I'd Echo Jimmyraj's comments. I live just off Bellenden on Maxted Rd and like it enormously. I've never felt unsafe wandering around the area late at night (taking the usual precautions re: phone etc). I've now got a young family and have no concerns. The parade of shops has some real stalwarts and also some shops that seem ever changing. The new haidressers has been three different cafes and a reading project before it's latest incarnation this year. There are some odd artists shops/studios that add character. The small supermarket is handy. Transport couldn't be better. You're only 10mins from both stations and the bottom of Lordship Lane. Housing stock is good and the streets that got the regeneration money some years ago have wonderful street furniture and matching walls and railings. Considering it's cheaper than SE22 I think it's the best place to live locally. But then I would say that....;-)

It's as suitable for children as a normal drinking session in a pub would be i.e. not very. They're welcome to attend (and even compete) but remain responsibility of their parents. So you know - be sensible. > Will Henslowe Road be two way to prevent making > part of E Dulwich inaccessible? Errr....no. There are no road closures. The police are not notified. Nor is the council. This isn't the Chiacago marathon. It's three dozen fat, drunk and sweaty men running from one pub to another. We try and avoid getting run over by taking the sensible precaution of looking where we are going. -
Otta/*Bob* No class issue here. Only in your head. But if you don't even like/get burgers then why even comment? It'd be like me commenting on a thread asking about the best nail bar. And if you really can't tell the difference or prefer a McDonalds to some like a Byron/Goodman/MeatWagon etc burger you're being either deliberately provocative (look at me - I'm not going with majority opinion on something "cool") or your tastebuds and curled up into a foetal position and begun to rock themselves into a coma.

Except for the other market. The one called "Brixton Market". Yeah, not that one. The other one. No, it doesn't have a name. Well it did. But then we got rid of it so some guy callled *Bob* would come here.

Because Orson Wells was from Sydenham?

But then Newcastle have 8 out injured to Spurs 10 and are romping along. Que?

Brixton Pantry??? And you think Village has a metropolitan wankyness to it?! ;-) Of course *Bob* looks on with his usual aloof disdain for anyone with less discernment than him and passes judgement accordingly.
-
Is it really that wanky? Brixton Hameau Brixton Pueblo THOSE are wanky. I can't think of anything better, can you?
-
This offends your utilitarian ethics? You'd prefer: Brixton Small Collection of Disparate Shops? Brixton Arcade? Brixton Precinct? Brixton Food Mall? Or perhaps not call it anything and just have people refer to "you know, that place with all the nice things"?
-
Excellent news. Brixton village is pretty cool and with Franco Manca round the corner, the food options that way are outstanding.

Mother Flipper at Brockley Market every Saturday are a close approximation but lack a certain "filth". Does save you a trip to town though. Can't say I really enjoyed the bricks'n'morter versions of Meatwagon (in New Cross). Yet to find anything nearly as good locally - they are all far too overcooked. Anyone tried one from the Drafthouse yet?

Church in Camberwell that does jazz in the crypt/basement on a Fri or Sat night. Lots of nice places to eat before or after too.

Your mind reading powers are truly sensational that you, and you alone, know which of William Rose's customers use his shop for their tasty produce and which use the shop because they are pretentious. Can you spot them in the queue just by looking at them? Do they have a uniform? Hemp bags perhaps?

News Corps Proposed take over of BSKYB

But we had football. It was on BBC and ITV every week. Games kicked off at normal times on a Saturday and the money in the game was reasonable. Sky blew it all to smithereens. I'm still not convinced there was some simmering hunger for gossip and rumour and tits before Murdoch. He introduced that to British media. -

Build it and they will come? I don't know. Was everyone in the 1970s crying out for the NoTW to reduce itself to the gutter press. Or the Sun to do the same. Sure, they had always been papers for the working man, but christ, at least they had standards and insight and educated the reader. I'd find it hard to believe anyone reads the Sun these days and learns anything. And Sky. Were we really unhappy with four channels of quality tv rather than 104 of shopping and chat shows? I know these days it runs US imports of worth but they'd still be being bought by the BBC, ITV or Ch4 if Sky wasn't there. And they ruined football too. I don't think anyone "wanted" or "asked" for any of it. We just stood by slack jawed and let it happen. The dyke burst and there is no turning back. -

Adam Curtis is always good for a read. So, when the dust settles on all this, who do we think will be the victor(s)? Politicians? The public? Or the Murdochs? I know who my money is on... -

So, EDF-ers, what do we make of allegations of collusion by Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt with BSkyB/NewsInt to ensure their merger took place. His SpAd has now stepped down. 3.3 of the Ministerial Code states that the actions of the Special Adviser are the responsibility of the Minister. He concedes his activities went to far. Should we believe Hunt knew nothing of this? -
Yeah I saw them from Victoria. The first one looked like a surveillance aircraft (Sentry?) escorted by two Typhoons. The second was a transporter (a Tri-Star I think) escorted by two Tornados. No idea what for or why though. Some sort of fly past or returning home to Northfleet?

Carrying a clipboard in an unseemly manner? Being called Peter File? Bonkers.

I'm still yet to be convinced that either: a) He has broken any law b) Could possibly use the information he gathered for nefarious purposes So I'm concerned that this sort of thing gets reported on a public forum and this chap gets demonised or labelled. Trial by mob. Also, someone asked why do this in a park rather than through a school. I'm presuming that if it is the opinions of teenagers that is wanted, a park during the Easter holidays would seem a sensible place to go. Also, approaching a group of friends wouldn't seem to be the behaviour of someone acting suspiciously - a lone teen would seem a more logical target.

I've been paid to give my opinion on beer bottle labels so there's money for old rope out there. Market research companies pay for all sorts of nonsense. Fortunately Master Carnell is not yet old to read this sort of Brass Eye-esque tabloid fear mongering. But when he grows up I'll be sure to tell him of the good old days when people approached strangers in the street, asked them questions and weren't reported to the police. Excuse me, I think there is a paediatricians car somewhere I need to daub with paint.
-
Lordy. The police? Informing the school? Really?! The undercurrent of hysteria here is worrying. Are men not allowed to conduct surveys in parks? Or ask children questions? What is he going to do with such worrying information as a name or which school they attend? It sounds like the sort of surveys you get on High Streets all the time. And cold callers for companies like YouGov or other polling people. What nefarious practises do you think this man with a clipboard is up to exactly? Does he get his sexual jollies through asking people multiple choice questions? String him up.
