixel emits its own light that means blacks can be black, lcd's have a light in them to illuminate the pixels so black still has some light in it and is gray - contrast ratios have a big impact on picture quality. Also fast moving action is better, although lcd's are much better thn they were and are getting better there's still a bit of blur about them you don't get with plasma especially at the cheaper end of the market. This is much more of a factor on big screens, say 42" plus. Regarding the five year comment I'd say that's not an issue as I'd be expecting to replace a telly not long after that anyway. (I'll be getting an OLED then at a guess) To balance, yes they use a lot of power, they get hot, and they're really, really heavy. But any telly looks abysmal over the fireplace.
  16. Yes you do. You want plasma if you want blacks to look black, and Sky HD's worth it if you have Movies and Sport etc although it sounds like you don't want to be spending money. One word of advice is to give just as much emphasis to your prospective telly's sd performance as you'll mostly be watching that for a good while yet.
  17. I had to look up this definition of 'bears' - I had a slightly different image in my mind.
  18. I said 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps'and I'm getting very thirsty.... Who sang "Toast", a little piece of toast? Same kind of era.....?
  19. I can only access edf from home since the great server move of December 2008 anyway. Clearly I've upped my work based toilet time to compensate. Always poo on company time kids.
  20. Wa-hey! Resources available in January. As a City fan at the start of the season I thought, if we did well, we could be looking at top top players. Kaka? Messi? As a City fan at the end of October I thought we could be looking at OK upper mid Premiership players. Santa Cruz? Owen? As a City fan approaching the transfer window I'm dreaming of West Ham's Centre Half. Upson? It's a laugh innit....
  21. I 'possibly' don't know enough about this to argue it theologically, but what I find fascinating is the fact that the Pope felt the need /chose to say this stuff. Genuine question - why? What was he hoping to achieve?. Or have we got ten seconds of a four hour speech blown up?
  22. Not seen the individuals of whom you speak but.... as I get older (and I'm in my fifth decade) my perception of the age of a mid/late teens / early twenties person is getting increasingly wonky, (and especially girls). Ah well.
  23. At what point do we decide something isn't worth preserving and just crack on? At some point it's not an academic issue and is a real world, junk house at the end of the road, becoming a problem real thing. Ideal world - one thing. Let's just get on with it.
  24. Thames Water is Tunneling under your house - No they're not. I manage to get subsidence without their help though, yay me.
