  1. I commute to chancery lane! Which end of chancery lane are you? I am close to the Holborn end. It,s quite quick from ED or peckham rye station, about 10 mins. Then you can either get the 521 bus or the tube ( northern to bank, and then the central line) I prefer to get the bus in the morning. The bit that will add time to your journey is how far away you are from the station. Luckily we are quite close about 8-10 mins walk. One thing I would recommend is to try and get close to peckham rye station if transport is important to you. From there you can catch trains to LB, Victoria, blackfriars, kings cross and you can get on the ginger line.
  2. Thanks for replies everyone. Sunbob, I had no idea either until recently, when I was behind a family with 3 kids trying to pass through the wide barriers. The eldest child looked about 7 or 8 and the guard refused to let them pass because they did not have a ticket for the eldest child. This was at Victoria Station. It had never really occurred to me before, I had assumed that children under 11 travel free everywhere on public transport. It seems that it is only on TFL routes that under 11s travel free. So the overground and underground are free, but not the main rail network eg ED to London Bridge or Peckham Rye to LB, blackfriars, Victoria etc! Looks like will have to get a zip oyster for my 5 year old.
  3. Hi now that minikatsu is 5, he no longer travels free on the train to London bridge. So what do we do, does it mean we have to buy a child ticket every time we travel with him (a pain) or can we beep him through on our prepay Oyster cards? how does that work I.e. how does the oyster reader know that it is a child and not an adult, and charge accordingly?
  4. Hello winter mummies and daddies - I hope you won;t think I am being cheeky posting on here. I have a Bloom fresco high chair for sale in the classified section. The reason I am posting here is because I really got the most benefit out of it when my babies were very little i.e. in the early days before they could sit, or even hold their head up properly. it meant that I didn;t have to have a Bumbo/bouncy chair on the floor in the kitchen. Would genuinely love for some other babies to get lots of use out of it. I will post some photos eventually, but you are welcome to come and look at it or try it out!! (see ad below) Hi, we have a Bloom Fresco high chair for sale for ?50. Looks like this [www.johnlewis.com] It is 4.5 years old but in really good condition and both my kids have loved it. The only thing missing is the footrest (which you can buy as a spare part for about ?30) but you don;t really need it for a newborn. Our cover is blue, and we bought it new when my little girl was born so it is also in good condition. The best thing about it is that it is suitable from birth, so you can have you baby next to you in the kitchen while you are doing stuff around the kitchen or eating family meals. The chair swivels all the way around so the baby can face different ways easily. I have really loved it and only selling it because my 2 year old now wants a triptrap like her brother. Will post photos, but you can come round to see it this weekend. Or bring your baby round and try it out! You will probably need a car if you want to take it with you as the base is quite heavy.
  5. Yes the dressing up is such a pain! Hats off to all the parents out there who have the skills and ideas to create an outfit out of two tea towels and a pair of old tights, but what about the rest of us? No choice but to buy an outfit. Now I have to search for one online and hope that it turns up before Thursday. Sigh.
  6. We went to Brixton Ritzy and it was great. Easy to get to and nice comfy seats. Thanks every one.
  7. Hi, thinking about taking minikatsu to watch the Lego movie on Friday. Not sure where though? Has anyone been and can you recommend? Would prefer somewhere in town so we can make a day adventure out of it, and maybe booster seats for kids? Thanks!
  8. The takeaway is open. The takeaway is very very busy.
  9. Hi, they are open but crazy busy. I think their phone is basically continuously busy. We couldn't get through last night so walked there to order, was told it would be at least an hour... So we gave up and will try again mid week!
  10. Hi, you have my sympathies (for what it's worth). It sounds like a more extreme version of how my little boy behaved when his sister was born too. He would keep himself awake by constantly shouting for us, refusing to nap during the day when he was exhausted and just generally being really difficult during the day. What helped me was: Going to bed very early, I,m talking 8:30pm latest so I could get some sleep in the early evening. Although i was breastfeeding, my husband would do a bottle feed about ten pm before he went off to bed. We had to have different coloured muslins to use when bottle feeding as she would refuse the bottle if she could smell breastmilk on the muslins! My little boy went to nursery for 2 full days a week. I was worried that he would think he was being abandoned but actually he enjoyed it AND would nap at nursery for hours (!!!) which he completely refused to do at home! It was galling that I was paying for him to sleep somewhere, but it meant that we could both have a rest and I was much more patient with him those days when he was at home. It is expensive when you are on maternity leave, but definitely worth it if you can afford it. And basically just giving up on trying to get him to nap during the day when he was with me. Once when his sister was napping and I was desperately trying to get him to nap, he kept shouting and shouting for me and I was up and down the stairs until I just shouted at him, What do you want?!! And he replied, I want you Mummy. So that was that! I can't really remember how long this went on for, but things did get better after a few months. Sleep deprivation is awful and I really feel for you. I used to feel like a terrible mother too, especially when he was being difficult and it seemed that all I had been doing that day was shout at him. Ugh. Sorry for the rather long winded post but hope you can see there is light at the end of the tunnel. My little one is 2 now and although there are still jealousy issues, they manifest in different ways. Still tricky but at least I am getting a proper sleep now. Good luck with it all.
