Winter babies club (due Dec 2013, Jan/ Feb 2014)
KatsuQueen replied to tarafitness's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello winter mummies and daddies - I hope you won;t think I am being cheeky posting on here. I have a Bloom fresco high chair for sale in the classified section. The reason I am posting here is because I really got the most benefit out of it when my babies were very little i.e. in the early days before they could sit, or even hold their head up properly. it meant that I didn;t have to have a Bumbo/bouncy chair on the floor in the kitchen. Would genuinely love for some other babies to get lots of use out of it. I will post some photos eventually, but you are welcome to come and look at it or try it out!! (see ad below) Hi, we have a Bloom Fresco high chair for sale for ?50. Looks like this [www.johnlewis.com] It is 4.5 years old but in really good condition and both my kids have loved it. The only thing missing is the footrest (which you can buy as a spare part for about ?30) but you don;t really need it for a newborn. Our cover is blue, and we bought it new when my little girl was born so it is also in good condition. The best thing about it is that it is suitable from birth, so you can have you baby next to you in the kitchen while you are doing stuff around the kitchen or eating family meals. The chair swivels all the way around so the baby can face different ways easily. I have really loved it and only selling it because my 2 year old now wants a triptrap like her brother. Will post photos, but you can come round to see it this weekend. Or bring your baby round and try it out! You will probably need a car if you want to take it with you as the base is quite heavy. -
Yes the dressing up is such a pain! Hats off to all the parents out there who have the skills and ideas to create an outfit out of two tea towels and a pair of old tights, but what about the rest of us? No choice but to buy an outfit. Now I have to search for one online and hope that it turns up before Thursday. Sigh.

We went to Brixton Ritzy and it was great. Easy to get to and nice comfy seats. Thanks every one.

Hi, thinking about taking minikatsu to watch the Lego movie on Friday. Not sure where though? Has anyone been and can you recommend? Would prefer somewhere in town so we can make a day adventure out of it, and maybe booster seats for kids? Thanks!

Hi, you have my sympathies (for what it's worth). It sounds like a more extreme version of how my little boy behaved when his sister was born too. He would keep himself awake by constantly shouting for us, refusing to nap during the day when he was exhausted and just generally being really difficult during the day. What helped me was: Going to bed very early, I,m talking 8:30pm latest so I could get some sleep in the early evening. Although i was breastfeeding, my husband would do a bottle feed about ten pm before he went off to bed. We had to have different coloured muslins to use when bottle feeding as she would refuse the bottle if she could smell breastmilk on the muslins! My little boy went to nursery for 2 full days a week. I was worried that he would think he was being abandoned but actually he enjoyed it AND would nap at nursery for hours (!!!) which he completely refused to do at home! It was galling that I was paying for him to sleep somewhere, but it meant that we could both have a rest and I was much more patient with him those days when he was at home. It is expensive when you are on maternity leave, but definitely worth it if you can afford it. And basically just giving up on trying to get him to nap during the day when he was with me. Once when his sister was napping and I was desperately trying to get him to nap, he kept shouting and shouting for me and I was up and down the stairs until I just shouted at him, What do you want?!! And he replied, I want you Mummy. So that was that! I can't really remember how long this went on for, but things did get better after a few months. Sleep deprivation is awful and I really feel for you. I used to feel like a terrible mother too, especially when he was being difficult and it seemed that all I had been doing that day was shout at him. Ugh. Sorry for the rather long winded post but hope you can see there is light at the end of the tunnel. My little one is 2 now and although there are still jealousy issues, they manifest in different ways. Still tricky but at least I am getting a proper sleep now. Good luck with it all.

Yes there is a lift, walk though to Waterloo station and there is a lift down to the main level. Then as poster above said, there is a step free access ( by the taxis and bicycles). From there easy walk down to the southbank. We love going there!

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
KatsuQueen replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
A new primary school on the old Bellenden school site, wow that's interesting to know. Too late for my kids, but good news for our little area I think. I have always thought it was a shame that that big building seemed a little under-used. -
I thought (like dbboy) that if the posts were in your garden, that was your fence. edited for v bad typing

Easiest route to Museum of London via public transport?
KatsuQueen replied to Mrs TP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you are going on a weekday, train to London Bridge, then 521 bus which goes past St Pauls. From there it is a really short walk. The 521 is a single decker bus with lots of standing room inside, so as long as you are outside rush hour it is easy for buggies. -
Hi, do they have kids booster seats in Peckhamplex?

