  1. Lol, no absolutely don't work for them, I just checked out what they offer and it does seem quite different to an ordinary gym (also remembering previous discussions on here where the ES people weighed in on what their plans were). Forumites really are jumpy these days about anyone saying anything that's not negative aren't they? I wasn't even being overly positive, I'd just read up on their website. E
  2. We're missing some contact details for a couple of people who became members of the EDWI and want to get in touch. If you're one of the women below (or you know them), could you please send me a private message so we can contact them? Geraldine Mulherrin Marie Porcas Emily Wilson Thanks Elizabeth
  3. Mark, it's [email protected] - I just got another letter through today. Elizabeth
  4. It looks like the ES place isn't really a gym in the usual sense. Their classes are kept to a maximum of four people (according to their website) and are to be run by physiotherapists. It sounds like a different sort of service, more focused on rehabilitation and personalised exercise. Hence the higher costs perhaps?
  5. I've been once, must have been about June and the food was pretty average. Haven't been back, but may try it again. E

I've had a Foxton's sales letter in Ulverscroft Rd. My only experience of them has been as a renter and the fees they charge to tenants are just so high, I think it was about ?370 around this time last year when I was looking in Ealing. Of course, coming from Australia, I was horrified to discover that tenants pay fees in the UK. The industry is regulated in Aust and no fees at all can be charged to tenants (and as a tenant you also don't pay the council tax on your rental property). E
  7. A friend and I were in there on Friday morning and it was just lovely. Really nice food, great tea and friendly staff, plus it felt very peaceful. I'll be a regular I think! E
  8. My vote goes to the Uplands too. I'm also a veggie and they did a good veg sausage (don't have chips with my fry up so can't comment). Tried Blue Brick recently and the service left quite a bit to be desired, but the food was pretty good and inexpensive
  9. Just checked it, I'm definitely (on Dad's side) the 6th generation in Australia (from England). The guy who brought the family over was born in 1826 I think. I think it's about the same length on the other side too (though mostly from Germany), which is even more surprising.
  10. I've been to the BM a couple of times now and I've really enjoyed it. The food's been tasty and the staff's been pleasant and I haven't been kept waiting long. Good to hear a positive report on Jack's. I spotted it the other day and am looking forward to trying it out. Elizabeth
  11. :) thanks. Now you've got me nervous and I'm going to have to revisit the history and check to make sure, as it does sound rather a long way back. But I remember working it out when I did a project on family history at school, so should be right.

Oooh that's very good news, they're right around the corner from me! Do you suppose they'll do a veggie pie and mash too? Elizabeth
  14. Thanks for posting this. After having a skirt cleaned by two different cleaners, they both messed it up and I've been very nervous about getting other delicate clothes cleaned since. Sounds like Friends of Fabric or Scobies are the best ones for me to try. I have a vintage velvet top that was my grandmother's that I need cleaned, so need to be reassured it will be treated well.
  15. Monica, what can the WI do to help? I'd be very happy to add it to the agenda to chat about at the next meeting, though it may be quite a packed agenda already, so if we could help with something in particular before your deadline, let me know and I can put it to the group. Elizabeth
  16. Good luck in finding him, I'll keep everything crossed for you! Do post a picture if you can.
  17. Thanks batdog, hi Kristin If you visit our EDWI google group you can join there. Elizabeth
  18. Oh wow, thanks Belle. I missed it and am about to run out the door, but hope to use the 'listen again' feature on the BBC website. Elizabeth
  19. He must have a very relaxed pub landlord! Dammit, the trousers are gone - I wanted to watch as someone sheepishly picked them up and I missed it (me, a curtain twitcher?!).
  20. There's a pair of trousers looking alone and forlorn on Goose Green this morning. Not sure if they're lost drycleaning or if someone had a really good night last night.
  21. I'll volunteer to add it to the agenda for the next WI meeting. You guys seem to have the plans well wrapped up, but I'm sure the EDWI would be interested. What sort of areas would you need assistance in that I could suggest at the WI meeting for discussion? Elizabeth
  22. Yeah, I can move them both independently - I start cross-eyed and then move one and then the other. Freaks people out! Forgot I could do that :)
  23. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As well as the keyhole thing, I can make one eye > stay still and the other one move :)) Oh oh I can do that too! E
  24. Hee hee, yeah I think quite a few people could join you in that claim. Most of my associations are the more common ones (colours with letters and words, numbers, months etc), but there's a few that relate to specific...er...sensations, that make me quite unique according to one researcher. E