  11. Yes there is a lift, walk though to Waterloo station and there is a lift down to the main level. Then as poster above said, there is a step free access ( by the taxis and bicycles). From there easy walk down to the southbank. We love going there!
  12. A new primary school on the old Bellenden school site, wow that's interesting to know. Too late for my kids, but good news for our little area I think. I have always thought it was a shame that that big building seemed a little under-used.
  13. I thought (like dbboy) that if the posts were in your garden, that was your fence. edited for v bad typing
  14. If you are going on a weekday, train to London Bridge, then 521 bus which goes past St Pauls. From there it is a really short walk. The 521 is a single decker bus with lots of standing room inside, so as long as you are outside rush hour it is easy for buggies.
  15. Hi, do they have kids booster seats in Peckhamplex?
  16. MillerJude sounds like you felt awful that day, hope you are feeling better about it now. But, I do agree with AlexK in that it should be OK for other "grown ups" to reprimand our children if they have been naughty. I don,t mean shouting or being abusive, but just a shake of the head and a "look" is ok... Even welcome sometimes..I wouldn't see it as a reflection of my bad parenting, just another adult reinforcing the message that "whatever" is simply unacceptable. I don,t meaAn to say that your son is naughty by the way! Ps I have never rated Luca's either! I think they made a decision when they opened to discourage children, eg no high chairs and have simply carried it on since then. Edited for v bad typing
  17. They've always been nice to me and my two. I've never felt unwanted there. Mind you, my husband says that I am the only person who thinks the service at WongKei (a notorious restaurant in Chinatown) is fine - speedy and efficient, what more do you want??
  18. Hi, we have stayed at the Harlyn Inn which is just opposite Harlyn Bay. http://www.harlyn-inn.co.uk/ The beach is great (sandy and shallow) and also has rock pools etc. There are only a few (literally 4 or 5) steps down to the beach. It was great being so close to the beach, which meant we could just go for a quick play before everyone else was up. And we found that a few hours in the morning at the beach was enough for minikatsu. So we all napped together in the afternoon which made it really nice and relaxing.. (he doesn;t nap now...grrr) But we were sharing a house with my sister's family, which made it affordable. Good luck with your search!
  19. 9 past and still no email!! I'm going mad....Have others received theirs??

My husband and I both noticed it because we were with our two young children near the cafe and the dog was off its lead. We particularly noticed the dog because it was off its lead and trotted past a sign saying "dogs to be on short leads". I didn't notice the owners but my husband did, and just to confirm - your description above is spot on. The only to add is that they were wearing short sleeved light coloured (possibly England) sports type Loose fitting T shirts and shiny navy track suits bottoms. We got on the pedalos at 11:30 so the attack must have been just after we saw them. How awful, as the park was absolutely packed as well. Although maybe people were just really shocked? It was such a lovely sunny day and everyone was out. Please get in touch if you need anything from us.
  21. Thanks everyone, I am veering towards the Blackfriars and district line route. Will let you know how I get on!
  22. Hi have been thinking about going to the science museum tomorrow with minikatsu. Someone recommended the 345 bus from Peckham which goes straight there - but I've just looked at the bus timetable online, and it says it will take about 1 hour 15 minutes. When we have been before we have taken the train to Victoria and then bus to the museum, but now that there are only 2 trains an hour to Victoria from PR I am trying to avoid that. The other option is train to LB, then Jubilee line and District Line. The bus would be the easiest but not sure if I c(or minikatsu) will be able to manage one and half hours on the bus!
  23. We had the same problem a few months ago when my son's chicken pox got infected and he needed antibiotics. He took the first dose OK but then refused after that. We (me and MrKatsu) tasted it and it was vilest thing we had ever tasted. We only managed to get him to take it by mixing it with golden syrup, about 50/50 mix. It's only short term and it is more important for him to have the medicine...(that's what we thought) Even then it was still disgusting and he would still spit out some of it. Good luck!