Mum Prejudice at Anderson's Cafe
KatsuQueen replied to gillandjoe's topic in The Family Room Discussion
They've always been nice to me and my two. I've never felt unwanted there. Mind you, my husband says that I am the only person who thinks the service at WongKei (a notorious restaurant in Chinatown) is fine - speedy and efficient, what more do you want?? -
Hi, we have stayed at the Harlyn Inn which is just opposite Harlyn Bay. http://www.harlyn-inn.co.uk/ The beach is great (sandy and shallow) and also has rock pools etc. There are only a few (literally 4 or 5) steps down to the beach. It was great being so close to the beach, which meant we could just go for a quick play before everyone else was up. And we found that a few hours in the morning at the beach was enough for minikatsu. So we all napped together in the afternoon which made it really nice and relaxing.. (he doesn;t nap now...grrr) But we were sharing a house with my sister's family, which made it affordable. Good luck with your search!

My husband and I both noticed it because we were with our two young children near the cafe and the dog was off its lead. We particularly noticed the dog because it was off its lead and trotted past a sign saying "dogs to be on short leads". I didn't notice the owners but my husband did, and just to confirm - your description above is spot on. The only to add is that they were wearing short sleeved light coloured (possibly England) sports type Loose fitting T shirts and shiny navy track suits bottoms. We got on the pedalos at 11:30 so the attack must have been just after we saw them. How awful, as the park was absolutely packed as well. Although maybe people were just really shocked? It was such a lovely sunny day and everyone was out. Please get in touch if you need anything from us.

Thanks everyone, I am veering towards the Blackfriars and district line route. Will let you know how I get on!

Hi have been thinking about going to the science museum tomorrow with minikatsu. Someone recommended the 345 bus from Peckham which goes straight there - but I've just looked at the bus timetable online, and it says it will take about 1 hour 15 minutes. When we have been before we have taken the train to Victoria and then bus to the museum, but now that there are only 2 trains an hour to Victoria from PR I am trying to avoid that. The other option is train to LB, then Jubilee line and District Line. The bus would be the easiest but not sure if I c(or minikatsu) will be able to manage one and half hours on the bus!

Help, toddler refusing antibiotics...
KatsuQueen replied to Gooders79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had the same problem a few months ago when my son's chicken pox got infected and he needed antibiotics. He took the first dose OK but then refused after that. We (me and MrKatsu) tasted it and it was vilest thing we had ever tasted. We only managed to get him to take it by mixing it with golden syrup, about 50/50 mix. It's only short term and it is more important for him to have the medicine...(that's what we thought) Even then it was still disgusting and he would still spit out some of it. Good luck! -
Overheard in the PLayground . . .
KatsuQueen replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Wow, is this really the values that this PTA mother is passing onto her children? when i was little my grandmother told me that it was more important for women to study hard and be able earn a living, whether it be through professional means, or a skill like cooking/sewing/sewing. She said that men are physically stronger and they basically "rule the world" and women had to be tough and bear hardship. Because men can walk away from their children but women can't. And the worst pain you will ever feel as a woman is if you see your children going without food, clothes, security. When you see other children having things that you would love to give your children, but you just can;t. Probably not relevant in the UK, but it still resonates with me today. For women of her generation, and (for millions of women elsewhere now) women were at the mercy of their husbands/fathers etc. She had a hard life my grandmother! -
It sounds like it's the mother who really wants to be friends with you/your family. And it sounds like you don't really want to be friends with her. Even less so as your children don't get on anyway. I think I would keep making excuses until she takes the hint. Not sure how I would deal with the walking home bit though. Very tricky.

Thank you so much for your info and recommendations everyone. We have booked somewhere now and really looking forward to it!

Advice for middle class parents

This is hilarious! Unfortunately I am in the "subset" of dirty badly presented children with snot covered clothes and no money either, hahahaha! -
Thanks everyone, we've heard great things about Dorset generally and thought we would visit this year.

Hi, we are thinking about a week in Swanage, Dorset later this year. Hoping that someone on here can recommend somewhere they have stayed before or places to avoid? Any top tips? Would be nice to have somewhere close to the beach but also close to the towns, museums, child-friendly places etc. Had a terrible week in Cornwall where it rained all week and there was nothing for our (then) 2.5 year old to do. By the end of the week we were climbing the walls and longing for London. I know you can never guarentee sunshine in the UK. but it would be nice if there were other things we could do in the bad weather.
